  1. Sorry for the delay all - life interferes from time to time - went to the show - typical reggae concert - scheduled for a 7:00pm start and the first band (Inner Circle) didn't go on until 8:30. They were very good though a half hour set hardly does them justice. The second band was a dub group called "Particle" - I had never heard of them nor had most of the crowd apparently, they didn't go on until after 10:00 and were not well received - they were good at what they played, but four white guys playing instrumental reggae wasn't what we came for. Finally at about 11:30, Toots and the Maytals took the stage. They played an excellent high energy (no pun intended) show that the audience ate up. Toots himself looked a fraction of his 60 plus years and performed with an enthusiasm and professionalism that a lot of younger acts could learn from. He played all the "hits" - Pressure Drop, 54-46, Country Roads, Do the Reggay - that the crowd wanted and more. Overall it was a very good show, but I must be getting old because by the time I got home it was after 2:00am and I felt like scheisse the entire next day. Good thing it was a Friday night show.

  3. ....and the show was outstanding - sold out and packed in. Gotta love those GA shows (that's general admission for those of you wondering) my brother and I were front and center for all of SDs set. I go 6'2" 250 lbs and my brother is 6'3" 325 lbs - when we go out together most people just get out of the way. And so it was at the show last night, we ran the pit - old school style - no fists or fights, help kids up when they fall, help find misappropriated glasses and such. SD sounded great, played about an hour and forty five minutes, and rocked hard doing it. Similar set list to what is on the Live in Orange County DVD, all in all it was an excellent show. The openers were mixed - Street Dogs played first - the frontman was a founding member of Dropkick Murphys - Street Dogs play that style of Beantown punk and were very good. The second band, Backyard Babies from Stockholm Sweden must share a label or something, including the retarded moniker, they were pretty lame. What they did they did well, it just wasn't very good. Used that opportunity to hit the head, unfortunately, so did everyone else.

If you're a Social D fan and you get the chance, go see them. Mike Ness is in great form and seeing him live was well worth the late Sunday night.

  4. Rufus Wainwright is the son of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle (?) and has forged a name for himself as a talented but very eclectic artist. His style of music has evolved over the years from vaudevillian to a type of operatic performance on his most recent release. Not my type of music but here's to ya if you like him.

Let's go in the opposite direction:

    Clawhammer

  5. I have used winmx through the last 4 or 5 upgrades without any trouble at all. Since it is a P2P the availability of particular items is entirely dependent on who is online and sharing. I can't always get what I'm after, but you really have no right to complain, you aren't paying anything for it. Just be glad the RIAA doesn't go after more file sharers than they do. That any of these P2P communities exist is a blessing.

  6. taking a cue from Bowie were one of the original overtly androgynous rock bands - they acheived very little notoriety for their music, more for their style and attitude - "Personality Crisis" was a minor hit for them - they also spawned the freak we know and love (or detest) as Buster Poindexter (David Johansen) - countless hair metal bands emulated their look and sound in the mid-eighties.

Big Head Todd & the Monsters

  7. Like a VIRGIN Killers - Madonna & The Scorpions

Rock CANDY o - Montrose & The Cars

Soul MAN In The Moon - Sam and Dave & REM

And Justice for ALL I Wanna Do - Metallica & Sheryl Crow

The Number of The BEAST of Burden - Iron Maiden & The Stones

Werewolves in LONDON Calling - Warren Zevon & The Clash

Turn to STONE Blue - ELO & Foghat

  8. The big cities didn't make it because of the "per 1,000" clause. LOL...Philly safer than Tampa huh? Whoda thunk it?

How do you think I feel? I think Tampa is so crime-ridden is because 80% of the people here are from elsewhere - New York, Boston, Philly, etc etc. We've got the cream of the crop. Just kidding mostly. Tampa's got a good vibe for the most part. Just gotta know where not to go.

  9. Living After MIDNIGHT Rider - Judas Priest & The Allman Bros.

Look SHARP Dressed Man - Joe Jackson & ZZ Top

Head GAMES Without Frontiers - Foreigner & Peter Gabriel

Hurts So GOODnight Irene - John Mellencamp & Kingston Trio

Tie A Yellow RIBBON In The Sky - Tony Orlando & Stevie Wonder

Fox On The RUN Like Hell - Sweet & Pink Floyd

  10. Hollywood will always take their liberties when accuracy vs ticket sales are involved - overall I liked the movie - I thought Val Kilmer did an excellent job - Morrison is a very daunting figure to tackle and I think Kilmer was just understated enough and let the material carry the role. Of course, I am also a fan of most of Oliver Stone's movies so that helps too.

  11. Many of you may not be familiar with this band - Toots Hibbert is a legend in the reggae and ska community. He has been performing for over 40 years with his band, the Maytals. They are coming to Jannus Landing (my favorite venue as you may recall) March 11th. I am required by my instincts to attend. For those of you who's knowledge of reggae starts and stops with Bob Marley (there's nothing wrong with that by the way), seeing Toots & the Maytals live is like seeing the reggae equivalent of the Stones or Zep - they are that important and had that much influence on the development of the island rhythms - Toots Hibbert was performing traditional Jamaican music when Bob was in grade school. If you like reggae or ska or just having a good time seeing quality musicians, go see Toots & the Maytals if they come to your town. I'm psyched to see them. Can you tell?!
