Carl
The Belgians own our beer companies and the Germans make better cars, but America still has some amazing music to offer, which the Bush administration realized when they sent Ozomatli around the world as cultural ambassadors. It was a great choice, as this west-coast funk collective makes some joyful noise that translates across borders. Their bass player told Dan all about it, and there's a handy clip from the CNN story on the subject embedded in the interview. Turns out they had a little incident in Madagascar that inspired one of their best songs. Ozomatli is also known for their song "Gay Vatos In Love," which got some attention as part of the gay marriage debate in California.
