Since we only had 5 of us vote out of 7 nominators in the last game, I figured I'd let some time pass before starting the next one.

I'll start it today and hopefully we'll get some more participation this time.

There's a song that I have been meaning to ask about for ages now, I know hardly anything about it -

    - from the 90's/00's (i think)

    - lyrics include 'all that glitters is gold'

I know it isn't the following - Led Zep, Smash Mouth, Prince, or Death In Vegas

Please make ANY suggestions and I will listen to each one and let you know the outcome!

I thought it was stairway to heaven ; those words sound familiar

It appears that Leonard Cohen has passed away. One of the truly great songwriters of his time, he made the kind of music that merits discussion, which made him a Songfacts favorite. His most famous song, by far, is "Hallelujah," which has consistently been one of the most-discussed and analyzed.

Details aren't out yet, but he just released and album called You Want It Darker. It's hard to tell if the album is informed by his parting, as he's always written about mortality and religion.

    Hi all -

Am not sure how to describe it - I’m chasing a song that came out somewhere 2000-2006. It was sung by a young girl, and it was a gray song - and it was known because the girl who sang it sounded identical to Hanson. I was (am) a huge Hanson fan (please don’t kick me out lol!) but I suddenly remembered this song tonight and it’s now driving me crazy trying to remember it or find it! I just remember people saying to me “oh I actually LIKE Hanson’s new song!” And it wasn’t Hanson, but a young girl. I think it had the word “Blue” in either the song title or her name. She also wasn’t in a band, just by herself and she was playing a piano I think?

Hope you know who I’m talking about / what song that was!

Folks in search of Music on the Interweb don't have many choices these days, between "Buy 'N Large" (Apple) or "We Think You Like This?" (Spotify). For really obscure music, I sometimes drop by CD Baby, if a "Toy Cows in Africa"-like track catches my eye/ear on YouTube.

"It makes no sense and all your talk and supermen just take away the time"

"And love, love, love, you can't give it away"

Those are just several of the lines, but he's obviously in love with someone; I just can't figure out if shes leaving him, they are just now getting together, or if it's something he's felt for a while and is just now saying it. Sorry, now I'm confused. ::

Here's the place to give us your suggestions for topics and themes, as well as other suggestions, so they don't get lost in the shuffle. :)

With our last two lists, Songfactors' Choice has really gained popularity. So far we've done:

    • Best Soundtracks
    • Christmas Wish List
    • Holiday Special
    • The Very Best of 2007
    • Women Gone Wild!
    • Distinctive Debuts

We need ideas for universal themes, to encourage the great participation we've been getting. Obviously, the more popular the topic, the more nominations (such as the last two lists) we get, which is the whole point.

Which leads to the suggestion of lists of 10, rather than 5. It's great idea... as long as we have the participation to support it. So we have suggestion #1, which is under serious advisement. :)

    Give us whatcha got! ;)

Technically that's correct Viaene, and we do try not to tread on territory covered by the other (in either forum), but we are also trying to expand SFC a bit, so it isn't just album releated. Ummm, (trying to explain) for SFC, think maybe, subject related. If it occaisionally overlaps into songs, no big deal, and vice versa with the Specials that Radhi runs. Remember the "best all time albums" we did as a Special a while back? For SFC the topics can be much broader, and include albums, "best use of music for..." and even overlap into DVD's etc.

I'm liking the ideas put forth so far! I have a couple to throw out as well:

    1. Collaberations

    2. Concert DVD's/films (with or without albums attached)

When I prepare for an interview, at some point the essence of the subject becomes clear, and I know what I want to ask. It took me a few days to get there with Adam Duritz.

Most of us have some overarching theme that comes through in our worldview, and songwriters often express that in their songs. For much of Adam's career, this was the burden of fame, as Counting Crows released one of the best-selling debut albums of all-time, and in a short period of time, Adam's intimate moments became public - not just in his terrestrial life, but also in his songs.

But that was a long time ago.

Now that the adulation has subsided, Adam has become more guarded in his creative output, which means he won't just pour his heart out in a song and foist it on the public. The last Counting Crows album was all cover songs, which spared him this burden.

This all stems from Adam's revelation that his songs are all about him. He doesn't enter the mind of someone else, and he doesn't write on spec (even that Shrek song delved into his psyche).

When I spoke with Adam yesterday, I was happy to hear him expound on upcoming projects with a newfound passion. With that out of the way, we explored songwriting technique, where he explained that it's the rich, authentic details that matter. Adam mentions real and specific people and places in his songs (Anna, the New Amsterdam), which is what paints their vibrant colors. And yes, Springsteen came up in this conversation.

I'll post the link once we put this together, but wanted to share some of these thoughts while they were still fresh.

As an aside, if you were to put boy parts together to create the perfect specimen that would attract beautiful actresses, you would end up with the 1994-1996 version of Adam. His combination of mystery and talent landed him two Friends stars when the show was the hottest thing on TV, plus Mary Louise Parker, Samantha Mathis, and a few others he remains coy about.

I remember Christina Aguilera's "I turn to you" was made into a dance version. Could this perhaps be the right song?

    "I Turn To You"

When I'm lost in the rain,

In your eyes I know I'll find the light

    To light my way.

    And when I'm scared,

    And losing ground,

When my world is going crazy,

You can turn it all around.

And when I'm down you're there

    - pushing me to the top.

    You're always there,

    giving me all you've got.

For a shield from the storm,

For a friend, for a love

to keep me safe and warm

    I turn to you.

For the strength to be strong,

For the will to carry on

    For everything you do,

    for everything that's true

    I turn to you.

When I lose the will to win,

I just reach for you and

I can reach the sky again.

    I can do anything

'Cause your love is so amazing,

    'Cause your love inspires me.

And when I need a friend,

    You're always on my side

    Giving me faith

    taking me through the night

For a shield from the storm,

For a friend, for a love

to keep me safe and warm

    I turn to you.

For the strength to be strong,

For the will to carry on

    For everything you do,

    for everything that's true

    I turn to you.

For the arms to be my shelter

    through all the rain,

For truth that will never change,

    For someone to lean on,

For a heart I can rely on through anything,

For that one who I can run to...

For a shield from the storm,

For a friend, for a love

to keep me safe and warm

    I turn to you

For the strength to be strong,

For the will to carry on

    For everything you do,

    for everything that's true

    I turn to you.

For a shield from the storm,

For a friend, for a love

    I turn to you.

For the strength to be strong,

For the will to carry on

    For everything you do,

When I can't sleep through the lonely night

    I turn to you

Like a flower leaning toward the sun

    I turn to you

    Cause your the only one

    Who can turn me around

    When I'm upside down

    I turn to you

Wwhen my insides are racked with anxiety

You have the touch that will quiet me

You lift my spirit, you melt the ice

When I need inspiration when I need advice

    I turn to you

Like a flower leaning toward the sun

    I turn to you

    Cause your the only one

    Who can turn me around

    When I am upside down

    I turn to you

    Where would I be

    What would I do

If you never helped me through

I hope some day if you've lost your way

You can turn to me, like I turn to you

    I turn to you

Like a flower leaning toward the sun

    I turn to you

    Cause your the only one

    Who can turn me around

    When I'm upside down

    I turn to you

    I turn to you

When fear tells me to turn around

    I turn to you

    Cause your the only one

    Who can turn me around

    When I'm upside down

    I turn to you

    I turn to you

    I turn to you

    you...

    you..

    you.

Perhaps it was Another night - The real McCoy?

    Chorus:

Another night, another dream, but always you,

it's like a vision of love that seems to be true,

Another night another dream, but always you,

in the night I dream of love so true.

Just another night, another vision of love,

you feel joy, you feel pain, cuz nothing will be the same.

Just another night, is all that it takes,

to understand, the difference between lovers and fakes,

so baby, I talk talk, I talk to you,

in the night in your dream, of love so true.

I talk talk, I talk to you,

in the night in your dream, of love so true.

In the night, in my dreams,

I'm in love with you, cuz you talk to me like lovers do,

I feel joy I feel pain, cuz it's still the same,

when the night is gone I'll be alone.

    Chorus

Just another night, another dream, another vision,

    of love, with me,

I'm here to set you free I am your lover, your brother,

hey sister let me cover, your body with my love is with my lovin' just another,

vision of love, that seems to be true, all we do all the things that only lovers do,

vision of love, that seems to be true, all we do all the things that only lovers do.

In the night in my dreams I'm in love with you,

cuz you talk to me like lovers do, I feel joy I feel pain,

cuz it's still the same, when the night is gone I'll be alone.

    Chorus

I talk talk, I talk to you in the night,

in your dream, of love so true.

I talk talk, I talk to you, in the night, in your dream, of love so true.

In the night, in my dreams I'm in love with you,

cuz you talk to me like lovers do, I feel joy I feel pain

cuz it's still the same, when the night is gone I'll be alone.

I miss the good old times when Songfacts was the current Facebook...   :)

Hope you all are doing well.

And maybe one day Facebook will be a bore and we'll come back to our first fave site...   <3

That's a great idea Edna; I checked out of Facebook 18months ago and I don't miss it at all, I'm glad I discovered this site because its quite Interesting without the b*******ss of Facebook.  It's nice to make new friends and find out other people's interests and ideas
