  1. Me, too, but I'll take Jack however I can get him! ::

I even watched "Envy", for God's sake. Now that is true love.

That is devotion, i'm sad to say.

I'm still waiting for them to release some of the songs/bits that D did on Oppie and Anthony back in the day.

  2. CHEERS is my number one, only cause there is always a good bar story that can be told there. I used to stay up to watch re-runs on Friday and Saturday night on WPIX with my dad when I was a kid. It was fun times.

My second would be MASH. Although I do think the way that it ended was perfect and shouldn't be re-done.

I hate hate hate hate Seinfeld. I find that show just plain un-funny.

Barney Miller is before my time, I have no idea what it is.

  3. The Mothers of Invention was one of the best backup bands in the day, even if you couldn't tell from some of the more popular Zappa songs. The best song to listen to them on is Joe's Garage. Take a listen again to it.

I think the draw of them was that they could write a song about almost anything... and weren't afraid to do the wierd and obscue, like Yellow Snow and Let's Make the Water Turn Black.

  4. That be the one :beatnik:

Awesome group of films. We watched the trilogy in my "Art of Lyric Poetry" Class this semester. I think I was one of the only people who stayed awake for them. It's a shame that they missed out. My favorite of the three is the last one, "Testament of the Poet." Causes you to think, and to actually pay attention to what's going on.

  5. I made a short commercial type thing for class one time. It started with cows being led into a factory...then you see an axe come down and then it shows blood on the floor. The cows keep marching(without heads) into this big machine thing...then on the other end packages of hamburger are comin' out. After it fades to black it says..."Some Assembly Required" The teacher hated it...she said it was gross and tasteless....I was just tryin' to make a point. I know this was a very random post thing....but we were on the topic of commercials....so yeah.

Everyone's entitiled to their opinion. I don't think your teacher was seeing it from a point of view that didn't require her head up her ass. I don't agree with the message (mostly cause meat is my friend) but it doesn't mean that the commercial wasn't well thought out and well produced. I've found that some student commercials can be better thought out and better produced than some that are corporate purchased. Especially PSA's.

  6. The Something Corporate version of "Just Like A Woman" interests me greatly. I hope they have recorded it already, because with Andrew McMahon's cancer SoCo has cancelled all tour dates and studio time so he can focus on his health. If they haven't recorded it already this one might have to be scrapped.

  7. If you get into the acapella sound, check out The Bobs. They're more of a comedy act at times, but they've been very solid musically for about 20 years now. I've seen them live many times.

Holy [bleep], I thought I was the only person on here that knew of the Bobs. They are by far the best accapella group I have ever seen perform. Hilarious, creative, and do an amazing live show. Can't wait for them to come to the east coast again!

If you like Manhattan Transfer I suggest buying the soundtrack to "League of Their Own." There are two songs on there by MT "Sunny Side of the Street" and "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie. THere are also some great songs like that from Billy Joel (In A Sentimental Mood), Art Garfunkle (Two Sleep People), and James Taylor (Paper Moon).

  8. ^ And you said the T in the Park line-up was eh?! And you're pi**ed about missing Good Charlotte? :stars: I don't get it!

No no no no... Good Charlotte can roll over and die for all I care.... I'm pissed that I'm missing Warped Tour. Relient K and Something Corporate are two of my favorite bands.

  9. Well since we've had some Monty Python talk, and Kevin Smith monologues how bout a little Mel Brooks??!!

    Blazzing Saddles:

Jim (aka The Waco kid): Yeah, I was the kid...it got so that every pissant prairie punk who thought he could shoot a gun would ride into town to try out the Waco Kid. I must've killed more men than Cecil B Demille. Got pretty gritty. I started to hear the word draw in my sleep. Then one day, I was just walking down the street, and I heard a voice behind me say, "Reach for it Mister!" I spun around and there I was face to face with a six-year-old kid. Well I just threw my guns down and walked away....little bastard shot me in the ass!! So I limped to the nearest saloon, crawled into a whiskey bottle, and I've been there ever since.

  10. Even now and then I hear another autrocity to the music world... my most recent is Hollerback Girl. Before that, the Thong Song, Spice World, and barbie girl.

I live in the classic music world... even though most music was made before I was born. There's something about the old classic three chord rock, power chords, drum solos, and songwritting styles that just blows 99.99% of today's music out of the water.

  11. I've heard 'Mexican wine' by Fountains of Wayne. I like it... it's like poppy punk/ Something I wouldn't mind listening to when I'm sitting vela but not a song I'd buy the album for.

I used to watch them when they played local shows outside Fountains of Wayne (yes, its the name of a store in Wayne NJ). I like the song Hackensack off Welcome... but it's not fluff punk, it's more mellow. The ablum Utopia Parkway is pretty decent too.

  12. Songs Used at my Graduation:

    "Seasons of Love" -RENT

"Con Te Partido (Time to Say Goodbye)" -Paveroti

    "The Prayer" -Josh Groban

"I Hope You Dance" -LeeAnn Womack

    Other songs:

    "In My Life" -The Beatles

    "Time to Remember" -Billy Joel

    "Bookends/Old Friends" -Simon and Garfunkle

"These Are the Days" -10,000 Maniacs

    "Now and Forever" -Carole King

"With a Little Help from my Friends" -Joe Cocker

"Forever Young" -Rod Stewart (or Dylan)

    "New Horizons" -Moody Blues

  13. Uuuh. If only I had all night to sit here and list them :jack:

Here are some which have come to mind:

    Solaris (1972 version)

    The Seventh Seal

    Orpheus (1949 version)

    The Nights Of Cabiria

Royal Space Force: The Wings Of Honneamise

    Taxi Driver

    The 400 Blows

The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner

    These are cinematic perfection :beatnik:

Orpheus?! as in Cocteau's Orpheus Trilogy?!

  14. I think they're smart. Their legacy is intact. Too many old groups just keep playing and playing, adding on an extra drummer for the old drummer and an extra lead guitar player for the old guitar player.

If you want to listen and see Pink Floyd in their prime - go search out some old live shows from the bootleggers.

I agree with you totally bluesboy. I went to see the Moody Blues last year, and as much as I love them live it was like having two seperate bands on stage. The had an extra drummer, bassist, and keyboard/snyth in addition to the guys. As awesome as it is to see some of these bands play live, they jsut can't keep up with it anymore.

As much as it sucks for us fans, its kinda admirable that PF can sit there and admit they can't do it anymore. They have enough faith in their music that they don't need new stuff to keep people entertained.
