  1. I'm going to go mellow this time around. Diamond Girl - Seals & Crofts. I really love the music of this folk/pop duo. After Simon & Garfunkel they're my favourite duo. Photographs & Memories - Jim Croce. Although he wrote so many lovely tunes, I think this is my favourite.
  2. Rap is not music. It has no melody and no vocals, therefore, it is not music anymore than a poetry recital is. Rap is (for the most part), bad poetry with a little rhythm thrown in for good measure. Obviously, many people like it and that's great. Whatever floats your boat. I just get really annoyed when people refer to Rap as music.
  3. Another great list!! Although I didn't vote for I'd Love To Change The World, I'm gratified to see that there are some Ten Years After fans out there. Alvin Lee is one of my favourite artists and I believe one of the greatest rock guitarists. Although I like Ten Years After, I much prefer Lee's solo work. I was also pleased to see a Gordon Lightfoot tune make the top 10 list. There are several more of his songs that I plan to nominate in the future. Although I like Heart, I've never much cared for Crazy On You. It's probably because it's one of the few tunes by the group that is played on our local classic rock radio station. I've just heard it a few too many times. I'll have to try and listen to the song by Green Day. I'm not very familiar with the group.
  4. Who'll Stop The Rain which I'm listening to at this very moment. I may have to nominate it at some point. Darryl, I agree with you wholeheartedly about C.C.R. I can't think of one song of theirs that I don't like. I think John Fogerty is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of the rock era. I really look forward to seeing the final result of this round of voting. Thanks again for all your hard work and your brilliant idea. Cheers!!
  5. This was definitely the most difficult selection for me. It would have been easier had it been a Top 15 instead. Oh well, here goes: 1.Green River - C.C.R. 2. Have You Ever Seen The Rain? - C.C.R. 3. Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John 4. The Chain - Fleetwood Mac 5. Sloop John B - The Beach Boys 6. Heatwave - Linda Rondstadt 7. I'd Love You To Want Me - Lobo 8. If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot 9. Dance With Me - Orleans 10. Summer In The City - The Lovin' Spoonful I chose C.C.R. songs as my number 1 and 2 selections, but then they are 2 of my 3 favourite songs by the band. I'm pleased to see that a Linda Rondstadt song was nominated this time. I believe she is a very underrated artist. :guitar: :guitar:
  6. 1. Green River - Creedence Clearwater Revival 2. Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John These are my nominations for the next top 10.
  7. 1. Heart Of Gold - As Laurie said, Mr. Neil Young 2. Mrs. Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel 3. Brother Louie - Stories 4. God Only Knows - The Beach Boys 5. Wild Horses - The Rolling Stones 6. Levon - Elton John 7. 25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago 8. Breakdown - Tom Petty 9. Indian Reservation - Paul Revere et al. 10. Daydream - The Lovin' Spoonful
  8. When Larry Gowan released the single "A Criminal Mind", I thought it was a song by Styx because the vocalist sounded so much like Dennis DeYoung. Ironically, in 1999, Gowan joined Styx as the group's lead vocalist and keyboard player.
  9. An alliance sounds like a great idea Shawna! I think, however, that we should try to persuade Uncle Joe to join our little tribe since he seems to have the magic touch. Here are my nominations for the next go round: 1. Heart Of Gold - Neil Young 2. Brother Louie - Stories
  10. Don't feel bad, Shawnna. None of my nominations has made the top 10 either. Considering how many great songs have been submitted, I'm not surprised that it is quite difficult for nominated songs to make the final cut. We'll just have to keep plugging away. Sooner or later, one of our songs will make it. :guitar:
  11. 1. One Of These Nights 2. In My Life 3. Kodachrome 4. Hello It's Me 5. Dreams 6. Sister Golden Hair 7. Turn The Page 8. Statesboro Blues 9. Fat Bottom Girls 10. Build Me Up Buttercup
  12. Kodachrome - Paul Simon One Of These Nights - The Eagles Happy Easter, everyone!
  13. 1. Rikki Don't Lose That Number - Steely Dan 2. Cherry Bomb - John Mellencamp 3. Peaceful Easy Feeling - The Eagles 4. Free Ride - The Edgar Winter Group 5. Proud Mary - C.C.R. 6. Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) - Marvin Gaye 7. Wouldn't It Be Nice - The Beach Boys 8. Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf 9. Drift Away - Dobie Gray 10. Bad Company - Bad Company This was the hardest selection yet! What a great selection of tunes!!! :guitar:
  14. From left to right: Kim Berly, Rich Dodson and Ronnie King of the Stampeders. Wow, Laurie! I didn't think anyone outside of Canada had ever heard of The Stampeders. They had several hits in Canada (Wild Eyes, Then Came The Whiteman, Clap For The Wolfman, Oh My Lady, Carry Me and Sweet City Woman), but I wasn't aware that any of their songs had cracked the charts in the U.S. They were the headliners at the first rock concert I ever attended. My, how time flies.
  15. Here are my nominations for Top 10 #4: Mercy Mercy Me - Marvin Gaye Free Ride - The Edgar Winter Group
  16. This is SOOOOO exciting! I can hardly wait until top ten #4 commences. Here is my top ten list for this go round: Do You Believe In Magic Crimson & Clover Groovin' Let It Ride Monday, Monday Africa Whipping Post Money For Nothing My Old School Crumblin' Down
  17. Whew, I still have time to get in my nominations for week #3. One from the 60's: Do You Believe In Magic - The Lovin' Spoonful One from the 70's: Let It Ride - B.T.O.
  18. You might like some of these: Foghat Budgie (a Welsh power trio) Rory Gallagher (particularly the albums Photo Finish and Top Priority which are more blues/rock than straight blues). The Allman Brothers Band - very bluesy southern rock Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchett - southern rock with an edge. Bachman Turner Overdrive (particularly the album Not Fragile) Welcome to Songfacts!!
  19. Thanks for all the great information about the Stooges, Ken. I've been away on a holiday and I haven't visited Songfacts for over a month. I'm a huge fan of the Three Stooges. My favourite Stooge is Shemp, although I like all of them. My favourite shorts (at least of those I can remember) are Sing A Song Of Six Pants (in which Shemp has a hilarious run-in with an ironing board) and Rockin' Thru The Rockies in which the Stooges are hired as bodyguards by Nell's Belles and must get the women to their show in San Francisco safely and on time. Sadly, the Stooges with Joe Besser and Curly Joe DeRita were a pale imitation of the group in its heyday during the 1930's and 40's. I think the thing that always amazed me the most about the Stooges was their ability to do such demanding physical comedy despite their less than athletic physiques. Curly, in particular, was remarkably agile for such a portly guy. I have about 25 of the classic Stooges shorts on DVD but I am always looking to acquire more. If you know where I can find Stooges shorts on DVD or VHS, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Once again, thanks for the fascinating info. about the Stooges.
  20. Sorry, Laurie. You're absolutely right. I haven't been on Songfacts for quite some time and I'm afraid I did not read enough of the thread before posting. OOPS!! So let's try it again!! Night Moves - Bob Seger Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones Jessica - The Allman Brothers Band Rock & Roll - Led Zeppelin I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash Revolution - The Beatles Would I Lie To You - The Eurythmics Little Willy - The Sweet Cecilia - Simon & Garfunkel You Send Me - Sam Cooke
  21. Heart Of Gold - Neil Young Long Train Running - The Doobie Brothers Do It Again - Steely Dan Green River - C.C.R. Kodachrome - Paul Simon Free Ride - The Edgar Winter Group Brother Louie - Stories Refugee - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Woodstock - Matthews Southern Comfort Fireball - Deep Purple
