  3. Voodoo Returns To New Orleans

    By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

After being moved to Memphis in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Voodoo Music Experience will return to its original home of New Orleans for the first of its two-night duration. The Oct. 29 show at New Orleans' Riverview Park behind Audobon Zoo will be the first full-scale entertainment event to be held within the city limits since Katrina struck in late August. The next night, Voodoo will continue at Memphis' AutoZone Park.

Exempting prior ticketholders, the New Orleans show will be an invitation-only event for local police, firefighters and rescue personnel. Although the lineups for each event have yet to be announced, among the acts confirmed to appear at at least one show are Nine Inch Nails, Queens Of The Stone Age, New York Dolls, North Mississippi All Stars, Secret Machines, the Neville Brothers, Dr. John and DJ Tiesto.

"In the course of the past few weeks, the outpouring of support from not only the music industry, but from people from all walks of life, who want to come together to celebrate New Orleans has been tremendous," says Voodoo producer Stephen Rehage. "The ability to move forward in two cities -- with so much music history -- is overwhelming to everyone involved with this year's event."

Tickets for the Memphis show will go on sale today (Oct. 12) at 5 p.m. ET via Ticketmaster and the Voodoo Music Experience Web site. Voodoo organizers are also planning a free concert series in downtown Memphis beginning Oct. 27 and continuing into the Halloween weekend.

Proceeds from the Voodoo Music Experience will benefit a host of Katrina-related charities, including the New Orleans Restoration Fund, Habitat for Humanity and Bring New Orleans Back.

  4. Nickelback Debuts 'Right' On Top

    By Margo Whitmire, L.A.

Nickelback has scored the first chart-topping album of its career with "All the Right Reasons" (Roadrunner/IDJMG). The Canadian act's fifth full-length set sold 317,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in front of new sets by Twista, Sara Evans, Fiona Apple and Franz Ferdinand.

Nickelback has been enjoying the success of lead single "Photograph," which soared 25-4 last week on the Billboard Hot 100 and 36-2 on the Hot Digital Songs chart. The rock group's previous high-water mark came with its 2001 breakthrough, "Silver Side Up," which debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and has sold nearly 5.1 million copies. In 2003, "The Long Road" opened at No. 6 in 2003 and has sold 2.8 million.

Chicago rapper Twista takes the album chart's second slot with "The Day After" (Atlantic), which features "Girl Tonite," a top 10 title on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. First week sales of 129,000 copies fell far short of the album's predecessor, 2004's "Kamikaze," which opened with 312,000 and bowed at No. 1; it has sold 1.8 million to date.

"Real Fine Place," Evans' fifth RCA studio album, opens at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top Country Albums list. One-week sales of 126,000 are a career best and the placing is the highest she's seen on either album tally. The set follows 2003's "Restless," which started at No. 20 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 917,000 units to date.

Behind the debuts, Gretchen Wilson's "All Jacked Up" drops to No. 4 following last week's No. 1 debut. The country artist's sophomore Epic album experienced a 54% decrease to sales of 120,000 in its second week at retail.

Sheryl Crow's "Wildflowers" (A&M) drops 2-5 on a 24% fall to sales of 106,000 copies, while Kanye West "Late Registration" (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam) slips one to No. 6 on a 14% dip to 94,000.

After a six-year hiatus, Apple earns her highest berth on the album chart with "Extraordinary Machine" (Epic), which enters at No. 7 on the strength of 94,000 copies. The placement is higher than the No. 13 opening of 1999's "When the Pawn...," but that set had higher first week sales at 103,000. To date, that disc has sold 925,000.

Franz Ferdinand also scores a career best Billboard 200 peak with the No. 8 entry of "You Could Have It So Much Better" (Domino/Epic). With an 81,000-copy opening week, the Scottish quartet has come a long way from last year's self-titled debut, which had a first-week total of just 8,000 copies to bow at No. 164. But fueled by the modern rock hit "Take Me Out," that album has so far racked up sales of 971,000.

In its 17th week on the chart, the Black Eyed Peas’ "Monkey Business" refuses to back down. The A&M/Interscope album, which previously peaked at No. 2, rebounds one position to No. 9 on a 4% sales gain to 80,000.

Faith Hill benefits from a dose of the Oprah magic as her former chart topper, "Fireflies," springs 40-10. The Warner Bros. Nashville set experienced a 194% jump in sales (79,000) in the wake of an Oct. 3 appearance on television's syndicated "Oprah Winfrey Show." During the appearance, Hill performed the single "Breathe," which previously topped the Billboard Top Country Songs chart for six weeks.

Rapper Trina is living the "Glamorest Life," which debuts at No. 11. A career-best sales week of 77,000 copies results in her highest ranking on the album chart. The Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic album follows 2002's "Diamond Princess," which opened at No. 14 with 67,000 and has sold 490,000 to date.

Gospel veteran Kirk Franklin returns to The Billboard 200 at No. 13 with "Hero" (Gospo Centric), while Melissa Etheridge's first greatest hits project, "The Road Less Traveled" (Island), bows at No. 14.

Other notable debuts this week include Shinedown's "Us and Them" (Atlantic, No. 23); Chris Cagle's "Anywhere But Here" (Capitol Nashville, No. 24); O.A.R.'s "Stories of a Stranger" (Lava, No. 39); Deftones' "B-Sides & Rarities" (Warner Bros., No.42); Cross Canadian Ragweed's "Garage" (Universal South, No. 44); and Liz Phair's "Somebody's Miracle" (Capitol, No. 46).

At nearly 11 million units, overall U.S. album sales were up 6% over the previous week, on par with the same week last year. Sales for 2005 lag behind 2004 by 10% at 426 million units.

  5. I have been drawing since I was a teen...but when it comes to computers and the graphic part...I am so lost!! The images on this thread are great and I envy those that can understand how to make cool art with a computer!

    :coolio:

  6. This is where Bruce shows he can write great lyrics and he has a band that can kick azz!! Rosalita, a wonderful love song...he tells what he is going through to get this girl. The lyrics of this album tell you about how life is along the Jersey Shore with such realism. Big Man Clarence on sax...wow...he is cookin' on this album. Kitty's Back, great rockin' tune. I bought Greetings from Asbury Park and liked it, but this album I loved. I liked the R&B feel to it also. And I never get tired of listening to 4th of July, Asbury Park. An album that my collection would be uncomplete without.

  7. Nine Inch Nails Settle On Drummer

    Trent Reznor

Nine Inch Nails seemed to have solved their ongoing drummer troubles, bringing Alex Carapetis on-board as the band's new touring drummer. NIN mastermind Trent Reznor confirmed the news on NIN.com over the weekend, after Carapetis made his debut at the band's Friday night concert in Chicago. MTV.com reports that Carapetis has a varied resume, having performed with everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Nikka Costa to a handful of Australian Pop acts.

Reznor writes online, "Alex is doing great and fitting in well. Josh Freese helped us out by playing the Salt Lake City and Denver shows as a substitute, while Alex Carapetis took over in Chicago. I can't begin to tell you what a difficult job it is to replace your drummer in this band, and these guys have truly risen to the high-pressure situation that it is."

The band teased fans over the weekend by posting a picture of them alongside Meg White of The White Stripes, before adding a new one of the lineup with Carapetis.

Regular NIN drummer Jerome Dillon had to leave the tour after being diagnosed with an unspecified heart condition.

  9. Oasis, Gorillaz Nab Two Q Awards

    By Juliana Koranteng, London

Oasis confirmed its influential status in the industry by clinching two of the top prizes at this year's Q Awards yesterday (Oct. 10) at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Oasis picked up not only best album for "Don't Believe the Truth" (Big Brother), but also the people's choice award.

Gorillaz (Parlophone), the virtual band co-founded by Damon Albarn, lead singer of Oasis' former chart competitor Blur, also won two awards: best video ("Feel Good Inc") and best producer (shared by Albarn and Danger Mouse for the album "Demon Days").

Coldplay, currently touted as Oasis' rival for chart dominance by the music press, walked away with the Aloud.com best act in the world today prize. But Chris Martin, Coldplay's lead singer, used the occasion to criticize the media for fueling the rivalry in the first place. "They make our lives a misery; we don't want to fight with anyone," he declared.

The ceremony also acknowledged the role of emerging acts by presenting James Blunt (Atlantic) with the Island Records best new act award, while KT Tunstall (Relentless/EMI) won the Napster best track prize for her single "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree."

Rock and pop veterans also held their own, with the Bee Gees accepting the lifetime achievement award. Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page nabbed the icon award, while the Kinks' Ray Davies collected the classic song prize for the 1960s hit "Waterloo Sunset."

The most emotional moment came when Yoko Ono received a standing ovation while collecting the special award on behalf of her husband, the late John Lennon. She moved the audience with her anecdote about the days when she found herself reassuring Lennon that he was as widely admired as his co-songwriter and Beatles colleague Paul McCartney. "I miss that," she added.

  10. DVD Chronicles Final Pink Floyd Tour

    By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

EMI has set a Dec. 5 U.K. release for the long-awaited DVD debut of the Pink Floyd concert film "Pulse." The project was originally released in 1995 in conjunction with a double-disc CD set of the same name. The film chronicles the band's 1994 tour in support of the album "The Division Bell," which turned out to be its last.

The DVD was taped during a 14-night run at London's Earl's Court and is highlighted by the first complete performance of the 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon," which can be found on the second disc. The first disc features a blend of older hits ("Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2," "Learning To Fly") and material from "The Division Bell" ("Keep Talking," "Take It Back").

Among the bonus features are the back-screen stage projections for such songs as "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "High Hopes" and the majority of the "Dark Side of the Moon" material, plus videos for "Learning To Fly" and "Take It Back."

Bonus performances of four "Division Bell" songs are included in the feature "Bootlegging the Bootleggers," while the documentary "Goodbye to Life As We Know It" offers previously unseen off-stage footage of Pink Floyd on the road.

In its original home video form, "Pulse" spent 176 weeks on Billboard's Top Music Video chart. The album version debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1.48 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

  11. An album that I have played many times with in the "moment" is Lisa Stansfields 1991 release REAL LOVE...most every song on there is sexy...love making music. My favs are...

    Symptoms Of Loneliness & Heartache

    All Women

    Soul Deep

    A Little More Love

    Make Love To Ya

    Tenderly

    I Will Be Waiting

Great album and she has a amazing voice!

  12. UncleJoe you are so speaking my language! It was a different time...and so many moments in history made and people did care for one another. That is something I truly miss...the honest caring for another person without a string attatched.

  13. I don't know why this has been on my mind so much latley, probably due to the fact we are doin a daily tribute to John Lennon until December 8th...anyway...would you change the era in which you were a teen-ager? I was one in the 70's and loved every minute...but I longed to be in the 60's. To be a teen then I would have loved it...I have always been outspoken and fought for the underdog so to speak and have a free spirit. I feel I missed out on a time where I think I would have fit in with no doubts. So tell me dear friends...would you want to change that time in your life??

  14. Does this bring back memories thinking of this album! I remember when my Mom bought if for me, I was so thrilled. I played it so much on my little record player. I still have the album but had to buy on CD to listen to everywhere. I was immediately taken with Smackwater Jack! Then I fell in love with Back Home, Way Over Yonder, Natural Woman...and the rest. I loved the hits but favored those the most. An album a true music lover must have in their collection! Great musicians on the album...James Taylor, Russ Kunkel, Joni Mitchell...just to name a few. I am so going home and putting this in my CD player...my baby girl needs to hear this album!!

  15. I went to a Steve Miller concert about 5 years ago and with hit roots being in blues with Boz Scaggs he got down with blues! And to make it even more awesome Gov't Mule opened for him and he had them come back on stage and jam out!! Glad I went to that concert for sure!!

  16. Never said I didn't want my smalltown life...I love it but people need to not be so judgemental. If it is something causing harm to someone then yes protest it, but someone's store, cafe, whatever it might be...check it out before you judge it, you may like what you find.

  17. No...and this really has me fired up as you can tell. My hometown has never acted like this, and all it takes is those people who believe they are better than everyone else to stir things up. Well wait until they mess with Sweet Jane!!
