Good point Mindcrime. I'll bet right now that someone will say Smells Like Teen Spirit.

That's so stupid. So because a band has a gimmick, they're automatically talentless? I don't really know much by Jethro Tull, but Weird Al is a lyrical genius, and Alice Cooper has tons of good music.
I'm surprised you don't know much about Jethro Tull. To me they are simply the most musically talented rock band of all time. I just don't think any other band in history could have produced anything like the albums Aqualung or Thick As A Brick, or performed these albums live as well as Tull did.
Obviously the guy who made the comment about gimmicks knows f-all about the artists he is dissing. I don't think of any of those three as being gimmicky (okay, maybe Weird Al to some extent), they are so much more than that. Seriously, what is Jethro Tull's gimmick? Being much more creative in every way than almost every band in existence? Amazing live performances?
I keep on forgetting that The Moody Blues and Deep Purple haven't made it yet - they are long overdue.

Search on any music related website (except for Songfacts, of course ) and you will probably find several references to a version of Stairway To Heaven recorded as a collaboration by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. In reality, they are probably referring to this version by Far Corporation (a band featuring three members of Toto and a few other musicians), which was released in 1985.
Also, there's the fact that so many people seem to think Cat's In The Cradle was originally recorded by Cat Stevens.

Your turn.

Not them either.
I'm surprised no one has got this yet.
Hint 3 - The guy in the first picture is the lead singer and pianist of the band in the second picture. They are best known for their 1967 debut single. They have released more than ten studio albums, the most recent of which was in 2003. I'm also sure that Dappled hasn't seen the second picture, because he should recognise them straight away.

You know too much.

Frank Zappa is pretty much top of my list of "artists I should listen to more". I haven't heard any full Zappa albums yet, but I really like the songs I have heard so far. I think my favourites have been tracks from the early 70s.
I've been wanting to buy Freak Out! for a while now. I'll probably get it pretty soon.

Hint 1: This photo was taken at a tribute concert for a famous musician who died this decade.

4 of these are from the same week...
The Songfactors' Choice Top Ten #153 for the week ending 15th February 2009
1. Wishin' And Hopin' - Dusty Springfield (1964)
2. Billie Jean - Michael Jackson (1982) 5
3. Girl - The Beatles (1965) 9
4. Ain't No Woman (Like The One I've Got) - The Four Tops (1972)
5. Hardest Button To Button - The White Stripes (2003) 3
6. Great Balls Of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis (1957)
7. Pretty In Pink - Psychedelic Furs (1981)
8. Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand (2004) 2
9. We Got The Beat - The GoGos (1980)
10. Whip It - Devo (1980)
Seems the songs should get a lower ranking on the overall list then they did on a separate list.
Strange things happen here. Strawberry Fields Forever missed out on the top ten the first time (possibly the first two times) it was nominated, then it became the highest scoring song in TT history.

Australians always shorten people's names. Ain't that right, Ra?

I can understand why Ian would be hard to interview, and I cannot really explain how jealous I am that you met him.

1. How To Disappear Completely - Radiohead (2000) (This deserves #1 for having six more Ondes Martenots than any other nomination this week, unless I am mistaken)
2. Tomorrow - Silverchair (1995)
3. Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits (1985)
4. Mykonos - Fleet Foxes (2008)
5. Move Over - Janis Joplin (1971)
6. Rottweillers - Nerve Rack (1991)
7. Dry The Rain - The Beta Band (1997)
8. World I Know - Collective Soul (1995)
9. Heavy Metal Drummer - Wilco (2002)
10. River, The - Bruce Sprinsteen (1980)
I didn't know many nominations this week, but I like the ten I have selected. I wasn't expecting to leave Harvest Moon off my list.

I guess you are talking about EarthAngel, though I wish it was me.
This Songfactor has been to at least two Alice Cooper concerts in the last few years.

Australian desert sand is generally reddish orange in colour, pretty different to the colours you find in other countries. Still, I haven't seen anything quite like it. I'm glad it's blowing East and not West.
Who is that?

That helped.
John Mayall and Peter Green?
