  2. Fun Boy Three - The Lunatics (have taken over the asylum) The '80s ....
  3. I went to buy it yesterday, but where I'm living now there's not a record/CD store within an hour drive. I'm looking forward to getting it this weekend, though.
  4. I reserve using the word "genius" to describe only a select few musicians of the last half-century. Syd was one of them. It takes a true genius to create such unique and original music in which naming the influences is nearly impossible, and the influenced uncalculable. For as short of a time he shared with us his artistic talent, it is amazing to see (and hear) how he continues to inspire 40 years later. You're one of my biggest musical influences, Syd Barrett, and will always be one of my favorite musicians.
  5. Thanks Tenacious_Peaches! I bet they add "Monkey Man" to their setlist after this.
  6. Whether or not you consider rap to be "music," it is without a doubt an artistic expression, and a culturally original one at that. Growing up in the inner city streets of these predominantly black communities, it is/was one of the only forms of artistic expression these talented individuals knew/know. You can't blame them for only doing what they know, can you? When you are raised in a violent and sexist environment, then naturally some of that is reflected in your lyrics. How would these aspiring artists afford (or access) traditional musical instruments? How could they get music lessons? The best most of them could do is sample other music to freestyle over, or have others "beatbox" for them. What they created was something that they could call their own - something not yet tainted by white corporate America. Disco was a fad. Everyone knew that. Rap's roots lie much deeper. It's not going anywhere. Some great rap/hip-hop lyricists/emcees
  7. If Keith Richards falls out of a tree and nobody is there to hear it, does it make sound? Keith Richards Hospitalized in New Zealand
  8. Did you know the Farrelly brothers (Dumb & Dumber, Kingpin, There's Something About Mary) are planning on coming out with a Three Stooges movie next year?
  9. Ever have Three Stooges Beer? I haven't seen it for a while, so I'm not sure whether they make it anymore. My favorite Stooge is Larry. He didn't try to be the center of attention, nor did he deliever very funny lines, but his facial expressions were priceless.
  10. I didn't grow up with this generation but still know a lot. You should check out: Marquee Moon - Television In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers Everything the Velvet Underground has released Vagabonds of the Western World - Thin Lizzy Jailbreak - Thin Lizzy Everything Traffic has released Brain Salad Surgery - Emerson, Lake & Palmer Fleetwood Mac's first 4 albums (with Peter Green) Moby Grape - Moby Grape I hope this is helpful.
  11. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn The fact that I can remember so vividly the first time I heard it pushes it above the rest.
  12. Hold On, I'm Coming - Sam and Dave
  13. Haha, I did that. The Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD. Didn't exactly buy it for that reason, but have played at as background music/video at parties.
  14. Anytime I hear a Smiths song, I feel like I should lock myself in my room and cry. Johnny Marr was decent guitarist when it came to that ringing guitar sound. There were better. Morrissey is just full of himself. We get it already, you're depressed. I don't really see how they can be underrated considering critics give them nothing but praise, yet few people of younger generations actually want to listen to them these days. Furthermore, their music is not aging very well. I don't deny they've had many followers. I like those bands you listed, yet I'm sure I'd like their music even more had it not been heavily influenced by the Smiths.
  15. The Smiths. Not a good contribution to music.
  16. "Ben" is the most beautiful song about a killer rat I've ever heard.
  17. Brilliant! The Official Wolfmother Band Site Hailing originally from Sydney, Ausatralia, Wolfmother's debut is a psychedelic brand of proto-heavy metal that sounds not too far off from Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer, or Kyuss. Wolfmother's myspace Check out the video for Mind's Eye! Guaranteed to kick your ass!
  18. Pretty cool band. They're worth checking out. "Cash Cow" and "It's a Hit" are my favorites from the CD right now.
  19. Huey Lewis and the News. Same songs, different lyrics.
  20. Regarding Jacko ... I'm not going to pretend like I care more about those kids than their parents do. You don't find it fishy that they are willing to let their child sleepover at a stranger's home, who happens to be a multi-millionare and alledged child molester, unchaperoned? The fact is that Michael Jackson is a prime target for scandals, and I am just as skeptical - even cynical - of the parents' and media's intentions. Taking that into consideration, if you couldn't find the underlying humor in my post, then to each his own ... BTW, I wasn't following his trial on a day-to-day basis, because like most people I wasn't really concerned about it. In addition, I certainly do not take everything the story-hungry media tells me about a celebrity at face value.
  21. Eeesh, what's with the emotional outburst from you two!? First of all it's a joke. Do you get this disgusted every time Letterman or Leno makes a joke about Jacko's affiliation with little boys?? Second of all he was found not guilty. Finally, if you want to get mad at someone then I suggest directing that anger towards those kids' senseless, greedy parents. The point of my OP was that Michael Jackson is the greatest entertainer who ever lived - no one ever come close - and nothing in his personal life, no matter how horrible, will ever change that.
  22. I don't really care if Michael Jackson freaked off with little boys or not. Doesn't bother me one bit. All I know is that he is the single greatest entertainer from the last century, bar none. I say give him a bunch of kids and let him dance.
  23. You haven't heard "strange" until you've heard Mayo Thompson and the Red Krayola. If you ever find their two most accessible albums, The Parable of Arable Land (1967) and God Bless the Red Krayola & All Who Sail With It (1968), don't pass up the chance to hear to most bizarre psychedelic freakouts ever recorded.
