I am glad to see that Del Shannon is respected by the songfactors. Reading about his suicide really shocked me. I don't know why, but sometimes things just make an impression on you, and I guess I found it hard to take that one so talented could feel so alone in this world.

The Australian government has donated $1 billion towards the victims of the tsunami disaster.
I think the fact that this devastation happened so close to my country has really hit home.
WAVE AID is a concert that is being organised to help benefit tsunami ravaged areas and will feature top Australian artists such as Powderfinger, Kasey Chambers, Missy Higgins, silverchair, Midnight Oil and the John Butler Trio among others.

I never knew Del Shannon committed suicide. I read about it at this website Fuller Up and I could just not believe it. This is a quote from the website:
"From the plethora of clean, American, post doo-wop male vocalists to find enormous success in the early '60s, only a small handful retained musical credibility. Shannon was undoubtedly from this pedigree... Ultimately however, he was branded to rock ?n? roll revival tours which finally took their toll on 8 February 1990, when a severely depressed Shannon pointed a .22 calibre rifle to his head and pulled the trigger, ending the misery echoed in his catalogue of hits."
No one even turned up to claim his remains.
God that is sad. It has really upset me.

Yeah, I am also ashamed of my lack of concert going experience. I have been to three, and they were all in 2004.
I saw Metallica, Kiss and The Eagles. I loved every minute of it, but I have the same prob as Foxy, I live about 200km from Sydney, where all the bands go when they are in Australia. So, it is a bit of a struggle to get there.

Doesn't Gene claim to have the photos to prove it?

oh, has to be The Beatles version of "Twist & Shout" originally by the Isley Brothers. Now that is a rockin song. John Lennon's voice sounds out of this world!

10 of my faves:

Destroyer - KISS
The Black Album - Metallica
A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles

A Night At The Opera - Queen
Desperado - The Eagles

I think 'Sad Song' by The Screaming Jets fits well into this category.
How about a sad song to help me get further down
So down like I'm drowning, so down like I'm dying
How about a sad song to pull the rug from under me
When I was okay, when I was sane, when I found my way
How about a warning when the body's already doused
And it's ready for burning too late to learn
How about a reunion when everybody's gone away
They don't want to see you
They don't want to find out that you're doing okay
Will you be the first one when things get me down
Will you be the first one to bring me around
Ressurect my sense of believing
Cause I sure could use the feeling
Got to get a handle, got to climb up another rung
I'm tired of being down, I don't want to drown
I'm gonna walk, gonna walk, like a walking time bomb
I don't want to go off, but I will if I'm forced to run
Will you be the first one when things get me down
Will you be the first one to bring me around
Resurrect my sense of believing
Cause I sure could use the feeling

I agree with japumpa "Fade To Black" by Metallica is a great song, also really depressing at the same time.
A song that gets me down is "The Flame" by Cheap Trick.

This is weird. I just finished watching "KISS - the second coming" on dvd and they showed a Dimebag in the audience at one of their concerts. Then I come on here and see this thread. RIP Dimebag.

I think addictedtoclassic is right. Earlier on in the episode, Homer asks Kid Rock if he could play something by Jefferson Starship. Anyways, you can find out exactly if you go here: Simpson's Episode Guide

No, it's not from Grease, the song is RECENT. It is a rock love song sung in the same style as Gavin DeGraw, Damien Rice, etc.

hey addictedtoclassic this is an excellent thread! When I read your list, I pretty much agreed with everything you said. I love all the artists you mentioned. They all had such an influence in so many different ways. ((I would also add David Bowie and KISS, glam rockers)).
edna, I agree with you too! Bob Seger IS pure rock. He is often overlooked though.
