well i see someone wanted a good musical debate and here i am to debate. i think i know my guitar so... "gimme your best shot" lol.
Picking up from last night...
Nothing personal, but I fail to see how Paul Griffith (sp?) from Mr Big/Racer X is a more talented guitarist than Clapton/Hendrix. I've heard various songs done by them & it doesn't amaze me. He can't even compare to the likenesses of Vai/Satriani/Yngwie, let alone the revolutionary guitarists. I don't think that displaying both electric & acoustic (as a lot of alternative bands did) makes you "s**ty" as you had quoted last night. Of course this is all based in my opinion, and not a fact, so if this makes me "insane" to your thread, then I will leave as I see I'm not welcome.

Many artists have covered this song over the past few years, everything from Rock to Pop to Rap. There was a recent song called Fame by a band known as Dust, it's a possibility, but I'm really not sure.
-
they sound like a mix between SRV and the Allman Brothers.
They do! with a bit of a Santana influence. I hope these guys wind up getting the credit they deserve, if they can keep their track in the rock circle.
-
another underrated guitarist i forgot about would have to be jerry cantrell of alice in chains.
He does a good job at both electric & acoustic. His work on Facelift followed by Dirt, IMO is his best, but I also like the Unplugged album.
-
A lot of New Wave from the 80's gets stuck in my head easily, such as Turning Japanese, Rock Me Amadeus, Tarzan Boy, etc. I've always tried to steer as far away from that type of music as possible so it doesn't repeat itself in my head over & over again. Whoever writes it though, does a good job at making something that sticks.

Half of this list is a joke anyways, I've always hated Spin's commentary & list ranking, but this one tops it.
I don't see how Korn is better than Pink Floyd,
Ramones more revolutionary than Led Zeppelin?,
or Rage higher than The Who?
I don't see how Fugazi or Pavement makes the cut, the same with Bad Brains.
Who has heard of Fela Kuti?
Who the hell remembers Blondie?
Iggy Pop & the Stooges didn't do enough for the top 20, CCR would've been much better up there.
Where is Bob Dylan, Elvis, James Brown, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha, Fleetwood Mac, Buddy Holly, Simon & Garfunkel, B.B. King, Smokey Robinson, etc etc.. it goes on & on. Obviously when they said "All-Time" what they really meant was last 30 years or so.

These guys are listed amongst the top 100 classic rock bands, they had a lot of radio air time with a few of their songs (like They Boys are Back in Town, Bad Reputation, & Jailbreak) They're a good band, even though I always thought of the late Phil Lynott as kind of a Jimi wannabee, but maybe not.

You can start a new thread with your thoughts if you'd like.
I would, but around 4/5 of the Top 20 threads on this forum are about Guitarists, I don't want to annoy anybody with another thread of the same topic LOL
-
I'm not sure who sings it, but I think Tenacious uses that for her siggy.
-
Hey, I'm looking for a thread from last night, It was titled something like "Calling all Sane Musicians" I had an answer prepared for the debate with the guy who started the thread. Is it still here or did it get deleted? ::
-
OK I'll delete the ones I don't need, & thank you for replying, I've been kinda waiting, wondering if I need to delete those, in case it blocks others from coming in
-
They're receiving mainstream credibility, I've seen the video for Heaven a few times on the local morning music video channel (61) here in Phoenix, they're pretty popular out here. They're a nice blend of bluesy Tex-Mex rock & worth the listen.

Better Man was written by Eddie Vedder when he was with a previous band called "Bad Radio".

Maria Wilson - Mr Alibi
It doesn't matter if you told me a lie
It doesn't matter just keep changing your alibi
It doesn't matter I don't care, as long as you leave me
I keep on walking down the same old street
I keep on seeing you with her where we used to meet
It doesn't matter anymore. as long as you leave me
As long as it's
Goodbye to Mr alibi
I'm tired of thinking that it's not only you and I
Goodbye, this is a lullaby
A simple song I dedicate to a love that died
You're always telling me I'm wrong when I'm right
You're always saying that it's my turn tomorrow night
We'll you can promise me the world as long as you leave me
As long as it's
Goodbye to Mr Alibi
I?m tired of thinking that it's not only you and I
Goodbye, this is a lullaby
A simple song I dedicate to a love that died
Say Goodbye, Say Goodbye to Mr Alibi
Say Goodbye, Say Goodbye to Mr Alibi
Goodbye to Mr Alibi
I'm tired of thinking that it's not only you and I
Goodbye, this is a lullaby
A simple song I dedicate to a love that died
I don't care just keep changing your alibi.....

Bob Marley is another good one, most of his work up until Exodus, but the best IMO is Soul Rebels.
-
some good songs are Pull Me Under & Metropolis, if you can find those, they're good recommendations
-
Tybalt, I've seen most of those movies & I agree they're out of the ordinary & a must see for anybody who likes theatrical yet obscure movie plots.

I always thought the Arizona lifestyle had something to do with year-round golf. Or is that just some Camelot type view I have of all the states that don't experience a winter, Flagstaff excluded?
I think you summed it up just about right with that, but I live in a major city so there's your typical metro lifestyle, other than being too hot & filled with desert & mountain ranges everywhere. Being from the midwest originally, it takes a while to regulate to any other region in the United States, but that's what makes this country so unique from the others, is it's diversity of provincial divisions.

It's by Josh Kelley & the song is called Everybody Wants You
Lyrics:
You've been bad
You know you've been good
Did you lose your mind, like I knew you would
Did you sing your song
Did you sing it so loud
Did you sing it so everyone can hear in the crowd
Did you lose yourself
Did you lose your health
Did you put my memories on the shelf
Did you lose your place
Did you lose your grace
Just so everyone could see your singing face
Its like everybody loves you
and everybody wants you lately
Its like everybody needs you
and everybody sees you today
You've been sad
Your misunderstood
Did you find your kind,
Like i knew you would
Did you feel your song
Did you feel it so real
Did you feel it so everyone could see your grand appeal
Did you lose yourself
Did you lose your health
Did you put my memories on the shelf
Did you lose your place
Did you lose your grace
Just so everyone could see your singing face
Its like everybody loves you
and everybody wants you lately
Its like everybody needs you
and everybody sees you today
Today
If they would let me show
For the time we love
Time will say,
Keep the fun alive
and lead the way to our today
Did you lose yourself
Did you lose your health
Did you put my memories on the shelf
Did you lose your place
Did you lose your grace
Just so everyone could see your singing face
Its like everybody loves you
and everybody wants you lately
Its like everybody needs you
and everybody sees you today
Its like everybody loves you
and everybody wants you lately
Its like everybody needs you
and everybody sees you today
Today

Flo never really tried to assimilate into the Arizona lifestyle did she?
There's a lifestyle here?? I sure would like to know what it's about, as long as it doesn't involve heatwaves & being stranded in the desert.

Hey Batman, if you love reading lists (which I do too, if they're official enough) then check out the GuitarWorld's 100 Greatest Solo's list. I posted it at the very bottom of This Thread & can also be found in more detail at This Site

you know what I don't like? This is a small problem, because I just fastforward through it, but I don't like the 2:30 beginning to "Time" by pink floyd. just clocks and tom toms and droning guitar.
That's all a part of what made it such a classic, & gave the song it's distinction.
The song would be much different without the lengthy adapted intro.
