  1. I bought it tonight and I'm disappointed. Robert Plant is too old, and Jimmy Page doesn't rock out as much as I'd like him to. The songs truly aren't the same without Bonzo and JPJ. I am the biggest Led Zeppelin fan I know, and I think that's what hurts me about it. I love to surround myself with their DVD that was out a couple years ago, but this one is just...not Led Zeppelin. Unledded was a good choice of title, I was truly let down.
  2. In O Brother Where Art Thou actually it was Tommy Johnson, yet *another* bluesman rumored to have sold his soul to the devil. I had heard about Page's purchase of Crowley's house. The Zoso symbol also apparantly has some occult behind it...
  3. "Led Zeppelin has more in common with Johnson than just music. Jimmy Page was well known to be very interested in the occult. Supposedly the group members (Excluding John Paul Jones) also sold their souls to Satan in exchange for stardom. Like Johnson, they too had a meteoric rise to fame." taken from www.deltahaze.com/johnson/legacy.html Having been a Zepp fan for most of my music-loving life, I can say that this is the first time I have ever heard of them selling their souls to the devil. Has anyone else ever heard this before? And why everyone except JPJ?
  4. Yeah, I know what they are... I want to know where they orignated. Thanks bluesboy for those links, they were helpful. Anyone have any other info on the subject?
  5. Something has been plaguing me as I descend deeper and deeper into the world of blues. I have been taking 12 bar blues and walking bass lines for granted, as I'm sure many of you have. I want to know who we can credit for these indespensible attributes to Blues. Who's idea was it to let his bass walk, and who's idea was it that blues was meant to have 12 bars? Please shed some light on this issue for me! Thanks.
  6. All Around the World - Red Hot Chili Peppers All Around the World - Oasis And I know there's plenty more- one of my friends actually made an "All Around the World" CD of just songs with that same title.
  7. I can think of some... The Beatles - Twist and Shout Barrett Strong - Money Contours - Do You Love Me Coasters - Yakety Yak
  8. This immediatly made me think of songs recorded around Vietnam as anti-war songs, like: Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son and other songs like that. I can't think of any others, I just woke up from a nap. A good site to point them towards would be our favorite site !
  9. Paul Van Dyk - Time Of Our Lives
  10. This song is number 100 on GuitarWorld's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time, I think that really says something for this song. It gets my vote as the greatest one hit wonder. PS: The Macerena spent a staggering *56* weeks on the US Billboard. So, if you go by just that, as VH1 did, it counts as the "greatest" with the definition of greatest being furthest reaching.
  11. If I'm not mistaken, we're at The Beatles? This should be easy... The Beatles invited Eric Clapton to work on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Since Eric Clapton is a bluesman, this really opens it up, he collaborates all the time.
  12. Hi everyone. I don't know if I've been around long enough, but this forum seems like a super-friendly place, so I shall introduce myself as well. My name is Ali, and I hail from Michigan State University. I'm 19 and I wish I were 54, according to my music tastes. I love Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, The Who, The Beatles, Queen, Steve Miller Band, Peter Frampton, The Rolling Stones...I could go on, but you get the picture. I'd actually like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for being so open and welcoming, I feel like I fit right in.
  13. Speaking from personal experience, there are quite a few different types of music/ bands that I have grown to love because of other's influences. When you think about it, you had to hear most music with someone else, be it your parents, your friends, or what have you. So that gets you started, and you go from there. As you go in your life, you soak up different influences all day long, whether you realize it or not. For example, if I see enough Misfits tshirts or bumper stickers or whatever, one day I will listen to my first Misfits song, just to quell the curiousity, right? Same goes with all sorts of music. When I was in middle school/ high school I had a strong hatred of Dave Matthews Band, because I didn't connect with the people that were devoted fans. When I started playing guitar in my senior year, I realized that Dave Matthews is in fact quite talented, so I can appreciate. Classical music grew on me with every humanities class I took, and I really dig it now (I'm listening to Bach as I type out this ramble). I've been going deeper and deeper into a love for blues ever since a girl burned a CD for me that had some Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughan on it. To sum up, I think that yes, people are predisposed to liking or disliking certain music, but it's up to other people to show them the way to it sometimes. I personally always appreciate a helping hand because music is my passion, and I want to hear as much of it as possible. I hope I've helped, and that I didn't ramble too much.
  14. Yes, you have not yet rid your computer of the spyware that Kazaa infected it with upon install. You can go spybot and download and run that. You should also go adaware, and install and run that. After you've done both those things, google for "Kerio Personal Firewall" and install and run that. PC's need a lot of...protection, as it were. Good luck keeping your computer clean.
  15. Hi guys, Thanks for all the input. I obtained VU's box set, Peel It Slowly and See, and I *really* dig. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to all of it yet, but it's amazing. It made me want to start on this project... What I'm doing is taking basically the most influential (IMO) bands of the sixties-seventies and making a timeline of albums they released. The Velvet Underground is amazing, and I can hear their influence in so many different bands.
  16. Twenty Six Cents - The Wilkensons I'll admit I googled for this one, I was hoping it'd be at 25 so I could mention 25 or 6 to 4. This game has gotten a lot more interesting now that we're at the higher numbers.
  17. Limewire is the best possible peer to peer downloading software available at this time. It does not contain any spyware or adware, like Kazaa, and you can play the files with iTunes or WMP or whatever you like, and burn them as you please. You said you downloaded Kazaa, you may want to run anti-spyware and anti-adware programs on your PC. Or you could just toss the PC in the trash and buy a Mac, like I did! Good luck.
  18. I agree, it's best to look at them as two different songs. If you're listening to the Unplugged album, and you're in the mood for it, the unplugged Layla fits in nicely and is a nice blues song.
  19. Just the Two of Us - Bill Withers & Grover Washington
  20. A couple questions... first and foremost, why doesn't Songfacts have, well, song facts about this song by The Velvet Underground? Another question, howcome I'd never heard The Velvet Underground before, since they're "the most influential band" ever? One last question, what are some more songs by them, and what's the deal. I really dig their sound and I'd like to know more about them, if anyone has any information. Thanks!
  21. Haha Awesome! I can have my very own (rented) Shaggin' Wagon to go see Dylan. Now if only I had rock-out friends...sadly, my friends are my age and they don't appreciate as much as I do. Who's coming with me?
  22. There is a slow version of Crossroads that Clapton plays with Buddy Guy, or with Bob Dylan. It's more bluesy, and stays truer to Robert Johnson. Anyway, no worries, because I think it's uncommon for an artist to release more than one Unplugged album.
  23. I'm also a newer member, but I feel like contributing... Led Zeppelin - Achilles' Last Stand If this does actually make it on the CD (which is now appearing to be a box set) sorry to take up so much room! ::
