  1. Hello, gang.

If anyone's interested, i have my own internet station.

    Here's the link:

    http://www.lala.com/frontend/action/whodadj?userToken=8489@13077&stationId=8489R112

It is mostly upbeat 80's music, although it's not your common mix you hear on most 80's stations. You will hear a lot of songs you haven't heard in years, and even some great lost songs that you may never have heard at all.

    I hope you enjoy it.

    Comments/criticizms are welcomed. Enjoy.

  2. Ok. these are NOT songs that I nessessarily like, but ones that I get many requests for when I DJ weddings.

    Celebration

    Oh What A Night(Dec. 63)

    Some Kind Of Wonderful

    Paradise By The Dashboard Light

    Dancing Queen

    I Will Survive

    Cha Cha Slide

    Hot In Here- Nelly

    Yeah- Usher

    Brick House

    Play That Funky Music.

There are more, of course, but those will get the party started.

  3. Rock Lobster- B-52's

    Cars- Gary Numan

    Tainted Love- Soft Cell

Come On, Eileen- Dexy's Midnight Runners

Sweet Dreams (Are made of this)- Eurythmics

    Hold Me Now- Thompson Twins

    Der Komissar- After The Fire

    Take On Me- Ah-Ha

I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight- Cutting Crew

    Beds Are Burning- Midnight Oil

    (no googling)

Nice! You've come the closest. You only have Der Komissar and Take On Me switched. Good job.

  4. Ok, the following songs were released in different years from 1979 to 1988.

There are no "trick" listings, IE one released in Dec. of 81 and another released in Jan. of 82. They are all almost an entire year apart.

This will be easy if you search the internet, so give it a try solely relying on memory.

I'll put them in the correct order in a day or two.

    (alphabetically)

    Beds Are Burning- Midnight Oil

    Cars- Gary Numan

Come On, Eileen- Dexy's Midnight Runners

    Der Komissar- After The Fire

    Hold Me Now- Thompson Twins

I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight- Cutting Crew

    Rock Lobster- B-52's

Sweet Dreams (Are made of this)- Eurythmics

    Take On Me- Ah-Ha

    Tainted Love- Soft Cell

    Good luck

  5. Is anyone here from the U.K.?

I noticed that Out of the Blue from ELO was in the top fifty in current album sales, and was 18th last week.

It is common, here in the US, for greatest hits albums of older groups to make an occasional run up the charts, but Out of the Blue is a studio album from the seventies.

Can anyone explain why it is making a run over there, nearly thirty years after it's release?

  6. Noone knows?? I still can't find it!!

Check out my earlier answer, Montego Bay by Bobby Bloom.

It has a reggae-like beat throughout the song, but at the end, it slows way down and he sings, "Oh what a beautiful morning. Oh what a beautiful day. I got a beautiful feeling, everyrthing's going my way"

Here's the file. Let us know if this is it.

  7. Here is the spoken-word part to one of the corniest songs of all-time, "I've Never Been To Me" by Charlene:

Hey, you know what paradise is?

    It's a lie

a fantasy we created about people and places

as we like them to be

but you know what truth is?

it's that little baby you're holding

and it's that man you fought with this morning

the same one you are gonna make love to tonight

    that's truth that's love

  8. I knew this topic would elicit a debate over what is new wave or not. It's always fun watching people try to classify different groups.

To me, the heavy use of synthesizers always signified the new wave movement. Problem with that was that you had groups like the Police, Blondie, and Elvis Costello who were practically unclassifiable. One song would sound punk and the next would be disco or new wave.

Some groups, like Depeche Mode, The Psychadelic Furs, New Order, ect. were definitely new wave, while others, like Howard Jones, The Hooters, or Simple Minds, were pop or rock bands that added some new wave characteristics.

Personally, I hate pigeon-holing a group into a certain niche. I have a very, very broad definition of new wave. I tend to look at much of the music from 79-83 as new wave.

  9. I agree with all the opinions here. LRB was a decent band. They were definitely a "singles" band, however. I purchased three or four of their albums, back in the day, and Sleeper/Catcher was the only one I would that was enjoyable all the way through.

There was, however, no denying their ability to pen a great hook and sing superb harmonies.

"Lady" was the first song I ever sang in front of an audience. It was for a high school talent show. lol

The Other Guy and Cool Change were also favorites.

  10. Here is a video to a great song from late '79/early '80.

I'm not sure how popular this song was, worldwide, but I loved it back in the day.

They actually made this video themselves, compiling and mixing video-clips from them on American Bandstand and other shows, and mixing in more recent footage.

Check out the awesome amount of energy these guys had on stage, especially the keyboardist. I get tired just watching him jump around.

    Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHRfyG48yn4

  11. Junior you don't sound dated, I am near your age. And I pretty much listen to music from the 60's, 70's, and very early 80's. I can't believe it has been so long since I have listened to the album. Funny how some you just forget about some albums.

Have you kept all your old albums? I, too, had that album at one time. I have no idea what happened to half of my old stuff. I have tons and tons of 70's and 80's mp3s. Maybe I have something you need. If you like, I can email you a Word document with my songs on it.
