  1. I've noticed a change in the six months I have been on - when I joined it was very much a 'Stairway to Heaven v Freebird' discussion group (I know other topics were discussed, but I really did think it had this emphasis). It has opened up since, to include discussions on religion, politics and downright smut and perversion. I personally think it has changed for the better, as it enables people who like music to talk about all sorts of issues that touch each other's lives, whilst maintaining the musical undercurrent.

With regard to the 'popularity contest' concern, this is just human group dynamics at work, no different to any other social group and consequently unavoidable. This effect is cyclical, and one always has the choice whether or not to participate. In any social group people will bond through a system of compliments and mutual ego-massaging, and this is a large part of the reason why we as animals chose to communicate with others - it makes us feel good about ourselves. As I said before, it is cyclical as group members useage depends upon all sorts of factors such as work/domestic pressures and interest span, so like the British weather if you don't like it just wait 10 minutes and it will change!

As for a perceived downturn in intellectual standards, I don't think this has happened, its just that the subject matter tends to the base on occasion. Its all about how it is done, and I think it is done in a manner that whilst often crude, generally avoids the downright offensive. Too many knob gags? Depends upon your sense of humour I suppose, and there is always a choice of forums if a particular one doesn't interest.

    Just rambling.

    Regards

  2. CD, the 'I don't think' bit was an accident for which I apologise. I started typing something else, stopped and forgot I left half a sentence.

Good to see you back though. The 'pure mutated dog sh*t' comment was inspirational and will keep me warm all day!

Your take on Politics is wonderful. Put Kerry into any European political party and he would be a Conservative. As he is seen as the 'Liberal' way in the US, most Americans therefore are right wing in their views. Keep up the good work.

    Regards

  3. CD, the American population is generally so right-wing that any 'Liberal' trying to push a view is right-wing also. Just look at Bush v Kerry for an example of this. A 'Liberal' in the true sense would be a Commie in the US.

    I don't think

  4. I shall not post a photo of the little piece of heaven I call home as I don't know how to. I can say however that San Diego and La Jolla are lovely places and having visited I would be happy to live in either.

Excuse the sweeping generalisation here, but you in the US are very lucky to have so much space to play.

    Regards

  5. Romantic side? It is still there, only I am suffering from 'new baby' syndrome so I feel I have an excuse - sheer mental exhaustion! When I do have the chance to empty my head, profanity spills forth unfortunately. Underneath I am still the same smooth chap I always was.

As for the crystal meth, I have heard (from a mate who had a drink with them in a hotel bar in Dublin of all places) that the Chillies live on the stuff.

    Regards

  6. Are there fewer buttons nowadays? I'm not searching for one (I gave that up a while ago, mate!), but you do seem a lot more passive than you once did. Is it a new 'lurve' interest perhaps, or more to do at work? It's only because I care!

    Regards
