  1. Go to the Beastie Boys. Then, rent yourself a van and follow the Dylan tour to the next city. Classy.
  2. EVERY song is overplayed at some time or another. It's the thing about top-40 radio: they play songs so regularly you can set your watch to them. No joke - the radio station we used to play at work you could tell the time by the song they had on. Right now, the most overplayed song has got to be "Writing's On The Wall" by the Tea Party. Awesome song, but... that and "Breaking the Habit" by Linkin Park.
  3. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say you're hearing "The Scientist" by Coldplay. It runs the same 4 chords through the first half of the song, then breaks out some drums and a couple other instruments about halfway through... and I know it has an instrumental bit at around the halfway point. If you hear it again, listen for "Don't tell me you love..." and "Oh take me back to the start".
  4. Nirvana was hardly the first grunge band, as I think we've established. They were, however, the first to get any major coverage, and they were certainly the first "pop" grunge band. They revolutionized music: unless you think enthralling an entire generation isn't revolutionary. They took Michael Jackson out of the number one spot on the charts. Whether or not you even LIKE Nirvana, that says something about their music. They were revolutionary because they weren't like the rest of the popular bands back then. (BTW, someone mentioned Pearl Jam... Ten did outsell Nevermind in the end, and they were more popular than Nirvana around the time of Kurt's death).
