Sarah McLachlan salutes the holiday season on her new album, "Wintersong," due Oct. 17 via Arista. Beyond a host of Christmas favorites, the set will feature the newly penned title track and a cover of John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)."

Long-time producer Pierre Marchand helmed the effort, which was recorded in McLachlan's home studio. It also includes "What Child Is This (Greensleeves)," "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and "Silent Night," plus Joni Mitchell's "River" and "Christmas Time Is Here," from "A Charlie Brown Christmas." "River" will also be included on a Starbucks compilation, due Nov. 9.

Throughout, "Wintersong" boasts the instrument talents of Barenaked Ladies member Jim Creegan; McLachlan previously recorded another Christmas hit ("God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings") with the group for its 2004 holiday album, "Barenaked for the Holidays."

McLachlan's last studio album, 2003's "Afterglow," peaked at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and spawned three hits on Billboard's Adult Top 40 Songs chart.
