  1. Here's this weeks lyrics. I'm posting these because of recent discussions in the "Concert" forum.

"Can't You See" - The Marshall Tucker Band

I'm gonna take a freight train

    Down at the station, Lord

I don't care where it goes

    Gonna climb me a mountain

    The highest mountain

    Gonna jump off

    Nobody gonna know

    Can't you see

    Whoa can't you see

    What that woman, Lord

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

    Can't you see

    What that woman

    She been doin' to me

    I'm gonna find me

    A hole in the wall

I'm gonna crawl inside and die

    'cause that lady now

    Mean ol' woman Lord

    Done told me goodbye

    Can't you see

    Whoa can't you see

    What that woman, Lord

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

    Can't you see

    What that woman

    She been doin' to me

I'm gonna buy me a ticket now

    As far as I can

    Ain't never comin' back

    Ride me a Southbound

All the way to Georgia now

'till the train run out of track

    Can't you see

    Whoa can't you see

    What that woman, Lord

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

    Can't you see

    What that woman

    She been doin' to me

    Oh Lord

    Can't you see

    Whoa can't you see

    What that woman, Lord

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

    Whoa can't you see

    What that woman

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

(Whoa she's such a crazy lady)

    Can't you see

    What that woman

    (What that woman)

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

    (Whoa I can't stand it)

    Can't you see

    What that woman

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

(I'm gonna take a freight train)

    Can't you see

    (Down at the station, Lord)

    What that woman

    (Ain't never comin' back)

    She been doin' to me

    Can't you see

    (Gonna ride me a southbound)

    Can't you see

(All the way to Georgia now)

    What that woman

('til the train run out of track)

  2. I think the era of "classic rock" died out in the early 80's when all the hair bands took over along with that goofy new wave sound. To me, classic rock may be older, but it's the pure form of rock 'n' roll music where the lyrics and the instrumentals actually meant something and sounded so beautiful together and weren't geared toward our MTV/pop culture. I've notice that there are many bands from the 90's that are getting back to this type of music playing. I think the majority of music from the 80's is a bit of a black hole.

  3. "The Marshall Tucker Band" album has a bunch of great songs on it. But if you just want a couple...

    "Can't You See"

    "Fly Like an Eagle"

    "Take the Highway"

    "Losing You"

"Heard it in a Love Song"

These are my favorites so far. But that's only because I'm still purchasing albums. Remember, Marshall Tucker Band is on the country-rock side of Southern Rock. But they are part of the "big three" which consist of The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Marshall Tucker Band. These are the 3 sides to Southern Rock, and man they have made some sweet a$$ music.

  6. I doubt the lyricist meant for his lyrics to be ironic, but they are. He's talking about all the horrors going on the US like drug dealing, raping, abusing, stuff like that. Those are terrible, terrible crimes, but if he really means what he says (about all his different forms of vengeance) then he is just as bad. Of course, if he is all talk, then I guess there is no problem there. But why is it that he thinks killing someone because of vengeance allright if killing someone for other reasons isn't? Once again though, I don't think the crimes he speaks of are condonable, I just don't think vengeance is the answer.

Oh, by the way, I think I am going to be starting another similar thread to this one. It will be different because while these threads are more general to all thoughts on lyrics, my threads will be more specific to deciphering confusing lyrics. It is not intended as a rival thread, only as a different spin on this topic.

I think it's more meant to be just talk, but the anger displayed in the words shows how horrified he is by the crimes that are being committed. I also think the anger is shown with how little society does to deal with these offenders. It's kind of "be nice or I'll kick your f----n' @$$" Something like that.

  7. "Simple Man" - The Charlie Daniels Band

    I ain't nothin' but a simple man

They call me a redneck I reckon that I am

    But there's things going on

That make me mad down to the core

I have to work like a dog to make ends meet

There's crooked politicians and crime in the street

And I'm madder'n hell and I ain't gonna take it no more

We tell our kids to just say no

Then some panty waist judge lets a drug dealer go

Slaps him on the wrist and then he turns him back out on the town

Now if I had my way with people sellin' dope

I'd take a big tall tree and a short piece of rope

I'd hang 'em up high and let 'em swing 'til the sun goes down

Well, you know what's wrong with the world today

People done gone and put their Bible's away

They're living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land

The good book says it so I know it's the truth

An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth

You better watch where you go and remember where you been

That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man

Now I'm the kinda man that'd not harm a mouse

But if I catch somebody breakin in my house

I've got a twelve guage shotgun waiting on the other side

So don't go pushing me against my will

I don't want to have to fight you but I dern sure will

So if you don't want trouble then you'd better just pass me on by

As far as I'm concerned there ain't no excuse

For the raping and the killing and the child abuse

And I've got a way to put an end to all that mess

Just take them rascals out in the swamp

Put 'em on their knees and tie 'em to a stump

Let the rattlers and the bugs and the alligators do the rest

You know what's wrong with the world today

People done gone and put their Bible's away

They're living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land

The Good Book says it so I know it's the truth

An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth

You better watch where you go and remember where you been

That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man

  9. Top 5 is so hard to put in order...

    1. Was I Right or Wrong - Lynyrd Skynyrd

    2. Can't You See - The Marshall Tucker Band

    3. Mr. Banker - Lynyrd Skynyrd

    4. Round Here - Counting Crows

    5. Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd

It's such a hard decision to only choose 5.

    And the winners are....

The Best of Wet Willie - Wet Willie

    Isola - Kent

    Irish Tour - Rory Gallagher

    O - Damien Rice

    Audioslave - Audioslave

    Wet Willie!

    Southern Rock or DIE!!!

    You guys ROCK!

  11. ****IMPORTANT****

A reminder to anyone that is interested in going to Moondance. April 15 is the last day for discounted tickets. From April 16, the price of tickets rises from $110 to $130 for a 4-day pass.

Also, camping is a 2-person minimum. You cannot reserve a camping spot for one person (that means you will have to pay $120 to camp regardless if there's 1 or 2 people). Although if you camp alone, there's always the possiblity of a *ahem* new "friend" showing up! ::

  12. I've always liked this song, but in the past couple years it's really had more meaning to me than before. To me, there's a story about a girl who's life is falling apart. I had a period in my life where I felt the same way. So I can really relate to what's being said. Such a wonderful song.
