  1. There are plenty of exciting and popular bands that should have made the "top 25": Guns 'N Roses instead of Def Leppard, for instance. Rush instead of something like Boston. Nirvana, even! Easy, easy pickin' there. I wouldn't think of choosing The Pretenders, Blondie, Heart, Garbage, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, et al. as "controversial" in the least - just giving credit where credit is due. It would show some good taste for the popular stuff. By looking at this top 25, it makes me think white noise has more sonic flavour since this list is 25 same flavours for "boring." This list is on cruise control and the speed setting is [boring]. If this list got any more boring it would be used as a general anesthetic. The only way I'd read another "top 25" from about.com would be in terms of the top 25 things I don't want about.com to make a "top 25" list out of.

Actually, I would agree with any of the Gunners, Nirvana or Rush being in that top 25. However, I don't personally think these bands are any more exciting than most of the ones in the list - but that's just my opinion.

  2. Their top five is the same as mine, except in a different order. :)

Also, I have to point something out. If a list like this doesn't contain any bands that you wouldn't expect, then it is supposedly "boring", whereas if it does contain a band that you wouldn't expect, it would be labelled "controversial" or "weird". You just can't please everyone.

  3. Actually, I'll continue this one, since I can see an important link to be made.

Slash is currently a member of Velvet Revolver.

(We have now linked all the way from a band that formed in 1960 to a band that formed in 2002. Now to get back).

Velvet Revolver's lead singer was Scott Weiland from the Stone Temple Pilots. The De Leo brothers from Stone Temple Pilots have formed a new band with Richard Patrick, who worked with Nine Inch Nails. Chris Vrenna was once the drummer for Nine Inch Nails, and he has worked with U2...

  4. I don't see any similarity between my picture and the cover of A Night At The Opera, unless there is an alternative cover I don't know about.

However, there is a connection between the album and A Night At The Opera, but it isn't the artist.

I know it's hard, but as I said before, look really close inside the wobbly rectangle area (it isn't wobbly on the actual cover) and you should be able to make out what it is.

It's probably my favourite album, although it's kind of unoriginal to say that since so many people say the same thing.

There is another big clue I could give you, our shadows taller than our souls, but I think it's too big, and it will make it too obvious. :P

  5. Is the second one "The Wall" ???

I probably should have said before - it isn't The Wall. I put the brick wall effect in myself. Have a close look at the wobbly rectangle area and you might be able to work it out. If not, I will post an easier version later. It is probably one of the top ten most popular albums of all time.

Get Born is correct for number 1.

  6. As someone I heard on the radio this morning pointed out, Steve Irwin was our most genuinely Aussie celebrity who was famous overseas. You can't really call any of our actors, musicians etc. really obviously Australian, but Steve's antics truly embodied the nature of great "Aussie Battlers" (as our politicians call them). His achievements in promoting animal welfare and tourism are so great, they are almost incomparable with anyone elses. We will definitely miss him.

However, I must point out that Katie was absolutely correct - absolutely nobody in Australia drinks Fosters. We export it because we don't like it. :P

  7. I guess it's time for a recap, now that the third round has started.

As I have studied astronomy at uni this year, I couldn't resist this.

Cassiopeia A - The Colorful Aftermath of a Violent Stellar Death

A new image taken with NASA's Hubble Space Telescope provides a detailed look at the tattered remains of a supernova explosion known as Cassiopeia A (Cas A). It is the youngest known remnant from a supernova explosion in the Milky Way. The new Hubble image shows the complex and intricate structure of the star's shattered fragments. The image is a composite made from 18 separate images taken in December 2004 using Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).

  9. I was disappointed in the list, because I think many songs which made the list are inferior to many which did not. However, I certainly do not boo any of the selections or the people who made them. One of the things that makes Songfacts great is the diversity of musical opinion. Besides, if everyone liked the same songs as everyone else, it would be a boring world.

    Well said.

I don't boo people because their opinions are different to my own. I did that because of people criticising songs that I don't believe deserve to be criticised. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, but I do believe criticism should only be used in moderation, and only when it is really deserved. And besides, don't take things so seriously - I wasn't really angry or anything :) .

  12. THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE ULTIMATE TOP TEN - ROUND 3

    - No nominations are required, as the songs have been selected from our 25 top tens.

    - Voting rules will be exactly the same as the normal top tens - rank your favourite songs in the list from 1-10, and 10 points will be given to your number 1 song, 9 for number 2 etc.

    - We have decided to restrict eligibility to vote to only those people who have nominated or voted in at least one of our Top Tens. We think that's fair !

    - We realised it would be ridiculous to expect people to come up with a top ten from all 251 songs, so I have seeded the songs and split them into fair groups.

    - This is Group 3 of 5, and this group contains 50 songs. I will then combine the five top tens together to form a group, and then we will vote on these songs to form the Ultimate Top Ten.

    Group 3:

Across The Universe - The Beatles (1970)
