  1. Ooooh, cool! Normal curve!

    You mean like this?

    normalcurveah3.jpg

Yep, looks pretty normal to me.

This also disproves one of my favourite quotes from The Simpsons:

Why do you need new bands? Everyone knows rock attained perfection in

    1974. It's a scientific fact.

I think the graph suggests 1968 is closer to the mark.

EDIT: Apologies for the poor picture quality. Also apologies to anyone who I have confused with this post. :D

  2. Tuna fish. Of course tuna is a fish. I have not heard of tuna anything else. Why be redundant?

There is also a similar one that is more stupid - "Koala Bear". For the last time, as pretty much any Australian can tell you, Koala's aren't bears.

I also hate unnecessary extensions. "ATM Machine" means "Automatic Teller Machine Machine", and "PIN Number" means "Personal Identification Number Number".

Similarly, "First year anniversary" - you don't need to say year, that is already implied. "Six month anniversary" doesn't make sense at all.

  3. Music legend Bob Dylan hasn't heard a decent record in 20 years, because modern recordings are "atrocious."

The singer, who has released eight LPs in the last two decades, is disheartened that his new album sounds so much better in the studio than on disc and can understand why music fans download their music for free on the internet.

"You listen to these modern records, they're atrocious, they have sound all over them. There's no definition of nothing, no vocal, no nothing, just like ... static.

"Even these songs probably sounded ten times better in the studio when we recorded 'em. CDs are small. There's no stature to it."

Have a look at the highlighted parts. I agree that he isn't commenting on the quality of the music, only the recording quality.

  4. 1. YOUR ROCK STAR NAME:

(first pet and current street name)

    Thomas Leary (how boring)

    2. YOUR MOVIE STAR NAME:

(grandfather/grandmother on your moms side, your favorite candy)

    Monty Mars

    3. YOUR "FLY GIRL/GUY" NAME:

(first initial of first name, first two

    of your middle name)

    C - PA

    4. YOUR DETECTIVE NAME:

    (favorite color, favorite animal)

Green Falcon (I honestly didn't steal this one from you Lizard)

    5. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME:

(middle name, city where you were born)

    Paul Northampton

    6. YOUR STAR WARS NAME:

(the first 3 letters of your last name, first 2 letters of your first name, first 2 letters of mom's maiden name and first 3 letters of the town you grew up in.)

    SamChKuMil

    7.SUPERHERO NAME:

("The", your favorite color, favorite drink)

The Green Beer (that’s just weird. Obviously I am only a superhero on St. Patrick’s Day)

  5. I remembered you like The Who, so I checked them out:

    Pete Dennis Blandford Townshend

    Roger Harry Daltrey

    John Alec Entwistle

    Keith John Moon

Here's the new list: Harold, Richard and two members without middle names.

Clue: One of the members has a second surname, Meddows, but it isn't usually mentioned in his name.

  6. More than three months after your post, I have finally worked it out! It's Cream (Eric Patrick Clapton, Jack Symon Asher Bruce and Ginger Edward Baker)

Here's a new one: Keith, Roger, Jon, Berkeley and William.

I think the Berkeley should give it away if anyone happens to know who has that middle name.

  7. All you have to do here is identify the album covers that I have altered. Once they have been identified, someone else can alter some album covers and post them for the rest of us to guess.

The white areas on the covers are to cover up band names and album titles.

  8. I will probably do done when I don't have so much uni work to do. Since I only normally buy greatest hits albums, and the only greatest hits album I own that is from a band that isn't very popular in the US and UK is Fingerprints by Powderfinger, it might have to be that.

    - Paint It, Black scored the second highest number of points of any song in any top ten so far, and managed to score much higher than Mrs. Robinson, which was equal number 1 with Paint It, Black in Top Ten #6.

    - Some number ones in our top tens weren't very successful here, including Piano Man and Who'll Stop The Rain.

  10. As Darryl said before, I welcome you all to:

THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE ULTIMATE TOP TEN - ROUND 1

Darryl, Farin and I have been discussing the rules for the last week, and this is what we have decided on:

    - No nominations are required, as the songs have been selected from our 25 top tens.

    - Voting rules will be exactly the same as the normal top tens - rank your favourite songs in the list from 1-10, and 10 points will be given to your number 1 song, 9 for number 2 etc.

    - We have decided to restrict eligibility to vote to only those people who have nominated or voted in at least one of our Top Tens. We think that's fair !

    - We realised it would be ridiculous to expect people to come up with a top ten from all 251 songs, so I have seeded the songs and split them into fair groups.

    - This is Group 1 of 5, and this group contains 50 songs. I will then combine the five top tens together to form a group, and then we will vote on these songs to form the Ultimate Top Ten.

    Group 1:

Ain't Too Proud to Beg - The Temptations

Another One Bites The Dust - Queen

    Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty

    Blackbird - The Beatles

Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker

Can't You See - Marshall Tucker Band

    Cecilia - Simon & Garfunkel

Crimson And Clover - Tommy James And The Shondells

    Crocodile Rock - Elton John

    D'yer Mak'er - Led Zeppelin

    Daydream Believer - The Monkees

Dream A Little Dream Of Me - Mama Cass & The Mamas & The Papas

    Drive - The Cars

    Harden My Heart - Quarterflash

    Hush - Deep Purple

Imagine - John Lennon /Plastic Ono Band

    Isn't It A Pity - George Harrison

    Jailhouse Rock - Elvis Presley

Life In The Fast Lane - The Eagles

Live And Let Die - Paul McCartney and Wings

    Losing My Religion - R.E.M.

Love Her Madly - The Doors

    Mississippi Queen - Mountain

    Mrs.Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel

    My Sharona - The Knack

  11. It should be an interesting Top Ten. I haven't been keeping score, as Farin's running this one. I suppose Led Bloody Zeppelin will be in there again ! You 'Kids' would vote for Robert Plant burping.

    ;)

...or Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Roger Daltrey, Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton for that matter. I assure you Zep aren't the only band I can't help but be biased towards. ;)

  12. The Blind Boys of Alabama are a gospel music group from Alabama that first formed at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in 1939. As of 2006, they are still performing, including a number of the original members.

That's very impressive. I never expected any musicians from the 30s would still be around.
