Ombre Vivante
"Loveholic" "Rainy Day" http://youtube.com/watch?v=5v_nS7rJ0sU Maybe it's the novelty of hearing Pop Rock in another language, but I think it sounds alright (and I'm sure anyone in the know could name 10 Japanese bands and artists off the top of their heads who have done it much better). But one also has to understand that the biggest music performers and artists in Korea are predominantly Boy groups (Big Bang), Girl groups (Wonder Girls), and (ugh) modern R&B (Rain and Se7en) and Rap (Tasha) - for the most part, really horrible music without any redeeming value past the moment they're heard. It's a real shame (to mine ears) that this type of music doesn't rank as high as it should.
Ombre Vivante
Instead of creating a new topic, I'll just post it here. Lately, I've been listening to more and more of these Pop groups. I think they're good. I can listen to most of their albums from beginning to end without skipping tracks. Check this out: Clazziquai Project: they sound very sleek and polished. Their songs range from Bossa Nova and Easy Listening to Pop and Electronica. If you've heard LCD Sound System, Thievery Corporation, and Stan Getz, you might like this group. Delispice: this is Korea's answer to Wuss Rock. All those bands came to mind - Radiohead, Travis, Aqualung, and clodplay. I thought they were just cashing in on their popularity, but they've been around since the early 2000s. This song is from their 6th album (hard to find). Humming Urban Stereo: heavy Pop music with electronic undertones. To me, they sort of remind me of Air and Daft Punk... if they were high on pixie sticks and watched waaaay too many Hello Kitty cartoons. You might think the high-pitched girly vocals wouldn't work, but in this instance they sound good. http://youtube.com/watch?v=VAEAEcewUK8 Jaurim: I only have one album. I'd say from what I've heard, they're the slow, Adult Contemporary music that gets played late at night right in between Paul Hardcastle and Chris Botti, although they do, in fact, have Rock songs. Try. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuHBWPVBDR4 Rumble Fish: they're a Rock band with a dash of grrl pwr, but not so Alternative to be pared with the likes of Aimee Mann and PJ Harvey. I have one album and it was a mix of slow songs and couple of Rock songs, half upbeat and half downbeat. Probably not as good as the rest of the bands I've listed, but has potential to have more interesting stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp9jEKfbvno Toy: I just like the one song. I got the album and it has a couple of good songs, but I wasn't keen on listening to the rest. I actually skipped a few songs, which made me think whether the past stuff is better and he's losing his touch. When I saw this first I was interested in the versatility of this guy in introducing theremin sounds, guitars, and other junk. This is from his 6th album, so, hopefully, the early stuff is rife with catchy Pop tunes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm1MAxk0k8Q Wonderbird: this is a crazy Alterno band. The first thing that came to mind was old Ska bands. It does sound a bit like that to me. I don't own any of their albums 'cause they go outta print fast and to get a copy of one is like trying to smuggle something outta North Korea. Ombre Vivante
Monni: more Wuss Rock in tune with bands such as Travis. I like Travis, though, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Watch out for the high notes at the end
Ombre Vivante
Misty Blue: downbeat Pop a la Mazzy Star and Mono. I have no idea what she's sayin', but it sounds good enough to buy into it until I figure it out The song comes from a compilation of Pastel bands comprised of Indie Pop and Electronica from Korea and Japan. There's at least four good songs by the likes of Tearliner, Swinging Lollipop, and a few others. I shelled out about 13 bucks for it at yesasia (free shipping)

Ombre Vivante
W & Whale's "High School Sensation" I guess "W" stands for "weird," but it's a good kind of weird - offbeat and infectious sound with a look reminiscent of the early 80s (check out the black and red suits of the bandmates - straight outta Kraftwerk's Man-Machine 1979 daze!). Cute video.
Ombre Vivante
Three albums and a compilation later, Loveholic disbanded. The lead singer went on to a solo career. Well, they're back as Loveholics. They changed their Pop Rock sound to a full-on Pop and went with featured artists for their debut: "Miracle Blue" (as performed by Shin Min-Ah) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5f_YoRP9g4 2009 was a good year. Clazziquai Project also put out a new album. Thank God! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtOiYaD5O9U It may sound formulaic to some since they went the Electronic Pop route, but some of it is catchy
