  1. I am sorry, Katie for leaving out Australia, another good friend of the US :stars: They too deserve to be remembered.

    NEWS UPDATE:

I have heard on the radio that the US will now accept some of the offers of aid from other countries. It is believed that someone told W that he should get over himself and accept what we need. Their reasoning is that if we can help everyone else who asks in their time of need, who are we to saw that we are better than them and do not need their help when we have need?

  2. The Beatles was the first band I really got into, and it started with Meet The Beatles, the first album I ever bought. I love all of their phases. Even though I do not listen to them every day now, or even monthly for that matter, I still know the lyrics to just about every song that they recorded. They may not be my favorite now, but they will always be up there and they will always be "my first."

  3. I don't know about the BBC, but the news here played the heck out of the stampede in Iraq, and that there will be a 3 day mourning period.

On a side note, an Iraqi version of "Idol" is getting ready to kick off on Iraqi TV. There will be no studio audience (too dangerous) but there will be an Iraqi version of Simon, Paula and Randy!

  4. From The Chicago Tribune

NEW YORK -- Fats Domino was missing Thursday, days after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, said his longtime agent, Al Embry.

Embry told The Associated Press that he hadn't been able to contact Domino since talking to him Sunday evening by phone.

The 77-year-old R&B legend, whose real name is Antoine Domino, told Embry that he planned to stay at his New Orleans house with his wife, Rosemary, and their daughter.

"I hope somebody turns him up, but as of right now, we haven't got anybody that knows where he's at," said Embry, who has worked with Domino for 28 years. "I would think he might be safe because somebody said he was on top of the balcony."

Checquoline Davis, Domino's niece, posted a message on Craigslist.com Thursday pleading for information. Davis wrote that Domino, his wife, their children and grandchildren "didn't get out" of the second floor.

Domino, who has rarely appeared in public in recent years, has a home in the 9th ward, a low-lying area of the flooded city.

Getting information on possible missing persons has been nearly impossible as phone lines for hospitals and police haven't been working.

Domino has sold more than 110 million records in his long career, including the legendary singles "Blueberry Hill" and "Ain't That a Shame."

His 1950 recording of "The Fat Man" is sometimes called the first real rock 'n' roll record. He was among the first honorees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  5. I have been listening to the news a lot on the radio lately (I am a self admitted news junkie) and have heard that the following countries have offered help:

    Venezuela! (they were 1st...)

    Canada

    England

    Germany

    France

    Saudi Arabia

The thing that bugs me, but does not suprise me, is that the insurgent type people who we are having problems with in the mid east, have said that God had sent Hurricane Katrina. They even gave Katrina the rank of "Private" to Katrina in their Jihad Army. Whatever....

  7. Here is another one that always makes me think of my own mortality. I always thought that this would be a good song for my funeral if I cashed in at work.

    Knockin on Heaven's Door

Mama, take this badge off of me

    I can't use it anymore.

It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see

I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Mama, put my guns in the ground

    I can't shoot them anymore.

That long black cloud is comin' down

I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

I also like The Liberty Bell March, but that may be a little too bouncy.

  8. Paul, feel free to ask me questions anytime. That was good advice about leaving the job at the job. There will be times when it is hard to get something out of your mind, but find a way to do it! That has really helped me prevent developing the dreaded "us vs. them" mentality. That is not a good thing. I have been lucky, in that my personality makes it easy for me to relax. More than once, people that I have met were shocked to find out later that I am in law enforcement. I take it as a complement. I think the hardest time was the first few years after graduation from the academy. Those are the years where it becomes easy to get caught up in things when off duty because you are feeling invincible. Dont get caught in that trap!

As far as working in LA, well I have seen some things. Not as much as some, more than others, but it is hard to go 15 years without feeling every emotion. As I type to you now, I am working only 4 hr shifts behind a desk beacuse I was injured in a fight arresting a burglary suspect and I can not sit longer due to pain. Not the first time I have been hurt, but hopefully the last. Probably not, though. Another pearl of wisdom.....stay in shape. A 4 minute fight is a loooong fight without help. You will fair better if you are in good shape. Being in shape will also help you keep from being injured, or will help you recover if you do get injured. And in your career, you will be injured.

Thats it for now. I have some scheduling work to do :P

    Marc
