The Shins~ So Says I
An address to the golden door
I was strumming on a stone again
Pulling teeth from the pimps of gore when hatched
A tragic opera in my mind...
And it told of a new design
In which every soul is duty bound
To uphold all the statues of boredom therein lies
The fatal flaw of the red age
Because it was nothing like we'd ever dremt
Our lust for life had gone away with the rent we hated
And because it made no money nobody saved no one's life.
So we burned all our uniforms
And let nature take its course again
And the big ones just eat all the little ones
That sent us back to the drawing board.
In our darkest hours
We have all asked for some
Angel to come
Sprinkle his dust all around
But all our crying voices they can't turn it around
And you've had some crazy conversations of your own.
We've got rules and maps and guns in our backs
But we still can't just behave ourselves
Even if to save our own lives
(So Says I;)
We are a brutal Kind!
Because this is nothing like we'd ever drempt
Tell Sir Thomas More we've got another failed attempt
Because if it makes them money they might just give you life this time

Thanks! My brother ordered this album and a single, "Time Bomb," on vinyl off of hellomerch.com , their merchandise website. Should be arriving soon!
-
Oceans has a nice acoustic guitar, but it was a live video I listened to and I couldn't find anything better.
Did you see this? I rely on the people that do this (put still images to make "videos" of songs) to find the song I want. (There's no acoustic guitar in the real version.)
-
It's ok, just check it out soon!
-
Well? PLEASE COMMENT!

Matches" – 2:10
"I'm Actual" – 3:47
"Time Bomb" – 4:01
"She Doesn't Get It" – 3:51
"Pick Me Up" – 3:46
"Dog Problems" – 4:11
"Oceans" – 4:48
"Dead End" – 4:08
"Snails" – 4:09
"The Compromise" – 3:27
"Inches and Falling" – 3:30
"If Work Permits" – 5:28
(iTunes Exclusive Track)
"The Lottery Song" – 2:28 (Harry Nilsson cover)
This album starts off with a waltz, "Matches." I'm not so sure what It's about, but when my brother downloaded this album, this song got erased. I re-downloaded it though. It's a nice waltz. Another waltz then follows, "I'm Actual." This song is sorta selfish. ("Can we please take this hour and talk about me? Talk about me and talk about me.")"Time Bomb" follows. THIS SONG IS A CATCHY AS, AS, Well, I don't know. It has a kick butt piano riff that is GREAT, and great lyrics! This isn't the song to buy (If you only can buy one) "She Doesn't Get it" is. This song sound like it was made in 1965 or '66! (Except for the subject matter. Listen to the lyrics.)Catchy guitar, sweet hooks, and an AWESOME video! "Pick me Up." What to say? Hmmm, It's an ok song, to say the least, but the chorus is weak. Next up is the title track. "Dog Problems." This song sounds like a Broadway song! A very serious subject matter, however. (I think) it's about cheating. Listen for the clarinet solo!"Oceans" probably contains one of the best parts of the album, the HAWAIIAN CHANT-thingy! ("OOOOOOOHH-WAAAAAAYYYY-OHHHHHHH")And then followesd by sone lyrics I can't decipher. They're in English, though! "Dead End" souns like another broadway song! Cool hooks! "Snails" is a cool number with a few good hooks. "The Compromise" was the first single off of the album, and is a SWEET song!! It's about Atlantic (their old recording company) wanting the band to write a song that would specifically "do well" on the charts. "Inches & Falling" is a optimistic-sounding song ("I love love! I love being in Love! I don't care what it does to me!")"If Work Permits" closes the album. When it starts, you wouldn't think that the song turns into what it does!It starts out as a slow acoustic number, but by the first chorus, it turns into a hard-rocking, GREAT song! It provides a good close to the album (feedback!)
When you download it from iTunes, you get a bonus track!! It's a cover of the Harry Nilsson cover. Do I Need say more?
OK, this is it. What to score? If you like wierd bands with odd songs, buy this album. If you like thowback bands, buy this album. If you like alternative, BUY THIS ALBUM! Overall, I give it a 8.75/10.

BADFINGER! Anyone who mentions Badfinger in their songs is on the top of my list!...Good Job Johnny...
Of COURSE I had to mention Badfinger! They have to be one of my favorite bands! What do you actually think of the song?
-
The Postal Service~Such Great Heights is a great example. So is The Format's "Compromise". Also good examples are The Shins' "So Says I", and Money for Nothing!

This is a song I wrote about Rap. I used a 'w' to be funny about it. It, basically, is in all of my favorite styles of music, except for the metal section.
Wrapping (Sell Outs)
All of this wrapping ’bout ghettos and gangsters
They’re all nothing but a bunch of cankers.
All this swearing, cursing, and yelling
ALL IT IS IS A GOSHDARNED SELL OUT
I say, you can’t turn on old MTV without seeing a wrapper.
He’s either wrapping about the chick he picked up last night,
Or about how big he is!
You need your coffee and TV (WHY?)
To get your mind off of everything
that’s going round the world.
Strike the TV!
(SPOKEN DURING WRAP BACKGROUND BEAT)
Why’d you change your name, Mr. Lame?
Just so you could get some fame?
Lemme see that iPod.
No Beatles?
No Badfinger?
Why R. Kelly?
This is really smelly!
(NORMAL POP, SUNG)
All of this wrapping about blackies and whities,
Just go on and put on your nighties!
All this sex, drugs and roc…. (Music Stops)
(SpokeN) No, that was the ‘50s!
(Sung) All this sex, drugs and crappy wrap!
(Guitar Break)
(“At the Wake†Style)
You gotta stop this genre, record companies!
I picked up a wrapper’s CD.
It was titled “Love is the keyâ€
I said, “Who is this?â€
“’Bliss Kissâ€
Who’s that?!
(Switch to blues Before the Marimba Solo)
(Repeat 1st verse with a heavy metal sound)
(Bass Solo)

Well, lets continue this Beatles sole trend with Paul McCartney's "Only Mama Knows"
Well I was found in the transit loungeOf a dirty airport town
What was I doing on the road to ruin
Well my mama laid me down
My mama laid me down
Round my hand was a plastic band
With a picture of my face
I was crying, left to die in
This God forsaken place
This God forsaken place
Only mama knows why she laid me down
In this God forsaken town
Where she was running to what she ran from
Though I always wondered I never knew
Only mama knows
Only mama knows
I'm passing through I'm on my way
I'm on the road no ETA.
I'm passing through no fixed abode
And that is why I need to try
To hold on I've gotta hold on gotta hold on
Was it planned as a one night stand
Or did she leave in disgrace
Well I never will I ever see my fathers face, see my fathers face
Only mama knows why she laid me down
In this God forsaken town
Where she was running to what she ran from
Though I always wondered I never knew
Only mama knows
Only mama knows
Only mama knows (only mama knows) why she laid me down
In this God forsaken town
Where she was running to (only mama knows) what she ran from
Though I always wondered I never knew
Only mama knows (only mama knows)
Only mama knows (only mama knows)
(Only mama knows, only mama knows)
I've gotta hold on (only mama knows)
I've gotta hold on (only mama knows )
You've gotta hold on

If It still doesn't make sense, PM me and I will Explain it to you!
-
Another random thought. The riff to The All-American Rejects' "Dirty Little Secret" sound exactly like The Bay City Rollers' "Rock and Roll Love Letter."
Weird, huh?
-
In The Beatles' "Revolution," My brother and I thought that John was singing, "But if you go carrying pictures of Gemini," Intead of "But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao."
Remember, this was about 4-5 years ago! We had it on a tape of a few Beatles' albums my aunt made for us, as we only had a tape player in our car. It think this was the same time I was afraid of "Yesterday" and ran out of the living room when we were copying "1" to tape and it came on. Ya, I was crazy.

I Had Too much To Dream(Last Night)~The Electric Prunes
Last night your shadow fell upon my lonely room
I touched your golden hair and tasted your perfume
Your eyes were filled with love the way they used to be
Your gentle hand reached out to comfort me
Then came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone
I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
The room was empty as I staggered from my bed
I could not bear the image racing through my head
You were so real that I could feel your eagerness
And when you raised your lips for me to kiss
Came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone
I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Too much to dream last night
Oh, too much to dream

Paul sings "Yesterday"? I never heard it, cyber... I´ll listen to it... but I know that song since 1967... And it´s Ringo who sings the "she loves you yeah..." line.
Actually, edna, cyber was (partly) right! (John sings "Yesterday.") See "What Goes On: The Beatles Anomalies List's" Discussion of the matter. In short, Paul Starts it, then John joins, seeing that he didn't have enough breath to start singing SLY,Y,Y,Y after singing "Love is All You need." To see the rest of the site go to What Goes On's Home PAGE
Back on topic, do songs that didn't ever reallt exist count? For Example, in "An English teacher," from Bye Bye Birdie, Rosie sings,
"When You Wrote Conrad's first hit Ugga Bugga Boo Then I knew! That was it! You were thru with English Forever!"
Oh, and by the way I played a part in the local high school production of "BBB".

Jet Airliner-Steve Miller Band
Leavin' home, out on the road
I've been down before
Ridin' along in this big ol' jet plane
I've been thinkin' about my home
But my love light seems so far away
And I feel like it's all been done
Somebody's tryin' to make me stay
You know I've got to be movin' on
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay
Goodbye to all my friends at home
Goodbye to people I've trusted
I've got to go out and make my way
I might get rich you know I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 707
Ridin' high I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through h*ll
Before you get to heaven
Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay
Touchin' down in New England town
Feel the heat comin' down
I've got to keep on keepin' on
You know the big wheel keeps on spinnin' around
And I'm goin' with some hesitation
You know that I can surely see
That I don't want to get caught up in any of that
Funky s**t goin' down in the city
Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay
Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah
Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Carry me to my home
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's there that I belong

Did no one see this? I'm very proud of myself. I can't believe I wrote that!

I'm REALLY sorry to bump an old thread, but I just realized that i was asked this question when looking for edna's link.
This is a good question. I Was going to say, "Well, if I bought it from eBay, the band would've gotten their loyalties!" But then I realized, they would have even though it was on LimeWire. Then I Realized that if I bought it off of eBay, it was already "Bought" and the person doesn't want it anymore. Do you think that when I buy a Record at George's Song Shop (my local record store) that the Beatles acutally get royalties for me buying a copy of the "Ticket to Ride" single with "Eight Arms to Hold You" as the movie title istead of "Help" for $5? Maybe. With LimeWire, however, you're "Buying" the song all over again. You're not getting the same exact thing that was already paid for by someone else. It's like buying through the middleman. Actually, doesn't the record store you buy it from have to pay the royalties, and then you have to pay the record store for the CD and royalties? What I'm saying is, buying off of eBay is like buying it in a record store. Store purchases CD, paying royalties and the CDs. Seller purchases CD, paying the royalties and the cost for the CD. Seller puts the CD on eBay. You buy the CD, paying the seller for Royalties and the CD.
With LimeWire, you're not getting the exact some product that the actual "Seller" bought.
DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN??

The Maine~If I Only Had The Heart
I fell asleep last night,
Where I woke up too late.
And everything I loved.
I began to hate.
I know I sound repetitive,
Cause I'm repeating myself,
And I'm competitive,
I want you all by yourself.
And that alone is just the problem,
I've got these woes,
And I just can't solve them.
If I could gather up the nerve,
I'd put my feelings into words,
And if I weren't so young, or stupid, or restless,
I might be able to just soon forget this.
Just forget this.
Please just forget me,
When I'm out all alone on the east coast.
And please don't forgive me,
When you're home all alone and you need me most.
Oh if I only had the heart,
To find out exactly who you are,
You know I'd try now.
But it's just fine,
No you can't save me,
It's no fault but mine,
Please just blame me.
If I could gather up the nerve,
I'd put my feelings into words,
And if I weren't so young, or stupid, or restless,
I might be able to just soon forget this.
Just forget this.
If I only had the heart, the nerve, the words, you'd think by now I would have learned

And Paul turned the tables on John with Silly Love Songs .
Actually, Paul's follow up was "Let Me Roll It."

You HAVE to listen to the whole album, espeically the title track, to get what I mean. What I meant was that they're not, in today's "Kids who like pop(ular) music's" eyes, "In-style"! In the "Kids who like Alternative music's"eyes, they're sweet! Compare the title track and "If Work Permits." See what I Mean?
