  1. My votes for Top Ten # 9 are :

    1. Sound Of Silence, The - Simon & Garfunkel

    2. I Have A Dream - ABBA

    3. More Than I Can Say - Leo Sayer

    4. Cracklin Rosie - Neil Diamond

    5. My Way - Frank Sinatra

    6. Nights In White Satin - The Moody Blues

    7. La Bamba - Ritchie Valens

    8. Seven Spanish Angels - Willie Nelson & Ray Charles

    9. Fire And Rain - James Taylor

    10. Both Sides Now - Judy Collins

  2. I have quite a few songs in my collection which have a spoken part. They do add a certain something to the song, though I can't quite put my finger on it.

I think some songs just cannot do without a spoken part, e.g. "The cost of my love" (a mother to her little boy - sorry I need help here with the artist's name).

As for songs which are spoken in their entirety, I would say these are recitations, not songs.

  3. My votes for Top Ten # 8 :

    1. If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body - The Bellamy Brothers

    2. Reflections Of My Life - Marmalade

    3. Crying - Roy Orbison

    4. Happy Together - The Turtles

    5. No Milk Today - Herman's Hermits

    6. A Whiter Shade OF Pale - Procul Harum

    7. He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones

    8. Ain't Too Proud To Beg - The Temptations

    9. You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - The Righteous Brothers

    10. The Cover Of Rolling Stone - Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show

  4. Thanks Brad. No, I have not heard "Suddenly there's a Valley".

The Golden Oldies are really hard to come by. My participation in this thread is mainly based on what I used to hear on the radio as a kid, not from my record collections. Often my voting is based on Artist if I have not heard the song, other times I recognise the title, but looking at the Artist's name, wonder if it is the same song at the back of my head.

Old55, Thanks for your info too.

  5. Sorry, I'm doing it again - Re-opening an old thread. The Rock Era is too good to pass up.

I think I scored 50% or better for each of the three years listed without talking to Mom, Dad or any of my Grandparents ! (All six are six feet under).

My pick of favourites from the three years are:

 Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White – (Forget who the vocal artist is)

 Sixteen Tons – (Wish I had a whole CD of Tennessee Ernie Ford)

 Singing the Blues – (I like the voice quality and easy style of Guy Mitchell)

 Wayward Wind – (Not sure I heard other songs by Gogi Grant)

 Wake Up Little Susie – (The Everly Brothers are my 'anytime' favourites)

Not in the lists, but Paul Anka's Diana & Papa are my all time favourites too.

What happened to Pat Boone's Bernardine. Did'nt it make the charts? Or was that another year?

  6. As long as the youth (and some of the older) do drugs rapp will stay alive. I am inclined to believe rapp singers and rapp listeners are stoned to some degree.

I coould be wrong. This is just one man's personal opinion. To my mind rapp is crap, it can never be music in my dictionary.

It's my conviction that of all races, people of African origin are the ones with music in their blood, yet is it disheartening to note that most rappers are of the same origin

  7. MY Choice of the Top Ten :

    1. I'd love you to want me - LOBO

    2. More that I can say - VINCE GILL

    3. Room at the Top of The Stairs - EDDIE RABBIT

    4. Have you ever seen the rain - CCR

    5. Kentucky Rain - ELVIS

    6. Hurt - JOHNNY CASH

    7. Whole Lot of shaking going on - J L LEWIS

    8. Saturday Night's all right for fighting - ELTON JOHN

    9. Don't let go - ROY HAMILTON

    10. These arms of mine - OTIS REDDING

  8. Darryl, I fully agree with RT. I dont think you nor Val will need to be wheeled in to your godson's 21st birthday. I have a friend here in the Middle East. Her 90+ old dad, up and about, takes care of her bank work in her home town !! I am sure your niece will look forward to see you boogie for her son's 21st.

PS: Sorry, I think we are using this thread for a different purpose. I'll shut up now.
