Ken
A "Harvest Moon" is the full moon closest to the fall equinox. The Harvest Moon was named because it rises within a half-hour of when the sun sets. Long ago, when farmers didn't have the machinery available that they do today, it was essential that they work by the light of the moon to bring in the harvest. This moon is the fullest moon of the year. When viewed, it looks quite large and shines like a diamond throughout the entire night. No other lunar event is as awesome as the Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon usually appears in the month of September. However, on occasion, it appears as a full moon early in October. Where I live, Southwestern Ontario, nothing much is planted before May 24th. The danger of frost is very real until after that time. The Harvest Moon, when it falls in September, is also known as the “Fruit Moon.†When it occurs in October, it's also known as the “Hunter’s Moon.†Known as such because October is the month when large game, such as deer and moose are hunted. Ken. Neil Young Harvest Moon Come a little bit closer Hear what I have to say Just like children sleepin’ We could dream this night away. But there’s a full moon risin’ Let’s go dancin’ in the light We know where the music’s playin’ Let’s go out and feel the night. Because I’m still in love with you I want to see you dance again Because I’m still in love with you On this harvest moon. When we were strangers I watched you from afar When we were lovers I loved you with all my heart. But now it’s gettin’ late And the moon is climbin’ high I want to celebrate See it shinin’ in your eye. Because I’m still in love with you I want to see you dance again Because I’m still in love with you On this harvest moon
