I've just got into this 1989 hardcore punk band recently and I'm lovin them
lol bad thing is I don't know anyone whos heard of them and all my mates cringe whenever i try and play their albums

The comment on nevermind is true but it was so popular because it was without a doubt their best album.
I'd rather have had nirvana produse nevermind than still have them around making albums like in utero.

Just cause you don't like it doesnt mean its fake punk. They get called that sometimes just due to the fact that their popular/mainstream now.
while yes they are contemporary but that isnt really a genre in its self as it just means it has been written in the present day.
anywayz try Last Ride in it is totally different to any of there other songs
