  1. Journey's "Loving Touching Squeezing" is a pretty bad song to begin with, but if they cut it at about 2 minutes 30, it might be stomachable. But when they stretch it out at the end with that "na na na na na na na na na na na na na na, etc, etc, etc", I wanna grab Perry by the throat like a chicken and make him stop that cackling.

  2. You know, I really miss those Spice Girls..wish they would make a comeback!!!

Hey, now you're getting personal! Lay off the Spice Girls. They had nearly as much talent as New Kids on the Block...nearly. I mean, no other group should even be mentioned in the same sentence with NKOTB. I apologize to Joey and Donnie and Trevor and Justin and whatever the hell their names are.

  3. A few of my favorites are:

"Never Been Any Reason" by Head East

"Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire

"People Who Died" by the Jim Carroll Band

    "Turning Japanese" by the Vapors

    "Fantasy" by Aldo Nova

"Nonstop to Nowhere" by Faster Pussycat (they actually had a couple more that were pretty good).

  4. I couldn't let this topic get away without adding four more super-wicked intros - 2 from Foreigner and 2 from Alice.

    Foreigner

"Long Long Way From Home" and "Blue Morning Blue Day"

    Alice Cooper

"Ballad of Dwight Fry" and "Billion Dollar Babies"

  5. I remember Corky and the Juicepigs. They were on MAD TV a lot a few years ago. Actually, I was just thinking about them yesterday when I was watching a rerun on Comedy Central. They reminded me a lot of the Violent Femmes who, in their own right, had some pretty funny songs. Whatever happened to those Juicepigs? I haven't seen or heard from them in a while. Are they still alive? They were funny!

    Loved the Gay Eskimo song.

  6. You gotta love Warren Zevon's tunes. Just about anything he does, he tries to make it seem serious yet comical, and you can't help but laugh at the lyrics. Some of my favorites are "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", "Excitable Boy", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Play It All Night Long", "Werewolves of London", and "Boom Boom Mancini".

  7. Daniel, since you're only 13, you should be in bed by 9:00 and should have the headphones on, under the covers, listening to Side 1 of "Saturation" by Urge Overkill. You'll love all six songs. (My favorites are "Sister Havana", "Woman 2 Woman", and "Back On Me".) Side 2's not too bad, either.

When you reach 14, it should be either "Let It Bleed" or "Sticky Fingers" by the Stones, or "Physical Graffiti" by Led Zep. By then, you should be able to stay up until 11:00. Tell your parents I said so.

When you reach 15: "Give the People What They Want" by the Kinks.

    Good luck, and rock on.

  8. " Smoke on the water" isn't great, merely very familiar.

And we all know what familiarity breeds, don't we?

I believe what Denmark is trying to say is that "Smoke on the Water" isn't necessarily any great guitar work, just a few good notes strung together. However, to rebut, what makes it a great intro IS its familiarity; you know what song's coming behind those few good notes. But I think Deep Purple has several great intros, including "Highway Star", "Bananas", "Burn", and my personal favorite "Knocking at Your Back Door".........."Sweeeeeet Lucy was a dancer, but none of us would chance her, because she was a Samurai."

A lot of Deep Purple's stuff sounds very much alike, though, and reminds me a lot of many of the new bands...decent musicians but need some help with their writing; everything sounds too much alike. (Ex. Matchbox 20, Offspring, and the most offensive - Nickleback).

I would also like to add a few memorable intros from a nearly forgotten band - Jefferson Starship. Who could forget that great piano intro to "Jane", the great bass intro to "Stranger", and the great guitar intro to "Ride the Tiger"?

    Rock on, e'brybody!!

  9. I voted for Zep IV, but only because there were no Stones albums (Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed) on the list, and because Zep II and Physical Graffiti weren't there either. And it's hard to leave "Who's Next" off the list. Good poll, though.

And two great, great albums that don't get the recognition they deserve are Cooper's "Love It To Death" and Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars".
