Hmm, that's just a guy vamping on an organ with guitar drums and bass (keyboard bass). Is there anything remarkable about the instrumentation? have I missed something? LBB

The Songfactors' Choice Top Ten #155

Ooh, I think I have my number one... -
Well, I'm not really sure what you're getting at, but if anything I would say that Lennon is more fanciful and McCartney more, umm, mundane/ordinary/simple/direct. So maybe that's the opposite of what you were saying ;-) LBB

And let's not forget Frank Zappa... We are talking about great instrumentation, aren't we, not great instrumentalists? LBB

I think Brian Wilson is/was the master (apart from that obvious band that we don't need to name yet again), and the whole genre of Chamber Pop that followed. And if we move away from pop/rock, then Gil Evans (Miles Davis arranger in the Birth Of The Cool, Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain period... LBBB ps, I know you love your Sufjan Stevens, and he is of course a real star in this department.

It's a "cover" of Jet Boy Jet Girl by Elton Morello. In fact, it uses the exact same backing track. There's a bit of controversy around that one... LBB

Oh, the "Hey Jude hitmakers"... those Beatles. Don't confuse them with the "Starman hitmaker, David Bowie" . -
The Sixth Songfactors' Choice Ultimate Top Ten - Round 1
LeeBB replied to Farin's topic in The Songfactor's Choice Top 10
That Sade songs sounds to me like it belongs back in the mid-70s "Yacht rock" era. I like it, and I like the mid-70s, but it always sounds like an anachronism. LBB -
A "BB gun"?? That's some kind of firearm, right? In the house... with the kids. I know that "a well regulated Militia... [is] necessary to the security of a free State", but this does seem a little extreme ;-) LBB (ducking head...)

The Sixth Songfactors' Choice Ultimate Top Ten - Round 1
LeeBB replied to Farin's topic in The Songfactor's Choice Top 10
I suspect that the "Songfactors' Choice Ultimate Top Ten" is inevitably going to be classic rock. If you want to be pessimistic about it, you might call it the lowest common denominator, but these songs are really just the ones that we are going to get a concensus on. That's what makes them "classic" rock. LBB -
Michael Jackson Suffering From A Flesh-Eating Infection?
LeeBB replied to Mike's topic in Music News
Unfortunately Michael Jackson is taking even longer to go away completely. I like to pretend that he found Allah and changed his name, or became a senator, or married a prince from Monaco, and dropped out of public view, so we could all remember his music untainted. Cruel, I know, but, damn he was good... way back when... -

In Australia, we are more familiar with the cover done by Glen Shorrock(Little River Band)'s former band, the Twilights. It's a beautie!! LBB -
Well, there's lots of songs that have inspired "replies/responses" from other artists. The Wild Side Of Life ... It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels King Of The Road ... Queen Of The House the Newcastle Song ... Rak Off Normie Southern Man ... Sweet Home Alabama ... and there are all kinds of theories about conversations-by-song between Lennon/McCartney/Dylan/Wilson... LBBB
