  5. #8 is right, Brad. #7 doesn't really fit the theme.
  6. Excellent, Baz! I was thinking of the Buddy Holly song for #9, but Mama Cass works too. The theme I was thinking of is Artists who died young (from my point of view I consider 40ish young ) By the way, Jambalaya is the answer to the #3 hint.

  16. 1. Australia - The Kinks (1969) 2. 40,000 Headmen - Traffic (1968) A landmark composition for the Winwood/Capaldi songwriting team, "(Roamin' Thro' the Gloamin With) 40,000 Headman" -- and that is the official title -- is a true classic. Lyrically, it's a psychedelic fantasy about escapism. Although wildly [sic] thought to be a "drug" song, it's more of an evocation of a dream state. Musically, the song is built around a very simple, minor-key set of folk chord changes, with a vague Latin feel. The bridge changes to a heavy major-key progression before returning to a long fadeout that takes the listener into the ozone. One of the most evocative songs of the period, and a definite masterpiece. ~ Allmusic.com 3. At the Zoo - Simon and Garfunkel (1967) 4. You Better Move On - The Rolling Stones (1964) 5. 19. 1. She Has Funny Cars - Jefferson Airplane (1967). The leadoff track to Jefferson Airplane's second album, Surrealistic Pillow, was an incredible departure. Musically, "She Has Funny Cars" is driven by a hypnotic, Bo Diddley-style beat and a powerful guitar riff that sounds like "Day Tripper" turned inside out. Lyrically, it's a strong bit of social commentary about independence and the shallowness of hypocrisy. The Airplane tie it all together very nicely, with a compact melody, and, aided by new kid on the block Grace Slick's syncopated vocal lines, it reintroduced a still young band to the American consciousness. ~ Review from AllMusic 2.
