  1. I still come here just about every day. It was good back then, it is still good now. Been a member now for 18 years.
  2. Missing the early days of Songfacts and hoping all the crowd is ok in these weird, troubling times. I don't log *in* every day but I come here every day. Be well Songfactors.
  3. I don't know if you guys have the same thing we do, but a lot of those are the blue, CHEP pallets. They show up time to time at work, I grabbed some, took a couple different ones for the contrast, cut them apart and sanded them down with a belt sander. My wife Kelly picked out maybe 7 different stain colors, we stained them, she has a good eye for color, and handed them to me in the order she wanted them up in. The wall was painted flat black so any gaps in the wood wouldn't show the wall in the back, and I screwed them to the studs straight through the drywall. Those blue CHEP pallets are solid white oak, I mixed some soft yellow pine in as well.
  4. Brought a bunch home, sanded them down, stained them, screwed them to the wall. https://ibb.co/CtV8cxb https://ibb.co/c2hz8J1 Just old pallets from work.
  5. This place was *way* ahead of it's time. Songfacts was a kind of facebook before facebook was facebook, but for music freaks. Then a few things happened. We had a server change and the format of our beloved Songfacts boards changed. They weren't like what you see here. Then facebook came along, and with it a songfacts facebook thing. I think the posts became fewer and farther in between. I still come here, I don't always "officially" sign in, but I am usually here once a day. There was a tight vibe for quite some time. A tribal vibe, kind of a family type deal.
  6. https://ibb.co/hDBcznR I became a Bubba in the last year. They tell me I'm kind of a big deal.........
  7. Still here. 16 years and running. Just had my anniversary 2 nights ago, Dec. 31/02. Still my favorite website ever. This place was *so* ahead of it's time....
  8. Check these guys out. This guy sounds like vintage Plant. 17 years old from Frankenmueth, Michigan. I do believe these guys will be going places..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJg4OJxp-co
  9. I'm still here. Still come on and browse all the time. And every time I come back, it still feels like home to me. I did the mental math, 16+ years of Songfacts for me. Some marriages don't last that long....
  10. This one hurt plenty, age be damned. Chuck was my first love, my first idol. My Dad bought me my first record, Chuck's "Reelin' 'n Rockin". I was 5 years old. I heard the opening riff of "Johnny B. Goode" and it was all over for me. I felt like I had been plugged in. My parents record collection included Harry Belafonte, and growing up around the Windsor Detroit area, the Big 8, CKLW played the greatest music. At 4 to 5 years old, I knew a couple things. Somehow I knew Otis Redding and Booker T were connected (same band), and Black people made the music I liked. I grew up in the *whitest* Canadian suburb imaginable. I didn't know any black people outside of what I saw on record albums or what I heard on the radio. And Chuck Berry was a *GOD* to me. In school, Kindergarden to grade 1 and 2, the other kids were pretty fast and loose with the "N-word". And it always conflicted me. I wanted to fit in, but the comments were that "they" like fried chicken. It was my favorite meal. "They" liked watermelon. Me too. And I couldn't understand (I was 5, think like a 5 year old) "don't these guys get it? That music is...... I dunno. The best music I've ever heard". Still, to this day. Like Seger says, "All Chuck's children are out there, playin' his licks". I credit my parents for making me who I am. And Chuck Berry. Thanks for the music Chuck. I will love you forever.
  11. 41 Years ago tonight, at 7:10 PM. A prayer for the men who perished. Offer a prayer to all men and women killed doing their jobs....
  12. A warm Sunday night, and a completely awesome show. One of my co-worker's sister is the vice president of the Caesars Casino here, we had front-row centre stage. Off the hook!
  13. Jimmy Buffett last Saturday night at Detroit's DTE Music Theatre. It's officially summer. A sea of Hawaiian shirts, cheeseburgers, shark fins, salt shakers, pirates, margarita glass sunglasses, 80-year old women in thong bikinis, fruitcakes, etc. What a complete, total blast. Fins UP!
  14. 99.99999999% sure the phrase "Brain Salad Surgery" does NOT refer to brain surgery. Strike that. I KNOW that's not what it means. I'm 100% sure I DO know what it means. And knowing RonJon , HE knows what it means,

    Prince Passes Away

Heavy on the heart. I'm 52 now. I was 22 in August of 1986 when Kelly and I moved in together. A small 1 bedroom apartment in a 3 story apartment building. Landlord came down and asked us to turn down the stereo, and it was Prince, "I Would Die 4 U". This one hurts so damn much.
  16. 2016. The worst year ever in music. Ever. The Purple One gone. Died at his home in Minnesota. I'm rattled to the foundations.
  17. Since his death in July of 1971, the world has elevated Jim Morrison to a Godlike status. The man is a legend, every lyric parsed, every performance gone over ten thousand times. We, being people, there are certain elements of life that are common to us all. Both the performer and fan. Like driving in cars and listening to music. I was out on the road last week, singing along with The Doors "Roadhouse Blues". Just before the solo, Morrison yells "Do it, Robbie, do it!"..... I am sure Robbie Krieger has been in his car just driving somewhere and this has happened. If not his car, anywhere, and unexpectedly the song comes on. How cool would that be to say to anyone who cared to listen, "Hey... That's Jim Morrison.... Talking to ME!".... I can only imagine the sense of satisfaction that must bring, the nostalgia of going back to that day in the studio and recording the song, the memories that must flood back.,
  18. This is the end of my love affair with my beloved band. I've been a fan since 1977. Purchased everything they recorded, cheerfully bought the DVD'S, reveled at the quality of the Blu-Rays, and now I am heartbroken. Axl Rose. I guess I will keep my memories, and say thanks for all the great music. Damn....
  19. "Layin' Up With Linda" -Originally by gg allin later covered by the Lemonheads. Pretty much anything by gg allin was off-the-charts nuts, and if you've never heard of him, well, a Google Image search should show you the direction he went. A friend of mine, Gil, took me to see him back in the late '80's. When the feces started flying I heartily laughed, and left. Truth be told, he was light years better than a Bieber, Swift, Gaga, or the like.
  20. Bob Seger In Your Time In your time The innocence will fall away In your time The mission bells will toll All along The corridors and river beds There'll be sign In your time Towering waves Will crash across your southern capes Massive storms Will reach your eastern shores Fields of green Will tumble through your summer days By design In your time Feel the wind And set yourself the bolder course Keep your heart As open as a shrine You'll sail the perfect line And after all The dead ends and the lessons learned After all The stars have turned to stone There'll be peace Across the great unbroken void All benign In your time You'll be fine In your time
  21. Last Friday night, my wife's company had an outing at a local pub/restaurant style establishment. One of the ladies had brought a family member, a fellow about my age (give or take 5:7 years). The guy was from Romania, didn't speak a *word* of English. He sat in our group and obviously, he was uncomfortable. She had done some translating, here and there, sporadic, polite questions, weather related stuff, etc. But he was clearly not into the evening. I had an inspiration, and told the lady to translate to him, that he and I did speak a language we could communicate in (I was taking a chance of this flopping miserably but hey, treat others as you would be treated and all, I was trying to make the guys evening better and going for inclusion). She looked at me and said, ok, then told him that he and I spoke the same language. He looked at me a bit puzzled, I cracked a grin popped up the rocker 'devil horn' salute, and said loudly, "FU**ING..... AC/DC!!!!!" You could have seen his grin from the moon. I had a blast with him. He knew all the lyrics to Highway To Hell, The Jack, Hells Bells, TNT, that sort of thing. Then it was "EAGLES!", on and on. We kept yelling "AC/DC" gleefully at each other. When we parted ways at the end of the night he had his cousin translate that he had enjoyed himself "big time" and that should I ever find myself in Romania, I needn't look for accommodation. He had friends he wanted me to meet. It struck me on the way home, politicians divide, they would have us hate one another, and music unites.
  22. Blues Brothers, Hunt For Red October, the Fugitive and Silence Of the Lambs not on the list at all?
  23. I was at work yesterday, and I had my iPod softly playing the Eagles playlist I had made when I drove my motorcycle to Winslow. It hit me a t a funny moment, and a tear kind of welled up. One of the girls that works in my office asked what was wrong and I mentioned the passing of Frey and she jokingly rebuked me saying it was the death of someone I didn't even know. There are people who go through this life not affected by music. Their lives aren't colored by it. That's not a shot or anything, just a statement of fact. It just hit me that... that's it. No more Eagles. And the tear because of that. The amazing (and that is an overused word but in the following context, accurate) thing is that this music, 100 years from now, still going to be good music. Glenn gone, we're left with the likes of West, Bieber, Cyrus. 100 years from now I am not so sure their music will endure. We people that come to this website hold the musicians who have been the backdrop of our life close to us. I pull Seger closer to me and lose myself while I walk at night in the music of Bob, The Eagles, James Taylor, Carol King, JD Souther, Jackson Brown, Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy.....
  24. This one hurts. A lot. I feel like I've lost a family member.
  25. Cruise Ship Stairway To Heaven So when these guys gleefully introduced themselves in a thick Philippian accent as 5 guys from Manila, I started to snicker when they launched into Zeppelin. This will be too funny. Turns out I was wrong. They weren't bad at all.
