  1. 'Born' DVDs Capture Exuberant E Street Band November 03, 2005 When Bruce Springsteen handed over a wealth of unlabeled concert film footage from a 1975 show at London's Hammersmith Odeon to editor Thom Zimny in 2004, neither party knew for sure what was inside. But after a year of painstaking restoration, the full show will be seen for the first time on Columbia's 30th anniversary edition of Springsteen's classic album "Born To Run," due Nov. 15. "Slowly but surely, we pieced it together song by song," Zimny said of the footage last night (Nov. 2) during a screening in New York. Zimny spent months synching up silent film from a four-camera shoot with the 24-track audiotapes from the concert, the E Street Band's first on English soil. "This was a young band that just finished a new album," Zimny said. "The energy comes across in the film. 'Born To Run' is not an anthem yet -- it's in the middle of the set." Indeed, dressed in colorful suits and hats, Springsteen and company are beyond exuberant on stage, storming through favorites like "Rosalita," "It's Hard To Be a Saint in the City" and "She's the One." Although footage from several other notable shows during this era (including a stint at New York's Bottom Line) has circulated in bootleg form for years, Zimny says the Hammersmith film "is the best representation of 1975" that exists. The DVD also includes three songs from a 1973 show in Los Angeles, the original film of which was in such bad shape that it required frame-by-frame retouching in Photoshop. Described by Springsteen as an album intended to capture the feeling of "one endless summer night," "Born To Run" also features a revealing documentary about its genesis, including newly shot footage of Springsteen explaining the songs at the piano interspersed with recollections from current and former E Street Band members. "The whole score is made up of outtakes and demos," Zimny said. "Even the DVD menus have outtakes of them talking in the studio." Present-day Springsteen is shown listening in wonder to the basic instrumental track that was recorded of "Born To Run," as well as other aborted versions of the song that included a string section and multi-tracked backing vocals. Noting that the band spent six months hemming and hawing over a final take of the tune, guitarist Steven Van Zandt observes with a laugh, "A song should take three hours, not six months!"
  2. Eric Clapton has renewed his deal with Reprise, for whom he has recorded since 1983. Since Nielsen SoundScan began tabulating sales in 1991, the artist has sold 15.2 million copies of his Reprise releases in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "I am happy to continue my relationship with Reprise Records," Clapton says. "We've done a lot in the past 25 years, and there's still plenty of music yet to be made." The artist just concluded a three-night stand at New York's Madison Square Garden with Cream; a live album from the trio's May run in London was recently issued by Reprise. Although it is unknown what Clapton's next project will be, he will presumably devote time to writing his memoirs for Random House, which is due for a 2007 release to coincide with a North American tour and a boxed set.

The independent flick will star Lohan as a fan of Lennon, who befriends Lennon's killer, Mark Chapman, in the days leading up to December 8, 1980. It is currently unknown who will portray Lennon.

Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne will attend the event with his wife Sharon and his three children Aimee, Kelly and Jack. 5. I know his songs from my parents listening to his music, and I love his voice, but I know nothing about him other than his daughter is Natalie Cole. Give me what ya got.
  6. The only thing about that pic..is neither one of them looks like they are happy, you know what I mean. Just like hey here we are...what more do you want...but then they were chics with attitude!
  7. Yes we would Edna...funny you posted that pic, I have it on a postcard on my bedroom mirror!
  8. I didn't know about that, interesting. I think it is an ok thing, just a few joints is nothing to have the cops busting down your doors for, there are more serious drugs on the streets. I live in small town Ohio and in my area they have been so many meth labs being busted, now that is a good thing. But pot, come on, so many are using it that have cancer. I say ok to having it legal for just a few joints.
  9. Man was Keith the ultimate great looking bad guy or what!!!
  10. Thanks for the nice comments...there may be more to come...I will have to look over my writings.

  12. Ross, Gordy Reunite For 'Lady' DVD The cast and crew of "Lady Sings the Blues" gathered on the Paramount lot last night (Nov. 1) in Los Angeles to celebrate the DVD release of the 1972 Billie Holiday biopic, "Lady Sings the Blues." "You know, it's reunion time, which is so wonderful," the film's star, Diana Ross, said. "You don't get a chance to get everybody all together. And it's so wonderful to see Billy Dee [Williams] and to see B.G. [Motown Records founder and the film's executive producer Berry Gordy] and to see some of the Motown people." Holiday purists aside (many have dubbed the film useless as a biography), "Lady Sings the Blues" earned considerable critical praise and five Oscar nominations, including one for Ross. "It was my first film, you know, and my acting debut," Ross recalled. "It was, like, the one that gave me a chance to believe that I could do this. It was very exciting." Film and TV producer Suzanne de Passe (an Oscar nominee for the "Lady" screenplay) explained the film's long-delayed Nov. 8 DVD was "because there were aspects of the deal that belonged to Paramount and also belonged to Mr. Gordy. And I think it took all this time for people to read what they had and come together and make it happen." When the two camps finally came to terms, Paramount recruited virtually all the surviving principals for the DVD's bonus features, much of which revolves around Gordy. "You know, he's so special," said Ross. "It's just so amazing to me. Nobody thanks him enough, because it's not just this film that he needs to be thanked for. All those people at Motown, and all those artists that are out there today sampling music because of what Motown did, that's because of him." It's no wonder Ross has such a soft spot for her old boss, who refused to let "Lady" be made with anyone but her in the lead. "Cinema Center Films in New York turned us down with Diana, because they wanted someone else to play the part," he recalled. That is a movie I need to watch again...been a long time and I am a Billie Holiday fan.

  15. CeeCee...that is why I am so drawn to Janis also...yes her voice is amazing and one of a kind but her emotional state I so idetify with...and I am still looking for that one true love as she did her fast and short life.
  16. This came to me late last night...if you could for one day become one of your favorite artists, who would it be? Live their life for 24 hours. I would pick Janis Joplin...of course she is my favorite, but more to feel what she had in her soul. I have read so much about her, and I know her life had a great deal of pain, and heartache and she longed for that one true love. I would like to know what was really going on with her, and to have her voice for one day....WOW...so she is my choice. Who is yours??
  17. Thanks...it has always been such a personal thing for me...feels weird seeing it knowing others can see.
  18. That is cool....I also read yesterday that Clapton said they will not tour again. It was something he wanted to do and this is it...what a bummer.

  22. I was told by someone to share my writings on here...I don't normally share my poems but I feel so at ease here, I will start...slowly. Forever Love A lifetime of beautiful memories you gave me, Our time together not long enough... Always wondering what might have been, Filled with sorrow that we had to end. You filled my heart with a love I had never known, My soul you touched with your tenderness... My breath you could take away, Loving you more each passing day. Sharing sadness and happiness in the night, Soft kisses and genlte whispers exchanged... Loving each other so wild and strong, Your touch I will forever long. Still hearing you say my name, Feeling your lips against mine.... Your body next to me, Wanting those moments frozen in time. No regrets I have of our love, A gift you were to me from the heavens... Finding my soul mate, I now know a little too late. Brought together by destiny, A love that will never die in our hearts... Torn apart by doubt, Trying hard but not able to work it out. Forever you will be my love, Never will I forget you my sweet man.... A glimmer of hope I hold in my heart, Even thought we are now apart.
