Earth-Angel
Hard-fi homepage Emerging late last year, Hard-fi have gone from strength to strength. Hailing from Staines, England, Richard Archer (vocals, guitar), Steve Kemp (drums), Ross Phillips (guitar, backing vocals) and Kai Stephens (bass, backing vocals) have broken out of the mould of burberry and Ali G. Hard-Fi are the product of their suburban West London environment; the sound of twenty-something gun-slingers on the minimum wage. It's the sound of a band weaned on the heady concrete glamour of The Stones, Dexys, Curtis Mayfield, and Happy Mondays. In love and in debt - the raw materials required to soundtrack a life of box-fresh Adidas, Berwick Street vinyl, and the black economy. Hard-Fi's debut album Stars of CCTV was initially recorded as a six track mini album in a disused mini cab office; it was then mixed in a variety of unusual acoustic enviroments - in bedrooms, in pubs, and in their producer's BMW. The band were then signed to the Atlantic Records label, who gave them the chance to re-record the album, the band went back to the cab office, to maintain their unique sound. Hard-Fi supported Green Day on their tour of the USA, and at their two massive gigs at Milton Keynes Bowl, England where they entertained, impressed and completely rocked the crowd. In 2005 Hard-Fi were nominated for the Mercury music prize amongst stiff competition from Bloc Party, Kaizer Chiefs, Polar Bear and eventual winners, Anthony & the Johnsons. Hard-fi's newest single, Living for the weekend, is receiving a lot of well-earned airplay. See them in a city near you, or check out their album on Amazon. Sourced from myself, Wikipedia and contactmusic.com "Hard to beat" is brilliant as is "Living for the weekend" and "Cash Machine" - have a listen out for these guys!
