  1. I wonder if anyone can help me name a video that I saw many years ago. I think it was a Jimi Hendrix song, possibly Fire. The video was a kind of psychadelic animation of a woman and she transformed into different poses and images as the video went on, some of them quite erotic. The drawing was very colourful but the background was simply black from what I remember. I've been looking for this on Youtube and other places but can't find it anywhere. I hope I didn't just imagine it after one too many vodkas or something! I'm sure it exists, although I'm not sure if it's by Jimi Hendrix or someone else. I presume the video is late 60's, early 70's. I saw it in the early 80's (I think!!). Anyone have any ideas about who/what it is and where I can find it? Thanks.
  2. Another concert then? The best concert ever for me was Neil Young in Sydney, 1989. Me and my two best friends missed out on tickets and we were devastated. So we decided to go to the venue and sit outside and at least try to hear him, drink some cheap wine and feel sorry for ourselves. So there we were sitting outside the doors, so upset at what we were missing, when about half an hour in, three very drunk women came stumbling out of the doors, yelling out that Neil Young sucked, walked up to us and just handed us their tickets! We couldn't believe our luck! It was such a great moment. So we ran in and Neil was still doing his acoustic set, which was just amazing. His voice is even better live. Then he pluggged in and I can honestly say I've yet to see a better concert. We couldn't believe those women walked out on it, but I'm so glad they did. It was one of the best nights of my life! I have vertigo too by the way. It's called benign inner ear something or other. It's pretty debilitating when you have an attack. When you stand up the room starts spinning around like you've drunk half a bottle of scotch. Not a good feeling.
  3. What's Goin' On - Marvin Gaye Masters of War / North Country Blues - Bob Dylan Keep On Rockin' In the Free World - Neil Young To Have and To Have Not - Billy Bragg And a few Australian songs about race issues in our country. Like A Dog - Powderfinger From Little Things, Big Things Grow - Paul Kelly (great storyteller, he's kind of our Dylan as far as songwriting goes) Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil (pretty much all of their songs are protest songs as well).
  4. Oh, don't get me started! In My time of Dying You Shook Me Ten Years Gone Tangerine White Summer, Black Mountainside I Can't Quit You Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Since I've Been Loving You Black Country Woman Gallows Pole Four Sticks Moby Dick The Girl I Love Bring It On Home The Rover No Quarter etc. etc. etc. ....
  5. It's a really good song. I also really like their version of Polly Come Home and a very sad song called Your Long Journey. It's a great album.
  6. Hi Farin. Thanks! Here's another one from Neil Young. I really love this photo, from the cover of Decade.
  7. Led Zeppelin's version of In My Time of Dying is one of my favourite Zeppelin songs. They just lose themselves in that song. It's brilliant.
  8. Me too. She's up there in my top 3 alongside Dylan and Neil Young.
  9. Hi Laurie. Thanks! Another one I just thought of. Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. K.D Lang does a gorgeous version as well.
  10. I love Ministry's version of Dylan's Lay Lady Lay and the Smashing Pumpkin's version of Fleetwood Mac's Landslide. And Patti Smith's reworking of Gloria and Hey Joe are brilliant. I actually like them better than the originals. Sacrilege!
  11. I just got this album. It's really good. I'm a big Zeppelin fan but I don't know much about Alison Krauss to be honest, but I love her voice. Their voices meld so well together. Robert's voice is mellow and smooth. He has one of the great voices in music in my opinion. The best track for me is the old Gene Clark number Polly Come Home. Just brilliant, and beautiful lyrics.
