Definitely a lead guitarist in a band (although I of course currently lack the skill). I would like to contribute to the band's sound, just as long as I don't have to write any lyrics. I'm useless at poetry and stuff.
-
Done. I just took this picture myself a few minutes ago.
-
My favourites:
Paul McCartney - The Beatles
Flea - Red Hot Chili Peppers
John Entwistle - The Who
Roger Waters - Pink Floyd
Terrance "Geezer" Butler - Black Sabbath
John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin
Jack Bruce - Cream
-
I think Jenny said she was going to be on holiday until the 10th, which means she should be back here soon.
-
I also play guitar. Considering the fact that I have been playing for around 8 years now, I'm pretty useless. I usually just practise "Stairway To Heaven" and "Under The Bridge" on my classical guitar, but there are a few other songs I am practising. I am trying to learn "Classical Gas", but it is just too hard .
I can also play keyboard instruments (piano, keyboard, as well as glockenspiel and xylophone for my school concert band), but I don't think I've played on my keyboard for about two years now.

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd
2. Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Thanks shadows. We do have a nice bunch of people here whom I'm sure will make you feel at home. Especially c s 1987 whose two nominations you voted as your #1 and #2 picks. Thanks our shadows taller than our souls for helping the success of my songs. That is now my third number 2, but I am yet to have a number 1. Don't worry, it's not like I'm trying to get a number 1, although that would be nice .

I see this thread has been brought back after about 8 months, so I'll have to contribute.
I think I bought Remasters just over a year ago (my first and still only Zep CD). It remains my favourite compilation, and I have listened to it much more than anything else since. So, I guess my Zep phase began then, although I was obsessing over "Stairway To Heaven" about 6 months beforehand.
I think this "phase" will last several years for me, and I will always listen to them. My reason for liking them is different to most people though. Most fans love their entire catalogue. I like most of their songs, but three stand out to me - The Rain Song, Stairway To Heaven and Kashmir. These three are in my top ten favourite songs ever, and possibly always will be. These three songs are enough to make me call Zep my favourite band.

Of course, I am a big MJ fan.
I wonder why they didn't mention the other Stones? They're great too!

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd
2. Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
3. One - U2
4. Space Oddity - David Bowie
5. Light My Fire - The Doors
6. Highway To Hell - AC/DC
7. Handle With Care - The Traveling Wilburys
8. What I Like About You - The Romantics
9. Living Next Door To Alice - Smokie
10. Hardest Button to Button, The - The White Stripes
-
10. Behind Blue Eyes -- The Who
That was the very first song I guessed when you posted your questions the first time, but why is the lower part of the brain with some people behind their eyes? That really confused me.
I dunno. I know it's a weird clue, but I thought the lower part of a person's brain was behind a person's eyes, and I said some people because only some people have blue eyes.
Well done everyone.
1. The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin (Malakin)
2. November Rain - Guns N' Roses (bazooka)
3. Dazed And Confused - Led Zeppelin (Dappled)
4. Kashmir - Led Zeppelin (FarinU)
5. Innuendo - Queen (FarinU)
6. Badge - Cream (bazooka)
7. Champagne Supernova - Oasis (Malakin)
8. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (The Seeker)
9. Achilles Last Stand - Led Zeppelin (daslied)
10. Behind Blue Eyes - The Who (The Seeker)
The theme was songs from the Top 25 of my most played list on my iPod (listed in the "What's on your iPod forum). Yeah, I know, it's weird.
-
Since that is a hard one, I might as well tell you that you have the right band and album, but the wrong song.
Final clues (these should give them away):
3. - I said four of the songs are by the same band, and this one is too.
- From this band's 1969 debut album
5. I already told you the band and the album, so I don't think you should need any more clues. If you still can't work it out, just list the songs from that album and I'll tell you which one it is.
10. The song was covered recently by Limp Bizkit. (I didn't want to give you that clue, but I thought someone should have got this by now).
I'll even tell you now that the theme of this ten can be found in the "What's on your iPod" thread in the Music Discussion Classic section. I'll also list the correct answers so far:
1. The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin (Malakin)
2. November Rain - Guns N' Roses (bazooka)
3. -
4. Kashmir - Led Zeppelin (FarinU)
5. -
6. Badge - Cream (bazooka)
7. Champagne Supernova - Oasis (Malakin)
8. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (The Seeker)
9. Achilles Last Stand - Led Zeppelin (daslied)
10. -

It is played on 96fm from 10pm-midnight, Monday-Friday. I've heard Alice mention that he is on in Perth, but he hasn't mentioned any other places outside USA, so I guess we're just lucky.
-
I had a message preceding the very first Top Ten - no obscure album tracks. However I acknowledge that these aren't obscure and would be known in one form or another by most people.
SOYCD definitely isn't obscure. I think quite a lot of people have nominated fairly obscure album tracks, or even obscure singles, before. I don't see any problems with it, unless our nominations become overcrowded with obscure tracks and many people are unable to find ten songs they know.
-
I see France beat Portugal 1-0, from a penalty in the first half. So Italy plays France in the final - world number 13 and 8 respectively. It's a bit strange that Nigeria and Denmark are ranked ahead of Italy, yet neither qualified for the cup.
The good news for Farin is that Miroslav Klose will almost certainly get the golden boot, since he's still two goals ahead of everyone else.
-
I think it's time for some long songs.
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd (approx. 9 minutes 10 seconds)
Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-9 - Pink Floyd (approx. 26 minutes 5 seconds)
-
All correct except for Paranoid (it was released in 1970 if I remember correctly - it's hard to remember things from 17 years before I was born). That leaves 3,5 and 10. Number 5 is quite obscure, but I thought it should be easy to work out the band from the second clue.
-
Ah, what a pity. Rain is incorrect, as no songs with the title Rain fit the theme. The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin is correct.
Since there hasn't been much activity here, I think it's time for clues.
3. Popular hard rock song from the late 60s
4. What material is made from goat fur?
5. Released in 1991 – from this band’s last album with its original lead singer
7. Released in the mid 90s
8. Released on an album from the late 70s – wasn’t a single but remains one of this band’s most popular songs
9. The name of Brad Pitt’s character in a 2004 movie is in the title
10. Ballad from the early 70s – was covered a few years ago

As a second year uni maths student, I felt obliged to work out some statistics regarding the posts and views on these top tens:
- 30.77 posts per day
- 937 posts per month
- 1.282 posts per hour
- One post every 46.8 minutes
- 164.28 views per day
- 6.845 views per hour
- One view every 8.77 minutes
Yep, that's impressive considering we don't have a huge number of regulars here.
-
Badge and November Rain are both correct. I'm pretty sure Clapton didn't use a pseudonym for While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
-
I'll be back sometime tomorrow to check answers.
-
Here is my Topical Ten for you all to guess. The theme is definitely not obvious, and I'll give you it if none of you can work it out (which you probably won't - I assure you all it is a very weird theme). I'll give you the hint that four of the songs are by the same band - a few of their songs fit the theme and some were just begging to be assigned clues.
1. An rather unoriginal name for a song about precipitation
2. This type of weather only occurs in a certain month
3. How I felt after the penalty was given in the Italy vs Australia World Cup game
4. It comes from goats (spelt incorrectly though)
5. Referring to an insult
6. “L’Angelo Misterioso†contributed to this song
7. Something many thousands of light years away that could get you drunk
8. How you would feel after receiving local anaesthetic while lying on a leather couch
9. Brad Pitt crossed with General Custer
10. This is where you would find the lower part of the brain in certain people
-
Very interesting.

NOW I THINK THESE WOULD BE 2 SURE FIRE #1s:
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
Another Brick In The Wall (Parts 1 & 2) - Pink Floyd
How about we make them mandatory nominations (credited to nobody) one Top Ten, and fight out the other eight places ?
OR
We all go really commercial and deliberately put songs we think could beat them ?
(Those two would still be mandatory). Maybe for our 25th (Silver) Top Ten ?
I was still thinking we should just let them be nominated by whoever wants to do so. I don't agree with the second idea, since it seems oppose the general purpose of these top tens - we shouldn't nominate songs that we think will be #1.
Also I'm sure there are several Beatles songs remaining that would probably make #1. Hey Jude, perhaps?
-
I've had a bit more of a think about these:
2. Believe It Or Not (artist unknown)
3. Hey Hey We're The Monkees - The Monkees
9. Love And Marriage (is the singer Frank Sinatra? I'm not sure).

I'm going to do a themed nomination again - Australian songs:
Never Tear Us Apart - INXS
Bittersweet - Hoodoo Gurus
NOTE: I have changed my nominations - see later post.
