  1. A new earworm is conquering Holland. This "summerhit" is played every day on Radio Tour de France, towards the end of the day's race. La Caravane Passe - "Salade, Tomate, Oignon" : . And an old earworm is having a revival: a film has been released about the sad life of Soeur Sourire and her only hit Dominique is played often: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CIWmO7W0gc .
  2. I'm quite surprised that the little animal is called an earwig, and that earworm is not in the English dictionary. The Dutch word for earwig is "oorwurm". The Germans call it an "Ohrwurm". Does anyone have suggestions for a good recipe against earworms? A song that easily replaces the rotten earworm music with joyful sounds? Like: after having heard the earworm "It will come in time" by Billy Preston and Syreeta, I must hear "Rainy Day Women #12 and #35" to save my day. Or Cheap Trick's "I want you to want me".
  3. Worst voice in music history is Michael McDonald's. Barry White is next.
  4. I never understood MJ's crown "King of Pop". To me, "Pop" has a middle-of-the-roadish Nr.1 hitrecord connotation, not compatible with an Eddy Van Halen solo. As for the ultimate Kings and Queens of Pop I would like to nominate: ABBA.
  5. My favourite magic song is Dr.John The Nighttripper's Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya-Ya. Or does the following offer cross the line between magic and quackery? "They call me, Dr. John, The Night Tripper Got my sizzling Gris-Gris in my hand Day trippin' up, Back down by you I'm the last of the best They call me the Gris-Gris man Got many clients Come from miles around Running down my prescription I got my medicine, to cure all your ills I got remedies of every description (Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya) Hey Now (Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya) Hey Now If you got love trouble, got a bad woman you can't control I got just the thing for you Something called control in the hearts get together drops. If you work to hard and you need a little rest try my utilize rub put some on my drop fix and jam, put some in your breakfast."
  6. Huh? Is there is a song "I know" on Metamorphosis? Not on my copies, not in the Stones discographies.
  7. Pink Floyd's Astronomy Domine, I'd say. Lime and limpid green, a second scene A fight between the blue you once knew. Floating down, the sound resounds Around the icy waters underground. Jupiter and Saturn, Oberon, Miranda and Titania. Neptune, Titan, Stars can frighten. Lime and limpid green, a second scene A fight between the blue you once knew. Floating down, the sound resounds Around the icy waters underground. Jupiter and Saturn, Oberon, Miranda and Titania. Neptune, Titan, Stars can frighten. Blinding signs flap, Flicker, flicker, flicker blam. Pow, pow. Stairway scare, Dan Dare, who's there? Lime and limpid green, the sounds around The icy waters under Lime and limpid green, the sounds around The icy waters underground.

  9. Not mentioned so far, if I checked correctly: Adriano Celentano's nonsense lyrics, sometimes validated as the first rap ever: Prisencolinensinainciusol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAnYBCImAa4 Prisencolinensinainciusol In de col men seivuan Prisencolinensinainciusol ol rait Uis de seim cius nau op de seim Ol uait men in de colobos dai Trrr - ciak is e maind beghin de col Bebi stei ye push yo oh Uis de seim cius nau op de seim Ol uoit men in de colobos dai Not s de seim laikiu de promisdin Iu nau in trabol lovgiai ciu gen In do camo not cius no bai for lov so Op op giast cam lau ue cam lov ai Oping tu stei laik cius go mo men Iu bicos tue men cold dobrei goris Oh sandei Ai ai smai sesler Eni els so co uil piso ai In de col men seivuan Prisencolinensinainciusol ol rait Ai ai smai senflecs Eni go for doing peso ai Prisencolinensinainciusol ol rait Uel ai sint no ai giv de sint Laik de cius nobodi oh gud taim lev feis go Uis de seim et seim cius go no ben Let de cius end kai for not de gai giast stei Ai ai smai senflecs Eni go for doing peso ai In de col mein seivuan Prisencolinensinainciusol ol rait Lu nei si not sicidor Ah es la bebi la dai big iour Ai aismai senflecs Eni go for doing peso ai In de col mein seivuan Prisencolinensinainciusol ol rait Lu nei si not sicodor Ah es la bebi la dai big iour
  10. I humbly admit not having checked this Songfact, before raising my voice. Only excuse I have: failing to remember/find out what the Coldplay song's title ("Talk") was, being not much of a Coldplay-fan. A great show of value for http://forum.songfacts.com , I'd say. Thanx for this correxion.
  11. Is that so...? Scepticism and negativism really got a hold of me then, in these days of fast-bonus-grabbing scandals. Is it like The Stones dealing with k.d.laing, after discovering Anybody Seen My Baby was very much like a song of hers? Or is this writing credits sharing a more permanent agreement?
  12. Coldplay has again been accused of plagiarism, and again for Viva La Vida. (The Sun, May 4th). This time it is the artist Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, claiming that his song 'Foreigner Suite' from 1970 was plagiarized by Chris Martin cum suis. And, ehhm, does anybody get reminders of a Coldplay song when hearing Kraftwerks Computer Love ?
  13. How about the UK band Half Man Half Biscuit ? Thanx to this question, I'm gonna find out now whatever kinda music they made. So far I've only had fun with their name.
  14. Driving one night, I turned up the volume of the car stereo. "Why so loud?" asked my lady. "Because the drumming in this song is very much beee-autiful!", I replied. She prefers melody, rather than rhythm. Fortunately, the song that was played (Buddy Joe), had both. She agreed about the drumming. I am fond of solid Diesel-engine-like drumming that carries a rock-song. I prefer the English drumming style, like practised by Jon Hiseman, Mick Fleetwood, Cozy Powell, Keith Moon a.o. I'm not so fond of American drummers like Max Weinberg, Jack Irons, Ralph Molina. Here's my three favourite drum-driven rock 'n roll songs. Inspire me, and gimme yours. 1. White Room, The Cream, drummed by Ginger Baker. 2. Substitute, The Who, drummed by Keith Moon. 3. Buddy Joe, The Golden Earring, drummed by Cesar Zuiderwijk.
  15. Downloading didn't change much for us. "In the old days" my fiancee and I used to spend some time in a record store, to listen to the latest Neil Young, or Bob Dylan, or some new talent. We wouldn't buy the record or CD until it was clear that is was worth the money. We bought about 30-45 albums per year. Nowadays we download, listen carefully, and if it is good, we buy the real thing. We still buy about 30-45 albums per year. The difference: no more bad bargains.
  16. But how did others insert the picture in their reply? (asked the cool leight weight nerd...)
  17. "I danced with a football player In a hole because my family thinks I'm stupid anyway." Don't recognize myself in that phrase.
  18. Hmm. I wonder who came first: MacArthur Park by Richard Harris, or Hey Jude. Both over 7 minutes, both 2nd half 1968. Can't find a release date on Harris's hit. In that year I also bought America, by The Nice. Definitily somewhere in summer. (Slightly off-topic, now, I s'pose?)
  19. The Kinks with the first hard-rock hit "You Really Got Me". The beginning of really LOUD music.
  20. Radiohead's Anyone Can Play Guitar has a line: "I wanna be Jim Morrison".
  21. A pick-up truck is mentioned in Memory Motel, by the Rolling Stones: She drove a pick-up truck Painted green and blue The tires were wearing thin She turned a mile or two When I asked her where she headed for "Back up to Boston I'm singing in a bar" I got to fly today on down to Baton Rouge My nerves are shot already The road ain't all that smooth Across in Texas is the rose of San Antone I keep on a feeling that's gnawing in my bones
  22. A version of "As Tears Go By" by the Rolling Stones was released in italian: "Con Le Mie Lacrime" was a hitsingle in Italy, in the 60's. The Stones played it in Milan, Italy, on July 11th, 2006, after Italy had won the World Championship Football (yes football: played with feet only, unlike american football which is really rugby). I'm also fond of "Helden", David Bowies german version of "Heroes".
