  3. We all love your broken English Helena!

Rachel, you spent 10 years studying French? Damn, I spent 3 years studying Spanish and couldn't handle it anymore. Well, at least I have speaking American down to a science...! They call it "English" in school, but it's really not English at all. They should call it "American-English" because that's what they end up teaching.

  4. All right everyone, I need your help!! I'm trying to find a big concert even to go to this June for any weekend other than 17 - 19. Something in the Midwest or at least close enough for a Thursday drive to the festival and a Monday drive home (or possibly a Wednesday to Sunday). I'm looking for something outdoor that has camping and music all weekend long. My friend and I are planning a road trip!! Looking for all types of rock concerts, but nothing really heavy heavy metal. Classic rock, modern rock, hard rock, alternative, doesn't matter. Something rock related with lots of women and booze!! :: Oh yeah, and good music.

    :help:

  5. the people who listen to music backwards are the same people who try and do seances, who believe that if you dial 666 three times, your head will be chopped off, who believe that if you light two candles and leave them on your doorway the devil will visit you ... the things you learn in summerschool when you are a child

I tried that, and the only thing I got was an automated response telling me I didn't dial enough numbers... :P :: And then someone came and chopped my head off, and then the doctors sewed it back on, so then I tried it again just to see if it still works. But this time I ducked! :blah:

  6. What does "Quel est votre raison" mean?

I sounds to me like a classic case of a boy and a girl where the girl is heart broken because the boy does not apparently want to be with her anymore. I really like the story line and the word usage is wonderful. I like songs that aren't simple and plain, and this is definitely not simple and plain. But I still don't know what that line means.

  7. Anyone wanna contribute when I pass the hat in order to buy Karhul ANOTHER album ??!! :(

Kevin, I'll give him a copy of some of mine!

Oh my God guys, this is what Stairway To Heaven REALLY sounds like when it's played backwards... I swear...

  8. Last I heard, he was over at Bill's house down the street discussing the politics of the latest revolutions within Iraq. Upon finishing their discussion, they returned to the kitchen for a spot of tea, a couple of crumpets, and a big fat joint. After spending the next 15 minutes sharing this marvelous spliff between the two of them, they decided to take in a movie. At the movie theatre, they discussed what movie to go see and could not come to an agreement. Instead they walked down to David's house near the movie theatre for some more tea and to hit David's wonderfully shaped bong. Upon finishing everything David had stashed away, the three of them watched a Monty Python DVD and sip a little more tea. But this time they opted to spike the tea with bourbon.

    Shall I continue?

  9. This is about suicide isn't it. Very interesting the way you describe it. I do love the way you are hinting toward the subject matter without actually saying it. You may want to adjust the point where verses reside and the chorus starts though. But, I really like it and it really paints quite a picture.

  10. The first two verses go one way while the third verse seems to stear another direction. If this is the way you wanted it to sound, then I applaud what you wrote. If you were trying to stick with the same "theme", then either the beginning or the end is out of place.

At first I was thinking this would sound like a Tracy Champman song, but then the end sounds kind of like Pearl Jam. It's definitely one that makes you think and scratch your head.

  11. If this is supposed to sound like a letter written to a friend, then it's a great way to approach the subject and you've definitely made the point clear. But if it's supposed to be a poem, then it lacks structure and flow. Same thing if it's supposed to be a song. But like I said, if it's just a letter or just a thought, then it sounds great.

  12. It has an excellent start to it other than "my future's sown". I'm unsure of your usage of the word "sown" here. The flow is unique and I like how you keep it consistant through-out. It's harder to just read it, but if you "sing" it with a tune in the back of your head it's easier to really "hear" the song. I like it but for some reason this grouping doesn't sound quite right.

    Held within the eye-

within the eye of the seeker.

I feel the growing sun upon my soul,

    the glimmering light unlocks

    the first keyhole.

It could just be the way I'm reading it, but the structure within this verse seems a little out of place compared to the rest of the song.

  13. Obviously very heart-broken about the entire situation. The piece is very icy but filled with emotion. It's pretty good, but I've seen you write better.

This is the only line I found that really appears to be out of place and just doesn't sound right.

I have been sent for a loop

Other than that it sounds all right. Although the patterns change from verse to verse...

  14. hey, i didn't realize how widespread the popularity of southern rock is. thats awesome. yeah, a really good band with southern rock style is CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival), even though im pretty sure there from cali, kinda strange. anyway check them out.

in response to whoever said cream influenced southern rock, how exactly is that. cream is one of my favorite bands, and i cant quite see the connection.

The reason is because Southern Rock is ultimately said to be a combination of Blues Rock, Country, and Hard Rock. And Cream was "hypothetically" the first real blues rock band to bring that style of music to the mainstream world of music. A lot of bands have stated influence by Cream (and ultimately the Yardbirds as well). With the Allman Brothers Band, the influence by Cream is much more apparent.

As for Blues Traveler, I like them. And that's a good suggestion for another album to check.

  15. Mairi this is awesome. It really paints a picture of how someone starts their own little cult and how others seem to just follow in the footsteps oblivious to what's really going on. So original that I can't compare it to anything. Wonderful, well thought out, very descriptive, fantastic alliteration, very powerful...

  16. Kick ass...it could be like the movie "Rock Star"...except Aaron is much better looking than Marky Mark. ::

    Whoa! That's awesome.

Actually, I have been learning to play the guitar, but am not up to par with anyone that is in the music industry. Seeing as how I don't have a lot of time to practice and I only got a good guitar this past Christmas, the process has been slow. Although I must say that since getting the new guitar, the pace has picked up as this one is easier to play then the old one. I guess that's what happens when you compare a $400 acoustic (only $180 used) and one you got on eBay for $30. This summer when I get my bonus, I was thinking of buying an electric.

  17. Thank you Sammy. I already have Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Seger, and Bad Company albums. I also bought an album of the Drive-By Truckers and I really like it. They give Southern Rock a new flavor and really brings the love for Southern Rock into a generation that otherwise would know very little about it.

  18. the cure werent always pop you know, they were considered goth initially and nobody mainstream liked them because of that. then they turned pop.

anyway, its always good to experiment, some of it didnt work, some of it was cool...

That's a good point, but they did turn out some good songs when they changed face.

And Foxy, you are definitely right, but I do believe that bands nowadays have "perfected" the usage of the instruments that were being experimented with in the 80's. Maybe that was the problem, in the 80's they didn't quite have the methods down perfectly and the sound just wasn't quite right. Of course, the instruments they were using were heavily influenced by modern technology which only got better as the years went on. Making the instrument more refined and allowing it to fit in better with the music.
