Does uh Slash's Snakepit count as solo for Slash?...(after a bit of research) no i guess not
I meant it as Solo or Projects(side bands) so yeah it would count, I could list about 20 different artists (of different genres) that went on to their own that were either good or bad.
-
1.) Jim Morrison
2.) Jimi Hendrix
3.) Bob Marley
4.) Frank Zappa
5.) Layne Staley
1.) Robert Plant
2.) David Gilmour
3.) Jimmy Page
4.) Slash
5.) Trent Reznor

Just about any band I've listened to enough of I can recognize on the first instance, but I usually know most of their songs as it is. One band I can't tell when I hear them is Jet. They're intros copy just about anything else that was previously written, I like the idea they have behind their style, but it's a blatant rip-off IMO.

Your youth is important, & something to be pleased with LOL
You listed most of the good bands from back in the 70's, there's a few other's that are equally as good, such as Rush, Steppenwolf, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, etc.
A good place to listen to music is Launch.com where you can select what bands you like & they play them in a radio station format for you. The connection can be a problem, if it starts going through buffering mode to download the song, but it's worth a listen.

What singers from good bands, that have gone on to their own solo careers did you like & dislike?
I liked Ozzy after Black Sabbath, even though he wasn't as good. His solo career mostly focused on controversy outside of the music scene, then wounded up being displayed for commercial use of a reality TV show. I heard more talent coming from his guitarists than I did his mouth, even though he has that dark voice that gives the music it's depth.
Robert Plant went on to his own singing during the 80?s, which was nowhere near the innovative fusion that Zeppelin had created. He had a lot of good songs, such as Tall Cool One, Big Log, & Ship of Fools (a strong ballad) but also a lot of dubious content like the Picture at Eleven album, which showcased him as a completely different singer. Some songs like Worse than Detroit has some nice Guitar work, & Burning Down One Side, which seems to be about him trying to track down his lost love. The album was sufficiently good, but not really his style.

That was the name of their latest release, I checked into it & BarenakedLadies hasn't appeared on a movie soundtrack since 1999.
---edit---
I misunderstood, You were asking for movie appearances, not soundtracks, sorry about that
-
Well I meant Rock song that made it on the Pop Charts, there's a Mainstream Rock chart as well, but finding info about that is hard, even on the net.
For the Iron Butterfly album, it peaked at #4 on the Pop Albums charts in 1969, but I don't know how long it stayed for.
-
It looks like it only appeared on the 2003 release "Everything to Everyone" but I could be wrong about that ::

We have one Classic Rock station, one Hard Rock Station (70's through today), & one Current Rock station. The classic rock station, mostly specifies in playing Fleetwood Mac, Stones, & The Who along with occasional Zeppelin and Floyd (mostly the 5 main tracks from the wall) Anymore I find the Hard Rock station better than the Classic Rock station. Music has always sounded better to me while driving & usually I listen to CD's at home & the radio in the car.

"Back Where You Belong" by Foreigner. I LOVE this tune but oh how I wish they carried the outro for another 30 minutes or so. IMO, the best vocals on any Foreigner tune.
That's really in love with a song LOL I've heard a lot of songs that were typical 3 minute tracks, that I wouldn't have minded being about 10 times longer & I'd still listen all the way through. There's a lot of Jimi Hendrix songs that would be nice with a longer jam session. There's also a lot of Bob Marley that I could listen to for hours on end.
-
The answer was Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine, it's the only hard rock song that hit #1 on the Pop Charts in 1988.
If anybody has any trivia questions, preferably not able to be researched over the net... I'd like to try & guess.
-
They did an actual collaboration on a song called Alone, but it didn't appear on any album, & can only be found on the Internet. I've listened to it & it sounds like both bands performing.
-
(Hey Jude was once largest selling single record).
Does that still hold true?
I think the biggest selling single, to date is Elton John - Candle in the Wind, but I could be wrong about that.
-
There was a song by Glen Miller called Run Rabbit Run, a few others have done a song by the same title, such as Jinx, Bob Crosby, & Allen & Flannigan. But I couldn't find anything by Steve Miller.

Fifty first dates was terrible, as is any adam sandler movie besides Happy Gilimore and Billy Madison
I liked Airheads, to me it's the best movie he's been in, not his funniest performance, actually I think Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld) was the funniest one in that movie, but a few of Sandler's films were decent. Billy Madison grew old on me too quickly it seems, but that's because just after it came out, I would watch it once a week for 2 years straight.
With most SNLers, they will get lucky the first couple movies, then their egos get big and they write their own movies. Then they start to suck.It always happens, like you said about being lucky with the first couple movies. Bill Murray was able to stretch his career a little into the 90's with good films, like "What About Bob" & Groundhog Day. His latest films haven't been that great, I was completely bored by "Lost in Translation" The only funny part in that movie was with Mrs. Harris coming over & trying to seduce him.
Mike Myers is starting to slip, Dana Carvey never took off the way I hoped he would in movies. I wasn't impressed by Master of Disguise, he could've starred in a better role.
A lot of other SNL stars tried to do a movie & failed miserably, such as Al Franken (Stuart Smalley) & that lady who played Pat. Their movies were even stupider then their skits on SNL.
I hope this doesnt' happen with Will Fererel! It already is happening, IMO I never found him that funny to begin with, granted he's the best one on the show in the past 8 years.
-
I agree with you Scott, if that song were twice as long, it would be even better.
Thank You by Led Zeppelin could've had the second chorus repeated a few times, it's upsetting how they only sing that part once, it's a true beauty of a song.
-
What songs have a guitar solo, or just a rhythm section that you think should've been made longer to better fill in the song ?
-a few that I think so-
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills & Far Away
The Doors - The Crystal Ship (the organ piece in the middle)
Eagles - Hotel California (prominent solo at the end)
Rolling Stones - Honky Tonk Woman
Pink Floyd - Careful with that Axe Eugene! (it's a long enough instrumental as it is, but I really love this one)
Grateful Dead - Box of Rain
-
I thought I posted in this thread the other day ::
Anyways, they're a good band, not the most original, but still worth the listen. Bad Reputation is my favorite song.
:guitar:

I agree with David, it's for the best they weren't the media hype, & remained the underground part of the whole "Grunge Movement Mainstream"
Anybody ever heard the alone song they did with pearl jam??I had that on my comp, before I rebooted. It was a scratchy recording, but not a bad song. It sounds like a mix of the two bands.
-
Name the 1st band to have all 6* of their albums in the charts at once.
I'm pretty sure the answer to that is the Beatles, but I could be wrong.

I picked up the Velvet Revolver album Contraband, it's not bad, but no where near as good as the previous bands, it's mostly just a slightly harder version of STP. Weiland doesn't really cover any issues he hasn't before, and Completely lacks the same arrogance that Axl professed. My favorite tracks are Headspace, Dirty Little Thing, & Spectacle.

I really hate anything Ashton Kutcher is in,
The Butterfly Effect was really good, probably one of the best this year. He goes back in time & keeps changing these events that happened to him, & it gets him in trouble. The ending was hard to understand, but I should've paid more attention. I don't want to ruin it for anybody though.

I'm surprised American Pie by Don McLean hasn't been mentioned in this thread.
A long, long time ago,
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance,
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver,
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep,
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died
*Chorus*
So bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey in Rye
Singing this will be the day that I die,
This will be the day that I die
Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Now, do you believe in rock and roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes,
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues!
I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew that I was out of luck
The day the music died
I started singing
*Chorus*
Now for ten years we've been on our own,
And moss grows fat on a Rolling Stone
But that's not how it used to be
When The Jester sang for The King and Queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
In a voice that came from you and me
And while The King was looking down,
The Jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned,
No verdict was returned
And while Lennon read a book on Marx,
The quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
We were singing
*Chorus*
Helter Skelter in a summer swelter
The Byrds flew off with a fall out shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With The Jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now, the halftime air was sweet perfume
While The Sargeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield!
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
We started singing
*Chorus*
Oh, and there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on Jack be nimble,
Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candle stick
Because fire is the devil's only friend
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan's spell
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singing
*Chorus*
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news...
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
And they were singing
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey in Rye
Singin' this will be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
They were singin'
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey in Rye
Singing this will be the day that I die...
Best & Worst Solo Projects ?

Yeah, but is that one of the best or worst LOL
I liked them, or a few of their songs, mostly off the debut album, I didn't care much for Pat Smear though, he didn't belong in Nirvana IMO
