  1. I bought Prarie Wind and it is quite excellent, I like all of Neil's stuff, from his grungy beginnings to the mellow folk of Harvest, but if you enjoyed harvest and harvest moon then you should like Prarie Wind.

    List 14

Hell yes!! Sonic Youth gets some props.
  3. The Graduate is a mostly rock score.
  4. 350? I fart in your general direction, 600 CDs and 150 copies of some good old vinyl.
  5. Oh silly Eagle Eye, I could probably school your ass in naming songs. I mean if you're going to go with a coldplay selection I woulda gone "Don't Panic", maybe even "Yellow". I could expland your musical horizons tho, I bet.
  6. The song 'High and Dry' off of the Bends is amazing
  7. The guitars are nothing? Good Gawd! A good guitarist can play his axe like an extension of his body, his soul. Excellent guitar work can stir emotions in people, there's this one song by Pavement called Fillmore Jive and there's this amazing guitar solo that can literally bring tears to my eyes... it's loud it's fast but emotional as hell. and Hendrix can do the exact same thing with his use of instrumentation
  8. I'm just gonna have to say Brian May as a shot in the dark
  9. Some people insist that I am. I see myself as more.... alternative? I don't know if that's the best way to describe it.
  10. I can't really explain why it is that I like the Killers, I suppose it's the majestic sound, it's not really something that I'd usually be into (I like feedback, lots and lots of feedback) so I'm by no means trying to force the Killers on anyone, it's just my own personal fave at the moment.
  11. Dude.... supertramp blows. But that is your opinion and I respect that, so no need to fight. I'd have to disagree with the 'no one even comes close' thing, 'cuz there is some stuff out there that is amazing, I am currently in love with the Killers and 'Mr. Brightside' is one of my fave songs right now, it's so majestic and flowing.
  12. Well lets guesstimate as to what else it could have meant instead of "Going to church before watching the Wall makes it cooler" hmmm how about "Smoking a pillow case of Maui Wowee makes the Wall cooler" or "Dropping some acid makes the wall cooler" of "Digging thru pastures of cow **** for mushrooms, and then ingesting said mushrooms makes the wall cooler" Yep, I definately meant going to church before watching the Wall makes it seem cooler, those other suggestions are far too outrageous.
  13. Yes, I do mean 'go to church', what else could it have meant.
  14. I like the movie (tho there are things that you can *ahem* 'do' that make the whole experience a little more enjoyable..... so I've heard) it's very distant, yet it has a purpose... I like that in a movie.
  15. I dunno the thing that really ticks me off, besides the fact that the gov. really didn't kick in a whole lot to help, is that the administration officials keep on saying "Stop playing the blame game" in reference to the various admin. officials, yet in basically the same sentence they'll accuse the state government of not doing anything. the buck stops here my ass.
  16. Yeah, I figured that was where you got it from after I posted. All I know is Sonic Youth rocks my socks tho, I dunno there's just something about that dirty New York sound.
  17. Sonic Youth started in '82, and DayDream Nation was released in 88. The Pixies recorded a bulk of their stuff in the late 80s as well.
  18. Whatever, feedback is amazing, go listen to Queen I guess.
  19. Did you listen to all of Teenage Riot? I'm gonna have to say no 'cuz it's about 7 and a half minutes long, and if you only listened to the first part then you totally missed out on the textured guitars and spiraling feedback that resonates in the mid section. I'm 17
  20. Yes I'm talking about the Eric Clapton song, Eric Clapton has played loads and loads of blues. And Cocaine was originally written by blues artist J.J. Cale
  21. Avant Garde is a rejection of the norm (that's the best way to put it) it exists in visual arts, music, fashion, and even every day conversation. It requires a person to use both their brain and their emotions to fully grasp it. It's really a school of thought I suppose, an approach to life.
  22. No, Cocaine is a blues song, Heroin is very.... detached and modern. The best is the last couple minutes (it's about 8 minutes) where they start using this massive amount of feedback over the vocals.
  23. Bleh, I'm tellin' you there are two songs that after you listen to them, your mind will be blown into space, Heroin by Velvet Underground and Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth, first off, those two songs will have you well on your way to appreciating a)good music and the avant-garde, and secondly it will show that even tho VU was from the 60s and perceived as 'old' by you, their recording techniques and sound still carries thru to today (Teenage Riot was recorded in '88, almost 20 years after Heroin)
