Carl
Dan had an enlightening talk with Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, who has recently broadened his horizons and started writing for the Huffington Post. Jon has a real talent for words and phrases, which he showed in this interview. Some lyricists tank in interviews because they are used to revising their thoughts, but Jon crushed it. Note how Dan stumps him when he asks about specific inspiration for the songs on his latest album - I love that because you know he was digging into his cortex to pull those memories. Switchfoot has broken away from the major label that signed them in 2003, which they went secular and had their most commercial success. Their new album, Vice Verses, is their second on their own label, which means the performance anxiety is gone. Jon definitely sounds liberated, although, as he told Dan, he still can't bring himself to write a bouncy little song: Jon Foreman interview
