  1. Was is just me, or did it look like the bronze medal winners were a lot more psyched than the silvers?

It's always like this... because of the perspective: the bronze medal winner always thinks "oh wow! just 1 second slower and I wouldn't have won anything... awesome :) "

while the silver medalist thinks "aw man... just 1 second faster and I could've had gold :( "

  2. Especially in sports which aren't that mainstream, the athletes often more or less busted their behinds for four years(!) just for this event.

I'll say they're (and their family, friends, coaches and fans) are allowed to be a bit happy if they're doing well, don't you think? ;)

  3. Okay, so I finally found the time to listen through everything and I have to say, even though I expected it, I would have like a bit more variety in the selections. It's basically 2 albums of gaming music (one orchestral and one with choirs etc) and 3 albums of nerdy / funny music (They Might Be Giants, Jonathan Coulton and MC Frontalot) + the remixes of OK Go songs as bonus.

Don't get me wrong, they're all quite enjoyable on their own, but a BIT other stuff might have been nice too...

but hey, all in all - 8 bucks and some change for 6 albums AND parts of it go to charity, that's still a good deal in my opinion. :)

  4. the opening ceremony was great, I agree... even though the German commentators could have been better as well.

I'm one of these people that could watch almost *any* sports in the Olympics - most of them you only get to see once every 4 years after all ;)

fencing is funny because it's MUCH too fast for me (btw, how much action it is greatly depends on whether you're watching foil, épée or sabre... I heard the comparison today that sabre is like a 100m sprint, while foil is like a 10000m run)

Also, from what I've seen until now, the audience in London seems to be very enthusiastic and very fair, cheering for the best AND for the last.

  5. It looks like they try to bundle together music that suits a particular taste.

yeah, it's got quite an indie/nerdy touch to it, but I guess it makes sense... bundling together six more or less well known artists from very different genres might discourage more people from purchasing it, eg if they know that they're not a fan of four of these genres...

the They Might Be Giants compilation is fun btw :D

haven't listened to more yet, but I'll let you know

  6. Introducing The Humble Music Bundle

A concept, that until now was mostly used for video games, is now also available for music.

The Humble Bundle in a nutshell:

There are five albums in the Bundle, buy them together for whatever price you're willing to pay - if it's more than the average (currently a bit over $8) then you'll get a bonus album with remixes from OK GO songs.

Additionally part of the money goes to a charity - and you can determine the rate of that as well

Download is available in MP3 or FLAC, of course DRM-free

  7. now here's a random thought for you:

"That’s a neat coincidence I’ve never noticed before— A cubic mile happens to be almost exactly 4×π×r^2 cubic kilometers, so a sphere with a radius of X kilometers has the same volume as a cube that’s X miles on each side."

  8. Would You Be Impressed? ~ Streetlight Manifesto (2007)

On the Sly ~ The Bamboos (2010)

    Danse Macabre ~ Camille Saint-Saëns (1875)

"According to legend, "Death" appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death calls forth the dead from their graves to dance their 'dance of death' (= "danse macabre") for him while he plays his fiddle (here represented by a solo violin). His skeletons dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year."
