Doors war for right to use name

Doors Lose Right Over Name

Two surviving members of 1960s rock act The Doors have been forbidden from using the legendary band's name.

Former Doors drummer John Densmore teamed up with late frontman Jim Morrison's family Sunday to file suit against keyboard player Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger - who have been touring with former The Cult singer Ian Astbury as The Doors of the 21st Century since 2002.

The Los Angeles court order also demands the pair share any profits from their act with the original line-up.

Under an agreement struck in 1971, following Morrison's fatal heart attack, all three surviving members must agree on usage of the Doors name and logo.

Densmore says, "I'm just so happy that the legacy of the true Doors, and Jim Morrison in particular, has been preserved by this decision."

Densmore had been invited to reunite with the rockers but refused as his ears are badly damaged after years of playing at high decibel rock gigs.
