Apparently the German public thinks Japan will be the most successful underdogs. Since Australia have Brazil, Japan and Croatia in their pool, that gives us the challenge to prove them wrong. If we can draw 1-1 with Netherlands, we might be able to beat Japan and Croatia. Also, we have beaten Brazil in recent years.
Anyway, GO SOCCEROOS!
I simply couldn't help but quote my previous post to start this post off, after witnessing what was undoubtebly the greatest football match of all time. And I ain't exaggerating.
83 minutes into the game, I was expecting to log in here and complain senselessly about Japan being given the goal when the keeper was clearly obstructed. Now, after goals to Australia in the 84th, 89th and 92nd minutes of the game, I don't feel that I need to complain. We needed to prove the German public wrong, and we did.
Assuming we lose to Brazil, we just need to tie with Croatia, and that should be enough for us to qualify. However I recognise that tying with Croatia may prove to be difficult.

My nominations:
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
Losing My Touch - The Rolling Stones (Released in 2002, sung by Keith Richards. Won't make the ten but I just wanted to see how it would do).
Now, I have a proposition.
We are soon to compile our 16th Songfactors' Choice Top Ten. I think that once this top ten is complete it is the perfect time to start THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE ULTIMATE TOP TEN, to be completed over the next few weeks as well as the usual top tens.
It works as follows. First, we vote on our top ten favourite songs from the Songfactors' Choice Top Tens 1-4, then 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16. Once the top tens from these lists are complete, we vote on our top ten favourite songs from those four top tens to create the ultimate top ten.
So, should we do this or do you have any objections? If anyone has already thought of this, I apologise for accidentally reading your mind.
PS. Unfortunately I will not be able to organise this, so someone else will have to volunteer.

1. My Humps - Black Eyed Peas (after much thought, I have decided this is indeed the worst song of all time, narrowly beating 50 Cent's "In Da Club", which I didn't nominate because I didn't want to nominate any rap songs).
2. Macarena - Los Del Rio
3. Wannabe - Spice Girls
4. Can't Get You Out Of My Head - Kylie Minogue
5. Who Let The Dogs Out - The Baha Men
6. Candy Shop - 50 Cent
7. Gasolina - Daddy Yankee
8. Beep - The Pussycat Dolls
9. Check On It - Beyonce feat. Slim Thug (monotone chorus = GENIUS!)
10. Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani

I think if you pronounced Motörhead with the umlaut, it would still sound the same. Obviously the same can't be said for the other two.
I don't know why they do it. Maybe it's a joke regarding how Led Zeppelin docked the 'a' so people would pronounce their name right, so now these bands are making people pronounce their names wrong instead.
Actually, forget what I just said, see this link instead.
Note the part about Spinal Tap. I thought maybe they should have been more creative and called themselves Å Ïïňäĺ Å¤Ã¤Ï or something like that.

Wow, my nomination LARS was equal second, and just four points off first. I guess it's unsurprising, being Rolling Stone magazine's greatest song of all time (The Rolling Stones were at number two with Satisfaction. That magazine must be really fascinated with rolling stones).
This must be the closest top four we have ever had - any one other person who voted could have completely changed the order of the top four.
-
This three thumbs down thing isn't going to work. It's going to take too long.

Revolution #9 -
Don't Worry Be Happy -
My Humps -
(It deserves every one of these, and more)
-
1. Innuendo - Queen
2. Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream
3. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
4. Substitute - The Who
5. Cocaine- Eric Clapton
6. Great Gig In The Sky - Pink Floyd
7. Red House - Jimi Hendrix
8. Zombie - The Cranberries
9. Venus - Shocking Blue
10. Way, The - Fastball

For my eight more...
Enter Sandman-Metallica
A Horse With No Name-America
Riders On The Storm-The Doors
Flash-Queen
More Than A Feeling-Boston
Dust In The Wind-Kansas
Higher-Creed
Kryptonite-3 Doors Down
Yeah I have a feeling that I'm going to be ran out of here soon.
I like pretty much all of those.
I'll try to find eight more (I'm not sure if these have been nominated yet):
Stickwitu - The Pussycat Dolls (We already have nominated two of their first three singles, so I decided I might as well put the other one in)
Check On It - Beyonce Featuring Slim Thug
Wannabe - The Spice Girls (Has anyone nominated the Spice Girls yet, or have you just forgotten them because of how crap they were?)
Under The Bridge - All Saints (one of the worst covers ever)
These Boots Are Made For Walking - Jessica Simpson (ditto)
Rich Girl - Gwen Stefani Featuring Eve
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega
-
You're right - The Church is one I forgot, as well as Hoodoo Gurus, Paul Kelly and Hunters And Collectors.
-
Down Under has already made the top ten (the song title is "Down Under", which is probably why you didn't see it), so you'll have to nominate another one das.
My nominations:
Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
Innuendo - Queen
-
Hmm, it seems that some hip-hop songs have been nominated, but I think that's okay. Every genre should get equal representation on this list.
I don't care if it means I'm unaustralian, I simply dislike almost every song Kylie Minogue has ever recorded.

We had a T.V. Special some months ago that counted down what the "experts" considered to be the greatest Aussie songs of all time. Friday On My Mind/ The Easybeats was #1, which is fair enough. My pick "Eagle Rock"/ Daddy Cool was #3. What was #2 again Katie ? Was it "Down Under" / Men At Work ?
Yes, I'm pretty sure "Down Under" was number 2 on the 20 to 1 countdown.
Allow me to list my top five favourite Australian artists/bands in order:
1. Cold Chisel - A great 70s/80s rock band that simply were no where near as popular overseas as they deserved to be.
2. Powderfinger - In my opinion, they are EASILY the best musical act in the world right now (judging on current material).
3. AC/DC
4. INXS
5. Jet - Sure, they have only released one album, but it is one of my favourite albums ever. Get Born is a simply fantastic album for any rock fans.
Others that deserve mention, in no particular order (I'm sure I'll forget some) :
John Farnham
The Easybeats
Pete Murray
Crowded House/Split Enz/Finn Brothers (if they can be considered Australian)
The Bee Gees (ditto)
Sherbet
Wolfmother
Men At Work
Daddy Cool
Mondo Rock
Okay, I've obviously forgotten heaps, but I'll come back to this later.
-
I was kind of hoping we would do this, but I thought we should only do this once and put all the worst songs of all time in the one list.
My nominations:
Can't Get You Out Of My Head - Kylie Minogue
I'm A Slave 4 U - Britney Spears
The songs I hate are pretty much limited to crappy pop, like the above songs, and rap and hip hop.
-
Interesting...I wouldn't have expected Definitely Maybe to beat (What's The Story) Morning Glory in a poll, but then again Noel Gallagher always said that Definitely Maybe was their best album. On the other hand, why would I listen the opinions of one of the Gallagher brothers?
-
I keep on nominating older songs thinking they'll get more votes, then one of my favourite songs, November Rain, makes the top ten even though it was released in the 90s. I'll have to keep thinking harder - I've only made the top ten one week out of seven I have nominated so far. I thought either Good Times Bad Times or The Kids Are Alright should have made the ten, but both missed out by less than ten points.
-
You probably didn't notice, but I actually put "If You Leave Me Now" at No. 10 on my list. My parents have Chicago's Greatest Hits, so whenever one of their songs gets nominated, I'll have a listen to it. Try nominating "Hard For Me To Say I'm Sorry". Maybe I'll nominate it sometime. I also like "25 or 6 to 4", but of course that has made the top ten already.
-
1. November Rain - Guns N' Roses
2. Good Times Bad Times - Led Zeppelin
3. Kids Are Alright, The - The Who
4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles
5. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix
6. No Rain - Blind Melon
7. Learn To Fly - Foo Fighters
8. More Than A Feeling - Boston
9. Dancing In The Dark - Bruce Springsteen
10. If You Leave Me Now - Chicago
I think this list has exposed my youth and inexperience - most people are saying what a tough field this is, but I haven't heard of most of the other songs that have been nominated.
-
I think those CDs may have been the first ones I saw with "Explicit Lyrics" warnings - and they were probably pretty tame by today's standards.
I noticed that warning on GN'R's Greatest Hits, but for the longest time I couldn't find any expletives, until I heard the one in the spoken part of "Knocking On Heaven's Door".

Voodoo Chile(Slight Return)-Jimi Hendrix
November Rain-Guns N Roses
Arrgh, you got your revenge, you stole both of my nominations!
Nah, just kidding, but great songs though. . I seriously doubt that anything will stop me from putting November Rain at No. 1.
Also, I assume you mean Voodoo Child (Slight Return), since I don't think Voodoo Chile has the (Slight Return) at the end.
My nominations are both songs that are a kind of similar style to The Beatles:
Good Times Bad Times - Led Zeppelin
The Kids Are Alright - The Who
-
Despite my best efforts with Start Me Up, we still got another top ten entirely from 1960-1975. I'll have to keep trying.
-
Perhaps we should make a list of prohibited nominations. My suggestions:
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones
Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Hotel California - The Eagles
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
I don't think any of the other regular top tenners are likely to make no. 1 on our list though.
-
1. Start Me Up - The Rolling Stones
2. Civil War - Guns N' Roses
3. Louie Louie - The Kingsmen
4. House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
5. Killer Queen - Queen
6. You're So Vain - Carly Simon
7. You Oughta Know - Alanis Morissette
8. I Feel The Earth Move - Carole King
9. Killing Me Softly With His Song - Roberta Flack
10. Rock Me Amadeus - Falco

Could this be our first 90s number one? We'll see.
