  1. Can You Give It All To Me - Myles And Lenny This is an obscure Canadian band and I don't know if this 1974 hit ever made the charts in the United States. It was unusual in that it featured the violin as a solo instrument and not as part of a backing orchestra.
  2. Awesome selections, Shawna!! You'll definitely get my votes for these ones. A belated welcome back!! Your sense of humour and excellent taste in music were missed. I hope you are feeling much better. Hey, this is my 400th post. Does this mean I advance up the marine food chain to a sea slug or something?
  3. No need to apologize Old 55! I was asleep at the switch again. Even though I'm not a huge Dylan fan, I will nominate the one song of his which, for some inexplicable reason, I absolutely love: Lay, Lady Lay - Bob Dylan I like your idea of the Special pre 1950 top ten idea. As I age (gracefully, of course) I find myself rediscovering the magic of the music my parents loved.
  4. Chain Of Fools - Aretha Franklin Over The Rainbow - Judy Garland. I've wanted to nominate this song for some time, but I thought it might be ruled ineligible because of its age. When Jenny brilliantly nominated Unforgettable during the last round, I decided that Over The Rainbow should pass muster. This song never fails to bring a tear to my eye and if ever anybody "owned" a song, it is Judy and this marvelous tune. I can't imagine anybody else doing it justice.
  5. The four teams I'm rooting for have all made it to the second round, although the Mexicans made it by the skin of their teeth. Spain is looking good and perhaps this will be the year they live up to their enormous potential. England made it comfortably to the second round but they did not look particularly good in doing so. They must play much better and avoid any more injuries if they hope to advance beyond the second round. I picked Italy to win it all in a soccer pool we have going at work, so I'm relieved to see the Italians have advanced. As usual, however, they did not make things easy for themselves. I'm disappointed that the Ivory Coast did not advance. They play an entertaining brand of football. Bring on the second round!!!
  6. 1. Unforgettable - Nat King Cole 2. To Sir With Love - Lulu 3. Don't Answer Me - The Alan Parsons Project 4. Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me - Mac Davis 5. Put A Little Love In Your Heart - Jackie DeShannon 6. Son Of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield 7. Love The One You're With - Stephen Stills 8. Eye In The Sky - The Alan Parsons Project 9. Smooth Operator - Sade 10. Baby Come Back - Player Honourable Mention: All Night Long, Big Love, Ode To Billie Joe, How Much I Feel, Mandy, and Crazy.
  7. I've whittled my list down to 16 selections and now I'm stuck!!! AARRGHHH!!!
  8. Thank-you my friend! I've always loved this song. Lulu is IMO a very underrated singer. I also love her version of The Man With The Golden Gun.
  9. A great nomination, Edna!!! I intend to nominate another Alan Parsons Project song in the near future.
  10. Don't Get Hooked On Me - Mac Davis The only song by Mac Davis I know, but I really love it! To Sir With Love - Lulu A great song by the little Scottish girl with the BIG voice.
  11. Several people have expressed frustration with the tendency of many of us to nominate and vote for only songs from the 60's and 70's. I grew up in the 70's and consequently, most of the songs I love and which have meaning for me are the songs I grew up listening to. In fairness, I have tried to listen to most of the more recent songs nominated by our younger members. In all honesty, I just don't like most of them. I will continue to try to keep an open mind regarding more recent tunes, but I'm not going to vote for something I don't like. Although I would not presume to speak for other people, I suspect this may be true for some others also.
  12. 1. Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac 2. Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty 3. Call Me The Breeze - Lynyrd Skynyrd 4. Hawaii Five-0 - The Ventures 5. Fortunate Son - C.C.R. 6. Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealers Wheel 7. Feel Like Makin' Love - Bad Company 8. Sharp Dressed Man - ZZ Top 9. Ooh Baby Baby - Linda Rondstadt 10. Boys Of Summer - Don Henley This was an extraordinarily difficult selection. I had to leave off some great tunes like Rumble and When A Man Loves A Woman. Yeesh!
  13. Ellen DeGeneres She finds humour in everyday things and manages to be funny without being vulgar or offensive. Rowan Atkinson - best known for his Mr. Bean characterization and his hilarious Blackadder series, he is also a very good stand-up comedian. Lewis Black - I have only seen him twice, but he cracked me up both times. Jeff Foxworthy Bob Newhart - The king of the pregnant pause and the stutter. His early comedy albums were priceless.
  14. 1. Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty. A huge hit (at least in Canada) for the former member of Stealers Wheel, whose Stuck In The Middle With You was nominated by Edna. Great choice, Edna!! 2. Hawaii Five-0 - The Ventures
  15. This is tough because I haven't heard a significant number of the songs nominated. However, of the ones with which I'm familiar, these are the real stinkers. 1. Who Let The Dogs Out 2. Shaddap You Face 3. Roxanne 4. Superman 5. Revolution 9 6. I Will Always Love You 7. Torn Between Two Lovers 8. MacArthur Park 9. Just Like Starting Over 10. In The Summertime
  16. Me too, Edna!! It is the only Wham song that I like.
  17. Feelings Walkin On Sunshine A frothy, breezy song. It always makes me think of summer. Wannabe
  18. 1. Rocky Mountain High - John Denver 2. So Into You - Atlanta Rhythm Section 3. Roll On Down The Highway - B.T.O. 4. Summer Breeze - Seals & Crofts 5. Ventura Highway - America 6. Reeling In The Years - Steely Dan 7. You've Got A Friend - James Taylor 8. Venus - Shocking Blue 9. Mary Jann's Last Dance - Tom Petty 10. The House is Rockin' - S.R.V.
  19. Thank-you so much, Shawna!! Both those songs bring back memories of my high school graduation.
  20. Roll On Down The Highway - B.T.O. So Into You - The Atlanta Rhythm Section. Southern rock with just a hint of jazz.
  21. Oh nuts! There goes another one from my list!! (Ventura Highway)
  22. Great selections S2V!! I'll have to eliminate both of them from my list.
