Wow, that game was pretty much over after 12 minutes. Gut gemachten Deutschland, und viel Glück für die restlichen Finale!
(I bet the above sentence doesn't make any sense - blame the translator. Another website told me to say "Brunnen getanes Deutschland und gutes Glück für den Rest der Endrunden", so I have no idea which one is more accurate. Anyway, what I typed in was "Well done Germany, and good luck for the rest of the finals").

Alive ~ Pearl Jam (possibly my favourite Pearl Jam song)
Since I see there are a few Pearl Jam fans here, I knew it was only a matter of time before this, definitely one of the greatest songs of the 90s, was nominated. I hope it makes the ten, and it will probably be number 1 on my list. Just as a matter of interest, one of Perth's local radio stations (96fm) has occasional greatest songs of all time countdowns, and Alive usually makes the top ten.
My nominations:
S.W.L.A.B.R. (She Walks Like A Bearded Rainbow) - Cream
Sorrow - Pink Floyd
-
1992
Always take the Weather with you ~ Crowded House
1993"I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)" - The Proclaimers
Interesting... I always thought these were both 80s songs.
1999
Smooth - Santana featuring Rob Thomas

I did think of the "rap-rock" catergory, but it seems they are usually considered "alternative". I think alternative is too broad a catergory, and there should be some kind of specialised catergory for these kind of bands.
*waits for someone to say Linkin Park should be classified under the "Crap" catergory, even though I disagree with this.*

After this morning's (morning over here in Australia) poor officiating, I feel I must remind everyone of Australia's bad luck:
Against Japan: Japan's goal was allowed after the goalkeeper was basically tackled.
Against Brazil: Australia were fouled 25 times to Brazil's 9 (and I certainly didn't think the difference was anywhere near that big), and the final whistle was blown about 30 seconds early when Australia had a chance of a goal.
Against Croatia: Croatian defender was not penalised for rugby tackling Viduka in the penalty area, another Croatian defender was not penalised for intentional and obvious handball in the penalty area, Simunic received two yellow cards and wasn't sent off (and was finally red carded - after the game was over).
After all this, we still made the finals. We must be the best team in the world .

I have exactly the same problem. I also have been unable to open any facts pages, even after several tries. I use IE6, and the error message says "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://..., Operation aborted".

1987
Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
My birth year.
-
1. Wonderwall - Oasis
2. Come As You Are - Nirvana
3. My Immortal - Evanscence
4. Immortality - Pearl Jam
5. Street Spirit - Radiohead
6. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye
7. Riders On The Storm - The Doors
8. Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
9. Not A Second Time - The Beatles
10. Son Of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield
That must be the first time I have put 90s and 00s songs only in the top five.

Every team has now played 2 games, and these teams are already guaranteed to qualify for the finals:
Germany (Glückwünsche!)
Ecuador (Felicitaciones!)
England (Congratulations!)
Argentina (Felicitaciones again!)
Netherlands (Gelukwensen!)
Portugal (Felicitações!)
Brazil (Felicitações again!)
Spain (Felicitaciones yet again!)
I hope my translator is reliable. Fortunately the translation was easy since more than half speak Spanish or Portuguese.

"Firestarter" - The Prodigy
"Brass In Pocket" - The Pretenders
Brass In Pocket has already made the top ten, so you will have to renominate. I haven't checked yet, but I think Firestarter hasn't .

It's good to see everyone agrees that Australia did pretty well against Brazil. At least the scoreline didn't matter - unless Japan beat Brazil 3-0 or more (which is almost certainly going to happen ), Australia will qualify if they draw with or beat Croatia, but will not qualify if they lose, regardless of the scoreline.

Hmm, is there even such a thing as an obscure Beatles song? It looks like Not A Second Time will get a fair few votes, but maybe Free As A Bird would get less.
-
Australia plays Brazil on Sunday. I originally assumed Brazil would win, but I have changed my mind. Now I KNOW Australia will win.

1972: Layla - Derek And The Dominoes

I got a Rolling Stones song (Losing My Touch) to receive zero points last week! Now I'll see how many I'll get for my obscure (I think) Beatles track this week.
I see some great 90s songs already (I love Wonderwall, Come As You Are and Streetspirit), so I'll add one also:
Not A Second Time - The Beatles
Immortality - Pearl Jam
-
Kashmir came second this week ( ), and I got equal second last week also. I promise I won't try to get the number one next week.
For a second I thought CCR just joined The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel to be the third act with three number ones, but then I noticed Have You Ever Seen The Rain only made number 2. Still, I hope no one nominates Bad Moon Rising, Down On The Corner etc anytime soon. Same goes with The Beatles, Stones and S+G, but feel free to nominate any obscure tracks from these artists.

I love this statement...
Same. There is way too much of it these days.
-
I'm happy to see that most of the songs I like didn't get many votes.
-
I'll be interested to see how many points each song got. Can you please show us the full list with points Farin?
-
Mine is also the same:
1. Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
2. Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
3. Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
4. Yellow - Coldplay
5. Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealers Wheel
6. Desire - U2
7. When Doves Cry - Prince
8. The Logical Song - Super
9. The Unguarded Moment - The Church
10. Boys Of Summer - Don Henley
-
-Also in freshman year, I wouldn't listen to music that didn't have guitar solos.
You're saying that's a bad thing? :guitar:

Farin, please note that I have changed my voting because I noticed a song I had not seen in the list originally. Here it is again:
1. Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
2. Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
3. Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
4. Yellow - Coldplay
5. Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealers Wheel
6. Desire - U2
7. When Doves Cry - Prince
8. The Logical Song - Super
9. The Unguarded Moment - The Church
10. Boys Of Summer - Don Henley
Try not to count my votes twice, but I won't really mind if you do .
