So then,

Other words commonly mispronounced:

Salmon . . . most pronounce the L, which is silent

Solder . . .most pronounce the L which is silent

Pigeon . . . most pronounce it with a D. Not sure why.

Renown . . .most say re-known, a mystery in itself.

list goes on and on. BTW, the T is silent in "often"

Matter of fact, we had a thread about this back in '04.
