thank you everyone for your nice words. I will try not to complain too much about it but as you can imagine, I'm not in the best of moods.
Oh and not yet Dr. Rachel, I have my viva (oral exam) in a month, after that I will officially be Doctor of Philosophy

And?
hmm, I was thinking a mixture of starters so salad, grilled haloumi chesse, meatballs, maybe fava, generally very greek
then as a main, as I rarely eat meat, I would go for something like stuffed tomatoes with rice or possibly a mousaka (again with the greek theme)
I don't really cook desserts so I don't know about that, I could try and make halva, which is a semolina cake flavoured with cinnamon, but if I was playing it safe I would go for brownies or a fruit salad

I have a stupid PhD though, you know, what else do they want??? I sometimes wonder why I even bothered...
-
Im glad I'm not the only one, I think it's genius, I even thought about what I would cook!
-
you are sweet. I guess it's a bit of a domino effect everywhere, although the fact that I'm moving into a new industry isn't really helping either. how are you supposed to get experience when they always ask for experience?? bah!

thanks, I'm trying to stay optimistic, but every day that goes by, I get even more frustrated. I never thought it would take more than two months to find a job....
-
I like it too, I love the devil, it always makes me think of "twin peaks"
-
now that I spend a lot of time siting at home, I have way too many guilty pleasures. Diagnosis murder, murder she wrote (take me back to being a student), come dine with me, recipe for success, any property show

Rachel needs to post here!
you'd be glad to know I just did. I have plenty of free time now, what with looking for a job and all. sitting at home all day is great ....

I'm seeing them in April, really looking forward to it! it sold out ridiculously quickly

I think she is quite posh though because she lives in Harrow, that's why I assumed the accent was a bit fake. could be wrong
-
the foals are also supposed to be math rock, I really like what I've heard so far, especially balloons
here's the myspae page

we are scientists are alright, I have their first album but it's nothing amazing. I had the chance to listen to the new one when they were supporting the Kaiser Chiefs but got there too late and we missed it.
-
I think it's fake though, that's the problem!
-
I find her accent slightly irritating but I also like FOundations.

they are an english band fron newcastle, nominated for the mercury prize two years ago (I think) for their debut album "a certain trigger", which had hits like "Graffiti" and "apply some pressure". I saw them supporting the kaiser chiefs two years ago, they were pretty good so I bought the album, which is also pretty good. The song you posted is from the new album which I haven't bought, although I like the singles "girls with guitars" and "our velocity"
-
they are pretty good, bought the album and it has some really good songs (and some just ok).
-
I have "psychocandy" and another one which I can't remember, I bought them because I liked "cracking up". They are not bad, but I never got that into them
-
first cd: Bryan Adams "so far so good" (i was 12, don't judge)
last cd I bought: CSS "Cansei de ser sexy" and pigeon detectives "Wait for me"
Best Money spent: probably The DOors box set, it's got everything in a pretty box!
Biggest surprise: I think Franz Ferdinand "Franz Ferdinand", I only bought it because I kept seeing their poster and it turne dout to be amazing!
Most wanted at the moment: Editors "An end has a start"

I don't think I've heard any covers either, love the original

the 90s were defined by britpop, at least in europe, so I would say oasis, blur, suede and the like
and you have to acknowledge the smiths in the 80s, the kind of started the whole indie thing
-
interesting article. i often get confused about what indie really is to be honest. I thought it meant that that you had to be signed with an independent record label, but more than half the bands that are called indie are not. Then it gets even more confusing when snow patrol and coldplay are called indie, not just because they are signed with major labels, but because they don't have much to say! (although remember that snow patrol were around for ages before they became famous)

Yep, we were hoping to see him at the Imperial college party last week but he didn't turn up, he doesn't socialise much with the other PhD students

fava is ridiculously easy to make, you just rinse them and boil them for an hour (I think) and about half way through I add some onions. then when its reduced considerably and its all soft you blend it, add oil, salt pepper and serve with some chopped onions on top. It's basically like a dip
haloumi cheese is a cypriot cheese that is quite chewy and the benefit is that is stays solid while cooking so you can grill it like meat. it's delicious! i find it quite similar to paneer, if you've ever tried that
