  1. Oh Man! I know this thread could have survived for the last 35 years...

    ;)

About the same time a lid went from $10 to $15 ("it's from Columbia, not Mexico" was the usual response)... concert ticket prices soon followed...

  2. My screen name obviously comes from BB(blues boy)King, one of the greats of the modern blues era (especially his '50s tracks)... I just love '50s and 60's blues and R&B... :guitar: :afro: :elvis:

Edit time... why not expand it to 10 or 12 hours (for a trial period, say 10 days) and see how it goes... :)

  3. I grew up in jr high and high school orchestra during the mid - late '60's. All we played were musicals and popular songs from the '50s and '60s.

    I remember...

    West Side Story

    South Pacific

    My Fair Lady

    Sound of Music

    Cabaret

    Oklahoma

    Kismet

    Annie Get You Gun

    Showboat

    among others... :)

what a golden age for musicals

  4. Lead guitarist - Hendrix

Rhythm guitarist - Stevie Ray Vaughan

    Acoustic guitarist - Al DiMeola

Bassist - John Entwhistle or Jack Casady ( Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna )

    Percussionist - Lenny White

    Keyboards - Keith Emerson

    Lead Vocals - Otis Redding

Horn section - the Memphis Horns

  5. I also have about 2800 songs, about 2000 from kazaa and the rest from my cd library. But everything is predominantly pre 1980, mostly 50's and 60's.

Cindy, I too had a symbolic first download on the old Napster. Years and years of looking for a song from 2 out of print albums (4 Deuces - W.P.L.J. ) took 10 seconds to download. After that I was hooked.

Way back when, upgrading from cassettes, my symbolic first buy cd was Electric Ladyland / Hendrix.

  6. How about a band already built.

    Chick Corea - keyboards

    Al DiMeola - guitar

    Stanley Clarke - bass

    Lenny White - drums

A true jazz fusion super group, put out a couple of albums

('75-'76), then all went on to successful solo careers.

  7. i always thought that the introductions to Let It Rain by Eric Clapton and I't Don't Come Easy by Ringo Starr sounded similar but only a few people that i have pointed it out to agree with me.

    boy, your right...

the tempo the same, the intro's are very similar, we should ask Bobo if they're in the same key...

    way to go sherlock...

  8. I've heard that Jazz is the only music that originated in America. Would blues be considered a branch of jazz? or do you know where blues originated?

In a nutshell, blues mostly features simple 3-chord progressions. It grew out of African spirituals and worksongs of the Southern U.S. Blues is the forefather of Jazz. Jazz is like a son or nephew of the blues. Both originated here in the U.S.
