The movie with Patrick Swayze that you refer to is "Roadhouse". The blind singer is Jeff Healey, who had a chart topper with "Angel Eyes", and did an awesome version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I recognize the movie, but not the reference to the 'Ex's' song. I DO know that George Strait had a big hit with it. Hope that helps some.
