  5. You're in luck, I really don't want to clean the basement tonight. I wouldn't recommend downloading music, but if you do, preview each song fully. There are a lot of crappy or intentionally altered copies out there. Country Unless you have a two steppin crowd I would use the country sparingly. 6. I haven't nailed down who did it. It's about 6 minutes long and samples a lot of pop tunes. It starts out with some guy saying "This is a journey into sound" and then the beat starts. There's a line dance associated with it here on the east coast as well.
  7. Through the bathroom window, if I recall.
  8. You know for a fact that I had to go back and re-read my post to make sure I didn't make a freudian slip!
  9. Just as long as you don't <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 me, I'm cool with that. And I've been doing the one without the other thing (sex w/o love) for as long as I can remember. (Just hopin' none of the ex's read this.)
  10. Thanks for the welcome. I'm a regular on another UBB type community with about 4500 posts. Yeah, I need a life.
  11. That's half the fun of these forums. ::
  12. Because nothing goes better with 15 year old, primered out Camaros and mullets and bad tattoos.
  13. I do about 20 weddings a years and the songs that I use to get people on the floor are listed. There are a few tricks to this, though. Remember that a lot of the folks will leave after the dinner and obligatory moments (cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss), so don't be alarmed if you see a mass exodus. The ones remaining are there for the party. Or to get so drunk their spouse starts to look good again. Try to do the older stuff (60's, disco) first, this allows you to get all of the family up and having fun. Most of your older relatives aren't gonna respond to Nelly, 50 cent, Ja Rule or Lil Jon. Save that for when the fogies go home and you and the bridesmaids and groomsmen are ready to tear it up. Listen to each song you choose to make sure it has a danceable beat. A song may pop into mind as being cool, but when you play it you may find that, while it makes your toe tap, it doesn't quite have the get up and dance rhythm. For the equipment: You may want to rent what's called a head (amp and mixer in one) with a few speakers, speaker stands, wires to connect them and appropriate power cords. Home speakers just don't create enough low end (bass sound) to dance. This will allow you to feed the cd player in along with a microphone (if you wanna rent one) to do the announcements. For the dinner I would suggest upbeat motown, upbeat contemporary country and upbeat adult contemporary. Can't go wrong with mixing in Frank Sinatra or upbeat Big Band Music as well. You want songs that folks are familiar with and will get them in a happy mood. I would avoid those slow and soulfull songs unless you're using them as slow dance songs or you're gonna save 'em for the honeymoon. . You want to keep the mood as festive as possible. Before anyone blasts me for being trite or predictable, remember that this is a gathering of many generations and ages, so the trick is to keep everyone as happy as possible. No, I don't listen to alot of this stuff at home, but it works for diverse crowds. So, here are some of the tunes I play on a regular basis at weddings: YMCA - Village People You're the One that I want - Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta (from Grease soundtrack) Respect - Aretha Franklin I will Survive - Gloria Gaynor Some Kind Of Wonderful - Grand Funk Version Twist and Shout - Beatles Version Shout - Otis Day and the Knights version from Animal House Sweet Home Alabama - Skynyrd Sam And Dave - Soul Man Bitch - Meredith Brooks (if your Bridesmaids are into it, otherwise the song falls flat) Electric Boogie (Electric Slide) - Marcia Griffiths Booty Call - not sure off the top of my head Cha Cha Slide - Casper Da Butt - EU Baby Got Back - Sir Mix-a-lot Yeah - Usher Get Low - Lil Jon Shake Ya Tailfeather - Nelly Strokin' - Clarence Carter In Da Club - 50 Cent Commodores - Brick House Wild Cherry - Play that Funky Music Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison Nelly - Hot In Herre Marvin Gaye - Let's get it on Al Green - Let's Stay Together Lil Kim - Magic Stick Sarah Conner - Bounce (some versions have a long intro) Juvenile - Back tha thing up Sean Paul - Get busy DMX - Party Up Black Eyed Peas - Let's get it started Outkast - I Like the way you move, Hey Ya! Terror Squad - Lean back Frankie Valli & The Four Season - Oh What A Night (December '63) Sister Sledge - We are Family Gap Band - You Dropped the Bomb On me *I could go on with this list for quite a while, but you get the idea. If you want, I can give you more ideas on danceable country, 80's and 90's or classic party rock.* Good Luck!
