Chris Akanora Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) In a discussion on youtube about the late Technicolor Web of Sound, one contributor mentioned the "new 'old' songs"/"new classic rock" movement. I knew there had to be one. Point me in the right direction, I can't find a damn thing on Goggle. Edited May 26, 2013 by Guest
Carl Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 I'm guessing this would be something of the White Stripes/Black Keys variety, where they go with a retro sound, often using retro equipment. Didn't know there was a name for it.
JumboXL Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Seems like a sort of nostalgia to the years when many revolutionary albums came out and lots of experiments were tried out. A friend told me his son had remarked: " Wish I was born 40 years earlier, when all that thrilling music was made...", referring to the days when every album of Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Yes, Bowie, Emerson Lake & Palmer and a few more brought new developments in Rock Music. Check out Jacco Gardner, for example, a much praised 25 year old artist with his early-Pink Floyd-Sid Barret sound: an example of "new old music?
TheLizard Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Didn't know there was a name for it. There isn't. If you're looking for one term to define every new band that sounds vaguely "retro", you're not going to find it.
