  1. It is all in the The Rolling Stones Chronicle

1961-2008, in the database section (scroll down on first page to select sections).

    78: http://www.timeisonourside.com/chron1978.html

79: http://www.timeisonourside.com/chron1979.html . Warning: the 1979 page has the worst picture of Mick Jagger that has ever been taken....

  2. That's a great link! The facts database gave me the chance to verify my memories.

And yes, there it is, my first Stones concert:

"October 5-9, 1970: The Rolling Stones conclude their European Tour with more concerts in West

Germany - Frankfurt (for the first time) and Essen -, and their first performance in Amsterdam,

    The Netherlands."

The 7th one was two years ago.......

  3. I thought I had read in an interview in Mojo or Uncut, some 8,9 years ago, I can't dance is written against Michael Jackson.

I looked through my old copies, but didn't find the interview.

Online research suggests this notion is wrong. The song is against jeans models, says http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Can%27t_Dance .

Still, I'd like to collect some more titles of songs that were written against a specific person or group.

The Rolling Stones's Star star are Mick's impression of groupies, says your database.

Any news on "Suzy" mentioned in their Dead Flowers? The reference to Suzy Creamcheese in the comments is not very convincing.

  4. The Genesis song I can't dance was written to defame Michael Jackson, so I read in an interview with Phil Collins. The band really hated Michael at the time, the early nineties.

    I can't dance, I can't talk.

Only thing about me is the way I walk.

    I can't dance, I can't sing

Im just standing here selling everything.

I like the genre of defamatory songs, and I am interested in more examples of songs, written to expose or underline some persons nasty characteristics, behaviour, image or whatever.

You're so vain by Carly Simon is another example, although is is not entirely clear whom she wrote it for (my guess would be: Warren Beatty).

Does anybody know some more examples?

  5. The most impressive song describing a murder from the killer's view is Delia's gone, by the great Johnny Cash.

I find this his most morbid contribution to music!

    :jack:

    "Delia's Gone"

Delia, oh, Delia Delia all my life

If I hadn't have shot poor

Delia I'd have had her for my wife

Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

    I went up to Memphis

And I met Delia there Found her in her parlor

And I tied to her chair

Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

She was low down and trifling

And she was cold and mean

Kind of evil make me want to Grab my sub machine

Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

First time I shot her I shot her in the side

    Hard to watch her suffer

But with the second shot she died

Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

    But jailer, oh, jailer Jailer,

I can't sleep 'Cause all around my bedside

I hear the patter of Delia's feet

Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

    So if you woman's devilish

    You can let her run

Or you can bring her down and do her

    Like Delia got done

Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

  6. I received an explanantion for the 47 miles of barbed wire. It means he's been in jail a long time, walking outside in a courtyard surrounded by barbed wire for half an hour per day, at the most.

I started calculating how long he has been in jail: average dimensions of Louisiana courtyard, average time allowed in the open air in Louisiana jail, average speed of frustrated prisoner.....

Anybody any clue about the icewagon flew ?
