5. With A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker
Still no idea about the others.
-
Why thank you
-
Wow, I only just noticed this thread. Not only is it the one of the most entertaining and amusing threads on these boards, but it has to be the most off topic thread. I also think it should stay that way. In many other message boards this thread would be banned, so it's a good thing we know the moderators, and they aren't mean.
So, did anyone else notice that the MJ fans only posted on this thread for a total of around 25 minutes, then suddenly disappeared? Weird.
-
Thought I should mention, just in case you didn't know, the song is about busking.
Great photo, though.
-
Yeah, I heard that on the radio this morning.
-

Alice Cooper played the new version of "Jump" on his radio show last week. I was surprised at both the song and the fact that Alice Cooper played it.
That's right, Alice Cooper's radio show is here in Perth.
-
As soon as I saw das's post, I thought "these songs look familiar". I have worked out the theme, and once everyone else does, they will work out the rest of the songs, even if they have never heard them before. I won't give them all away, but here are two to help you out.
3. Layla - Derek and the Dominos (I love the clue Jenny)
10. Here Comes The Night - Them
-
Wow, you jumped on that quickly Peachy. I only have Tribute, but I have heard most of the album it is on, and I think it is a pretty good album.

So am I to understand a man named Goerge Harrison did a cover version of Got My Mind Set On You? Strange that his name is so similar to George's.
-
6. Could it be "Howling At The Moon"- The Ramones?
Not really siblings, but coincidentally shared the same surname. How uncanny is that?
Throughout their time together, The Ramones had a total of eight unrelated members, all with the same surname. Such an amazing coincidence.
-
You decide whether we need hints or not.
I'm still trying to think of bands with siblings...
-
Thanks Das, for being faster than me
Yes you're right! As long as it isn't in the current Daily or Weekly Top Ten it's alright...
In that case I'll just wait patiently until "Won't Get Fooled Again" drops out of the ten, and then I'll pounce on it (unless someone beats me to it).

Innovation
- Original / non-parody
I definitely think cover versions deserve much less credit than originals, but there remains many very popular covers that some consider classics. For example:
"All Along The Watchtower" - Jimi Hendrix (original - Bob Dylan)
"Bette Davis Eyes" - Kim Carnes (original - Jackie DeShannon)
"Blue Suede Shoes" - Elvis Presley (original - Carl Perkins)
"The House Of The Rising Sun" - The Animals (original - Georgia Turner)
"I Heard It Through The Grapevine" - Marvin Gaye (original - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles)
"I'm A Believer" - The Monkees (original - Neil Diamond)
"Mack The Knife" - Bobby Darin (original - Kurt Weill)
"Respect" - Arethra Franklin (original - Otis Redding)
"(They Long To Be) Close To You" - Dionne Warwick/Dusty Springfield/The Carpenters (three seperate versions) (original - Richard Chamberlain)
"Unchained Melody" - The Righteous Brothers (original - Les Baxter)
-
Exposure
- Radio friendly
- Band is already established / preferably in the Hall of Fame
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I completely disagree with both of these. I personally think most truly great songs aren't radio friendly.
-
4. Fortunate Son - CCR
-
Time for some HARD ROCK!
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Sorry for taking no doubt two of the greatest hard rock songs of all time in the same nomination, but I don't think many hard rock/metal songs will make the ten here.
-
CanAm, you haven't tipped against my beloved country!?!?
Go Socceroos!! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!!
Are you staying up for the match, c_s??
Over here in Perth, the match was 11pm-1am, and since I am on Uni holidays, I stayed up to watch it.

I'd like to congratulate the Portugese on their magnificent display of caution and self-control against Holland...
It's good to see a record got broken this world cup, but I didn't exactly want it to be 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards in one game. Remember Holland got 2 of those reds as well. I believe three of the reds and 10 of the yellows came in either injury time in the first half or in the first 33 minutes of the second half. I watched the replays of that period and thought "This is stupid".
Couldn't agree more...
Well, besides that I would have liked for Switzerland to win
but somehow I got the impression they didn't want to win...
Yep, those three Swiss penalties had to be the worst penalty shots ever. I never thought it was possible for a team to score 0 in a shootout.

It had to happen. Just when that red card against Italy (admittedly I would have only given a yellow) meant we had a referee who wouldn't give us trouble, Italy were given a penalty with just nine seconds left on the clock. The Italian striker had plenty of time to avoid Neill, but instead decided to run straight into him and hope to get a penalty. He succeeded, and because of that us Aussies were cheated of an exciting extra time/penalties finish.
Oh well. Only one thing for it now.
GO ENGLAND!
(I was born there).
-
the first one is very much okay, but I wouldn't use the second website... (eg "Brunnen" is "well" like "fountain")
Damn translators.
Italy vs Australia tonight. I'm excited.
The Topical Ten. Can you Guess them from the Clues ?
